Updated

I took two 10mg methadones about eight hours ago for the very first time. Am i okay to take some subutex without there being any serious side effect?

@james,

In order to avoid precipitated withdrawal, my findings suggest that it may be a good idea to wait at least 3-5 days or longer before using Subutex, depending on how fast you metabolize Methadone. According to nhtsa.gov, Methadone's half life is reported to be an estimated 60 hours, which means it's probably better to play it safe rather than take any risks within the first 24 hours.

But if you really need to use Subutex sooner, I'd encourage you to contact your doctor about getting a second opinion based on their own discretion from experience with other patients.

I hope this helps!

This is a year old thread, but in case it is viewed... James did not need to wait to take subtex after taking methadone. In a case where one was on methadone (or other opiates) then yes, he would need to wait. However, he states that he only took 10mg of methadone twice and had never taken it before. He would not go into any precipitated withdrawal, because after such a small amount used only once, he would not have gone into withdrawal anyway if he had stopped. Taking subutex/suboxone can make to go into withdrawals immediately, yes... but only if you would already go into them anyway; sub can't just create them out of thin air.

DO NOT take subutex without going into withdrawal first. Especially on that high of a methadone dose, taking sub right away Will cause precipitated withdrawal which is far worse than natural with drawl. As soon as you start feeling sick, diarrhea, sweating, dilated pupils, insomnia, anxiety, write it out for about 72 hours, then you can take Subutex. Unfortunately, with methadone, you have to be in full with drawl unlike other opioids were you only have to start the beginning‘s of the process. It’s hell, but just tell yourself one day at a time. 72 hours is an average. Some people metabolize it faster, some people metabolize it slower. I recommend you consult with the Doctor Who can prescribe some other meds to minimize some of the symptoms. Tramadol can be used to alleviate the diarrhea and nausea, and Xanax or Clonopin or Valium can be used to help with the insomnia and anxiety. Clonidine or to Zana Dea some people metabolize it faster, some people metabolize it slower. If at all possible, do this under a doctors supervision weather inpatient or outpatient. Otherwise you could be in for one of the worst experiences of your life, not to mention potentially life-threatening

I personally think Tramadol Is An Extremely Dangerous Drug. I watched someone have a seizure that had been on tramadol for years and I don't want to ever see that again was so scary. The gentleman that had the seizure absolutely didn't remember anything. The serotonin was way too high but he was not abusing it so I often wonder what happened.

Probably too late but don't do it. You could get precipitated withdrawals.
