Refill Too Early

Updated

I have been on norco since spring of 2013 after a car accident. I recently started seeing a pain management dr & he gave me a script for norco but my primary had filled my script on October 31st. However instead of putting every 4-6 hours as normal he put twice a day which I didn't even notice because as I said I've been taking them for a while ...technically I'm not due for my refill til the 15th but as we have had some cold fronts the last 2 weeks (I always hurt worse) I am out as of today. I'm allergic to naproxen & aspirin & ibuprofen doesn't help much but I don't know where to go to get my refill technically 4 days early. I know walgreens won't refill except for 2 days early. I have disc degeneration in my neck & back but I also have a disc bulge in my neck that is collecting water (I start inj's. on the first of december) ...it's been extremely painful as I said due to it turning colder & ive not taken more than 3 a day on a few days ..it doesn't make me feel "high" as I guess it does some people ... in fact, It doesn't even take the pain away anymore, just helps me manage it because I told them I didn't want anything stronger as I am a single parent with three kids but I don't want to get "flagged" as some ppl have said. And the fact that it is from my new dr ~ I've had the script since the 5th so it's not like I've been going around to pharmacies trying to get it filled but when I went last weekend to get it filled at Walgreens just so I would have it done they told me they could fill it only 2 days early & i felt embarassed cuz I'm not some "pill head" ...just as a single parent my days are very busy & i figured this way I'd just have it. Idk what to do. Anyone have a suggestion.

Hello, Blueye! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in so much pain.

Yes, this was changed to a schedule 2 medication at the beginning of October, so you're not going to be able to get it filled early, unless your doctor authorizes it due to a dosage change.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

I wish I had better advice for you, but I don't. Have you contact your doctor about it? They might be able to help.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

No. Other than I don't understand why they make ppl that use medications legitimately "pay the price" for those that abuse it lol ~ hopefully the injections they are going to start in December will help to where I won't have to be on amy meds :) ...thankx again!! Have a great weekend! :))

I have a suggestion. Count your meds, and when you run low cut the dose. You're worried about having nothing for a day or two. So you're in pain, but it sounds more mental than physical. Sounds like you got a new script, so you could up your dose and get the new script early and if you've been on 10mg hydro's for 2 years you ought to know the drill by now. Here's my suggestion, don't post stuff that so blatantly says "where can I get a few to hold me over" cause face it, you post this crap in any other forum people will not be as nice as I am. You know all the things to say, allergic to the otc meds so you can get the good stuff. You don't get a lift from 3 pills so you take more, and if they don't help, as you say. why take them? I'm no saint, but at least I know myself and don't whine if I run out before my next script.
And why would you even mention "paying the price" because people abuse meds??
You took too many! No one to blame but yourself, suck it up!

I live in Alaska. I have never tried to get any narcotics early as I know my insurance will not cover it. I never take more than prescribed because then I would not have enough (actually) I never get refills. I must see my pain management dr. every 28 days if I want/need a new script. As for generic klononpin- I have been taking these for over 4yrs. and never received an increase, but my pharmacy is very strict. I do get refills for these but never ever can get them earlier than 1 day. Thankfully, I've never abused these either for the same reason I don't take extra pain med, so I don't have a problem. It's just that with my insurance I cannot get anything early (not even blood pressure meds), so this just gives me the added hassle of having to go more often to the pharmacy because because I am on so many meds................My advice is always take as advised by your dr. or pay the price with not having enough............And this is no ones fault but your own. Hope this isn't too harsh, I don't think so. it's common sense if you think about it................ah, duh!

The easiest way to keep track of your meds is to get a 7 day pill holder. When you get your meds put the number of pills you can take for each day. This things are only a few dollars and have each day of the week marked. After you fill your weeks worth of meds put your pills some place different then your weeks worth. This way every time you take out any pills other then filling your weeks amount will mean you will be short at the end of the month.
