I took prestiq 50 mg for 2 in a half months. is was horrible. my friend had recommended it to me because is was working great for her. but she was on like 9 other phyc meds. after the first two weeks of taking prestiq i starting getting really really tired and i noticed myself sleeping all day til three when my kids got home. i was getting worse and worse every day. i lost interest in everything i mean EVERYTHING. I didnt even want to shower.go to the store somke a cigarette, NOTHIN!!!... then i had enough and I said screw this... I was so frieking depressed i didnt even feeling like googling the side effects if i would quit suddenly..go figure..then i just cold turkey quit..Holy s***...ive been sweating for five days really really bad.. bad bad headaches.. in bed day and night. a wierd feeling in my right side of the inside of my brain which as i write this continues to come and go...i have had the worst experience with the antidepressant prestiq.. it should be prescribed for patiants who want to die slowly cause that is exactlly what it made me feel like... STAY AWAY FROM PRESTIQ. trust im just like u out there fighting not to b depressed and i wouldnt post anything if it wasnt 100% true...this drug will destroy u.. i am still in withdrawl it's been 5 days...Good luck to those currently on it!
I took Cymbalta before, and it was terrible. As soon as I start taking it, I began having vivit nightmare that involves murder. I could not sleep fear of that and also have had experience of feeling like in the elevator going down fast (zaping sensation). I kept taking for about a week and had to come off of it.
I took Zoloft for 2 yrs with great results mentally, the weight gain is not acceptable to me so I weaned myself off ,every other day to every 3rd day etc. Since then I have been okay, mild symptoms but nothing I cannot deal with, just an occasional Xanex? My MD suggested Prestique for menopause and after reading all the bad reviews I will not even attempt it. Weight gain is an unfortunate side effect for all things that make you feel better mentally?
I took Zoloft prior to taking Prestiq. Zoloft did NOTHING for me and I feel I was on it longer than I should have been. I was told to switch to Prestiq. I HATE IT. It has just occurred to me that this drug is the reason for my ridiculous ANXIETY I have been having. With Zoloft the withdrawals happen after a few days (There were a couple times I was out of town and completely forgot to refill my prescription) but with Prestiq? If you forget ONE DAY? the eyes start to dart all over the place after only like a half a day. Then the nausea sets in. Now I'm finally realizing the edginess and anxiety (in my chest) is from this drug! Unfortunately I had to refill it again since I couldn't get into the doctor and I didn't want the withdrawals. Another wasted $55. I don't need a drug for depression, I need something to take the edge off, to keep me from biting peoples heads off, to keep me from hating my husband just because he brushes his teeth too loud! (no joke)
with reading all the comments above I am now very fearful of taking prestique. I have been on Clexa for years now but it does not help my OCD and have been told that the prestique will. The stress that I am under now has my OCD off the charts so I start the prestique tomorrow. Now, I am very unsure with all the negative comments about it.
i hated paxil with a passion...it mad me hate myself more and more..i would cry all the time...and tell myself how ugly and fat i was...now im on calexa...and i like the way it makes me feel...
I started Prestique 6 days ago and thus far it has been a nightmare. I have had unrelenting diarrhea, my eyes are so dialated I look like I'm stoned, confusion, blurred vision, EXTREME muscle weakness in my legs, mild tremors, and cannot sleep. I called Wyeth and they said all of the symptoms, with the exception of the muscle weakness, were expected. I'm stopping the drug. I cannot even imagine what the side effects will be in a month. I would/will not recommend this drug to anyone.
Has anyones MD ever told of the weight gain prior to taking and why is that not talked about before treatment?
I am thinking about switching from cymbalta to pristique. The best anti-depressant I have ever taken was Parnate an MAO inhibitor. I quit taking it because the side effects became a problem as I got older.I have never found another where I did not gain weight and I felt so wonderful. Has anyone tried Cymbalta and Prestique (not at the same time). If so, which did the best for you?
I would also like to know if anyone has tried Prestique after being on Zoloft. I had a lot of weight gain on Zoloft and my doctor changed me to Prestique today.
Anyone try Prestiq that had been on Zoloft. I want to find something else due to all the weight gain on Zoloft, but am afraid to try. Its been disastrous in the past trying newer antidepressants - I end up back on the Zoloft.
I took Pristique last summer. It was the worst time in my life. I caused severe anxiety and depression. I could not function. When I told my doctor about it he told me that was the only medicine I could take. I left him and am now on Paxil. What a huge difference. Pristique could be very dangerouse if given to the wrong person.
I have no desire for food, nor does a friend of mine on Prestiq. People pay money to lose weight and this has done it for me. I don't have an appetite. Sexually it slows things down, but at least I feel it compared to other depressants. I feel good, some nausea, insomnia, but that is worth feeling awesome! I have my life back. What works for me may NOT always work for someone else, but my friend and I like it.
have people anything to say about weight gain and prestique? I have gained a lot on lexapro & would love a weight neutral option.
I have been taking Prestique for about 3 months now. Has anyone ever felt more depressed on it. I feel very fatigued, not able to concentrate at my job, and could care less about everything that goes on in my life. I don't like how this makes me fee.
Michel,
Don't let others decide whats best for you. If prozac works-it works. It's not wrong to need medication. Please be proud of who you are as you are. You need to see a psychiatrist- you wouldn't hesitate to make the drive if it were another kind of health issue. GP's are not trained to treat mental illness. Good luck.
For 18 years I have been taking Prozac. Each time I have attempted to change, under the care of a physician, I've touched the bottom of depression again. During the last several years my dosage has been upped to 40 mg in the AM and 40 in the PM. I've suffered anxiety, expecially upon awakening in the morning. In the last 10 years I've been divorced from a man with passive-aggressive tendancies. I go to a well reputed psychologist, exercise and eat well. I regularly meditate and do daily journaling, etc. I'm now married to a good person. My psychologist, chiropractor and others have voiced a belief that I may well not need anti-depressants any longer. Over the last 4-6 weeks my GP has titrated the prozac down to 0 and initiated Pristique, 50 mg in the AM. Tis the season, I know, but I am currently having a melt down. I am a school administrator. I'm questioning decisions I've made (am obsessed with them), am grumpier with my spouse and finally yesterday just cried my heart out. It takes weeks to get into my GP, although I may call him. He said that if things didn't work out, I could always go back on the Prozac. My question is: I feel good about decreasing the need for so much prozac. Is going back to it the answer, or can I take more Pristique, or will it take more time (and can I afford it - will I be so wacky as to mess up my job, relationships etc. The closest good psychiatrist is miles away and, due to snow storms, it's impossible to get there right now. Will you please give me some guidance/input?
Pristiq, which contains the active ingredient Desvenlafaxine, is an antidepressant.
Some of the most common side effects include: nausea, drowsiness, sexual dysfunction and constipation.
