Hello, my name is turk. I was hit in the rear end in a car accident. The driver who hit me was drunk and had fallen asleep. I suffered a collapsed lung, rib cage broken in 29 places, broken shoulder, fractured every vertebrate in my back and neck, and after 18 months I still have 7 broken ribs that remain broke and a disc in my back that drs say will NEVER heal. So Dr.s had me on hydros, and switched me to OC extended release(horrible). I told my Dr. They did NOT kill my pain. He switched me to oxycodone, and they work just as good as the old ones....BUT,BUT,BUT, if your stuck with the new ones there is a way around them to get instant release....take a old pill bottle, put WARM water in it, place pill in it, leave.it alone ( still, not shaken) for 12 hours. Drink water, and hold on, INSTANT RELEASE....its called farming with what you got...I don't abuse either but I had to find away for relief, and this method WORKS....

I just started taking the op's and I only take them as directed (orally) and, theyre great. I haven't experienced any of the harsh side effects. I'm taking the 40's. although they are definitley not for breakthrough pain because I took it on a full stomach and it took almost 2 hours to finally work. No nausea, no heart palpitations, no severe stomach pain, no bloating, no severe headache, no heartburn, nothing so far. I mean my voice has gotten a little raspy but my pain has subsided. My only complaint is how long it takes to work, but I refuse to take anything on an empty stomach unless directed to do so.

I have been on oxycontin for 12 years. This new OP does 1/2 the job the real OC did! Before I could take my medication and I would be pain free for at least 12 hours. I take these OP's and if I'm lucky I get some pain relief for 4 -6 hours, and that is if I'm not having a bad pain day! Do they still make the old OC's?

This is a easy thing to fix just talk to your doctor and have him cut out the oc and increase the roxys!!! They are instant release when taken the correct way

I have had chronic back problems for years and have been prescribed oxycontin for about just as long. I have recently switched to the new OP's and find that they do not seem to be as effective. Just for the record I do not abuse them or anything I just find that I am taking more now with the OPs to get the same releif i got with the OC's

This IS AN OUTRAGE! I am a legitamate medical patient with ten fused vertibre. The new formula has given me so many severe side effects that I got fired from my job. The worst part is that they DO NOT WORK! I started experiencing withdrawl almost immediately, and yes I take them as perscribed! I understand they are trying to protect against abusers, but WHAT ABOUT THE GENUINE PATIENTS THAT DEPEND ON THIS MEDICATION TO FUNCTION THROUGHOUT THEIR EVERYDAY LIVES?!?!?!? As a legal and abiding patient of this medication, I cannot beleive what an injustice this is, and how it is legal for them to make such a drastic change to a medication which creates physical dependency is beyond me. IT MAKES ME SICK! I go to walgreens and was getting the ETHEX brand which was the old formulation, and it was the only thing preventing me from experiencing severe withdrawl, cramps, constipation, nausia, etc etc etc. However when I tried filling my script this month I was told that ETHEX is discontinuing the old formula and has re-formulated to the new OP type... which means severe illness!!! My only hope is that Apotex also makes the old formulation. Is this correct??? Someone needs to correct this injustice to the legitimate medical patient and fast!

I like everyone on this site has suffered from chronic, pounding pain and discomfort. I have been on oxy's since they came out. Once I took my 1st dose I knew there was a light at the end of the tunnel. After 10 years of not working I was able to gain employment.I was not able to do roofing, but I did get off my ass and out of my apt. My girlfriend was thrilled! Now after all this time of taking my meds properly, it was switch to OPs. I took them and within 2 days I knew something was different. Then I had blood in my stools from constipation and solid pills. I know it sounds gross, but its the truth. My point, please FDA and PURDUE think about us! The honest and true people that used your meds correctly. Don't punish eveyone.I will continue to take my meds until I see my Dr. next month, but Purdue do not think that everyone is a junkie and you can pass off this heartburn, constipating plcebo as the same medicine that you originally planned it

The New OP version of the oxycontin are not the same as the OC version. myself my mother and my friend take them for cronic pain My friend has had cancer and has an ostimy and he has been without medication for 2 weeks now dew to the new formulation he suffers from what they call Short Gut Syndrome since the ostimy and the new OP's come out whole and in tact even with the coating on the in his bag. and my mother and i have been not revieveing pain relief from the new OP's eaither.. I agree COMPLETELY with CALL PREDUE PHARM this new formulary from predue might help stop the epidemic but for the ones of us who HONESTLY need them the doctors are going to have to tripple our doses for even compairable pain relief. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE 1 888 726-7535, for the sake of all the millions suffering from this new formulary PLEASE CALL

I already wrote in about how poorly Oxycontin OP is working for me. I have been taking the Oxycontin OC for 6 years now, after going through a dozen other pain management meds. The Oxy OP does only about half the job of its previous formula, and I too find undissolved pills in my stool.
Purdue is trying to make themselves look good to the FDA at the expense of patients well being!
I did hear back from Purdue with a complaint form. After I spent two hours on the phone with Purdue, giving them all of the details, phone numbers to my pharmacy, my doctor, my case manager, and more... they sent me a form to fill out.
I am severely disabled, and the form asks me to do ALL of the legwork for them, as if I were the one who was being questioned. The letter asks that I go back to the pharmacy, and obtain the lot # of the pills , and to get the UUID of the product. The letter gave me other difficult tasks. This letter went further to state that in the event lot # or any other information is left out or incomplete, Purdue labs will consider the investigation closed , with no further contact.
Way to go Purdue. You have turned the tables on the disabled!
YOU are the one whose product is on trial here, and you already have all the phone numbers, names, and addresses. Why can't YOU contact the pharmacy and get the lot # instead of sending a paralyzed person back out to do YOUR job, before considering the investigation closed.
Purdue Labs is paying lip Service to make themselves appear to be in compliance. They have already shown that their proving to the FDA that they are working on the abuse problem is MUCH more important than the patients welfare.
Now they have shown that They are only making a token attempt at studying this issue... also just to make themselves look good in the eyes of the federal agency FDA.

First there are so many ways to get around the gel compound , let's start listening to the complaints and stop accusing everybody if being abusers.. I for 1 didn't write my script, my doctor did!! This new formula isn't working for the real pain sufferer, the abusers have found many ways to abuse op already!!! The pain patient is what's left to deal with this s***ty drug!! Life is strange and it sux when the addict is the one who dictates the daily struggle of a real pain sufferer!! Good luck to all of you and keep up the fight, for your rights which it seams we have less and less everyday!!!!

I agree, these op's do require a constant dose in your system, my only complaint is that sometimes I get a higher release amount and sometimes less. Sometimes I get so much I'm sick, vomiting, nodding, sometimes not enough and I'm hurting bad, now I can see a 5-10 mg op, as if too much or too little is released then no big deal but 40,60,80 mg then we have problems.. I can see huge law suits as major problems if an accident occurs or such... When too much is released.. I am thankful to have something to relieve the pain tho, op's better than nothing, just scared about the in consistent release of oxycodone!!

How very odd many of the forum posts are! Apotex only supplies AK and CND?? Well add MO to that. And what's with they don't work as quickly; take them earlier, they are NOT for PRN use nor for immediate relief. Fillers come and fillers go...this gel-type filler is bizarre, undoubtedly, but the problem with bizarre is??? Not tested? Simply not true. Try chewing/crushing /melting another extended relief drug. Let's use the non-narcotic Wellbutrin SR, for example...rather chewy, eh? No one's complaining about those are they?

The only reasoned and reasonable complaints I see so far: 1) someone with a compromised digestive tract...this could certainly be an issue. 2) dose consistency...now there's a problem that's had more drugs pulled than you can shake a stick at...like, um, Synthroid. Those kinds of complaints, with facts to back them up will undoubtedly be heard by doctors and the FDA (pssst, you can also complain to the CDC...those people will pull a drug quicker than the bat of an eye). However, *help...these aren't like my old ones*, isn't a cogent complaint; that's whining and NO one cares to entertain those issues. If you really believe those who receive prescription controlled meds by scoping out this type of forum and doing a wholesale sneak attack on Walgreens, you're probably among those who believe OTC Sudafed was being bought in boxes of 12-24 pills to supply meth cookers. Hysteria helps nothing.

I'm a chronic pain patient, fortunate enough to be prescribed low dose OxyContin. There have been plenty of 10-20mg tabs to last what? 3 years? Not bad!

Well, they ran out. The exception being Purdue still making it's OWN generic, which it has done since it's original and real patent expired. Patent infringement through manufacturing was court ordered to cease and desist, but the mean old bad guys were allowed to empty their stores of the drug until all stock was gone.

It's gone, poof, good-bye! If you have a legitimate problem with the new formula, talk to your doctor about it and no, *I don't like this* & *these make me sick* wouldn't be considered legitimate. The whole idea behind using strong narcotics with those of us living (as opposed to dying) with chronic pain is having a steady state of the drug in the blood stream, subsequently allowing us live a higher quality of life than without itl Be prepared for urinalysis and blood draws...proof is proof if you're complaining the drug is not consistently, pill to pill identical.

OTOH, be careful what you ask for...how about they pull ALL the drug, rather like the most recent Toyota and Tylenol debacles (bless their little hearts) then where will you be? BTW: if you *want* brand name, the doc writes oxycontin xx mg, Q4...dispense as written. If you want generics the doctor writes *either* oxycontin xxmg, Q4 ..brand exchange permissible OR oxycodone ER xxmg Q4...dispense as written. If your pharmacist has an issue with that it's between he/she and your doc. Good Luck and God Bless....
