Can certain over the counter medications or prescription medications cause a false positive for Methamphetamine in a blood test?

Good day!! I`m under medication for almost 8 months now with meds like glicazide tab 30mg, metformin tab 500mg, B complex tab 100mg, Vit C tab 500mg, Telmisartan tab 40mg, Diphenhydramine cap 500mg, Silymarime cap 900mg, Betahistine tab 16mg, and Allupurinol tab 300mg. Can these meds give false positive result? I was tested positive for meth at NBI (national bureau of investigation) and i`m about to lose my job, career, pention, retirement claims and almost everything i work for almost 17 yrs for short to be discharge in the military service without honor pls help badly needed thanks

How can people claim that only meth will test positive and everyone who does is a liar, when "meth" is made from all kinds of gross stuff like battery acid, and bizzare household things. So, if there are so many ways to make it, why do the medial and legal communities act like it's a one of a kind pure substance that all tests the same? That makes no sense. On one hand you are claiming that only meth tests positive for meth, then admit that the crap can be made with all sorts of ingredients. Sounds like a farce to me.

So just found that ranitadine tests positive for meth and I have chronic heartburn..please help me find an alternative for my heartburn ..gotta test I gotta take in a week soon..please help

I tested positive today for meth and propoxyphene (darvon) (which is off the market now) and negative for opioids. I take: ranitidine 150mg 2x/day, Mobic 7.5mg daily, Xanax 2mg nightly, Nucynta 50mg every 6hrs, metoprolol 25mg 2x/day, frequently take melatonin and benadryl at night for sleep. I used to take Adderall but that's been at least a year if not more. I don't even know where it is in my house. As for meth meth, never seen it in my life. I should be positive for opioid and it showed negative so the doctor thinks I'm doing something else with them. I told him absolutely not. They are what has relieved my horrible back pain. I certainly wouldn't NOT take them.

Thank you very much. This may be a bit personal, but I have a sister who uses Meth, but she also takes a lot of medication due to chronic pain and depression and arthritis. One of her arguments is that Meth always shows up in her blood tests. She does not realize that we as a family know that she uses the illegal drug. So, I did not know if the hospital does a more extensive blood test, to make sure if it is actually the street drug Meth or just a "false positive" I appreciate your help.

Zantac does. Same thing happened to me when I was pregnant and nurse tried treating me like a drug addict. Never touched it in my life.

That's a really good question actually; and I think it's awesome that you and your family are looking out for her in such a way.

I am aware that the quality of drug tests given in certain labs have a lot of accuracy issues. The most inaccurate are typically pre-employment drug tests, since they are generally cheap and less expensive than the one's used in doctor's offices, pain clinics, and hospitals.

In that regard, I would have more faith in a drug test from a hospital setting; since the accuracy of the results are sometimes dependent on peoples lives (literally). And that alone is a comforting aspect that you may not get if the test is taken elsewhere.

Great! This is why people get turned down right, left, forward and backward for jobs these days - if you take cold medicine or allergy medicine you'll fail the drug test. Great. And the more advanced college degrees you get, the more likely the job you apply for is going to do one of these el-cheapo drug tests. That makes it feel completely hopeless.

I'm wondering if the adhd medicine vyvanse would cause a false positive for meth? What about bath salts? Do "they" have a test for those now? And could it test positive for meth? They done a dip test, and it showed up positive for both meth & amphetamine. The courts sent it off and it came back as a false positive.

Try pepcid or otc prilosec even tagament i also tested positive for meth while taking zantac Walmart has all of the meds i mentioned for less than a dollar a bottle

Don't trip dude. There are a lot worse things prescribed by doctors. There is a huge campaign to make meth appear to be the most evil thing on earth, and all the people on here fall for it. It's a big money maker for the legal system, which is just a corrupt corporate entity of Freemasons, just like most of the rest of the authoritative clubs in this country. Judges get drunk s***faced regularly and fall asleep in f***ing bushes drooling on themselves, and demonize other people for doing a few lines and being wide awake. Didrex for sure tests positive for meth. the L and D methamphetamine. I don't do meth, and have taken the Didrex. I got my own blood and urine tests done on my own dime to see if in fact this was true, because someone I knew was in trouble with the law, and got a DUI for meth with Didrex in their system. That's all I can say for sure, because I have tested it myself. Anyone who claims this to be false is either a liar or an idiot.

I am a drug technician. I will tell you plain and simple, the drug screens(cups, dipsticks etc.) may have a false positive for methamphetamine from certain OTC medications, however, once sent to a lab with GC/MS it can tell the difference. Your prescriptions like Adderall & Vyvanse will test positive for amphetamines, not methamphetamines. Your Vicks vapor inhalers, may test positive for methamphetamines on drug screens with a low cut off level if it is used in mass quantities. These are the reasons to tell the person conducting your screen of EVERY medication, prescribed or OTC.

Because Sudafed Cold and Flu medication (especially Sudafed D, 12-hr), which you can without prescription, but you have to ask the Pharmacist for it at the desk, because they no longer keep it on the open shelves.... is used to MAKE Methamphetamine. You need to go to your Pharmacy and ask them for a print out of the medications you've had filled for the last 3-6 months, or longer if you like. Then take that paper from your pharmacy and show that you are taking that medication, which will automatically make you FAIL for Meth, even if you've never touched the stuff in your life. As for everyone with heartburn/acid reflux. I am a truck driver and get random ua's all the time. I have to make sure I'm always clean and even have to be careful with how much and when i drink. I have MASSIVE acid reflux and chronic heart burn. You can go to Wal-Mart and get an OTC pill called Omeprazole Magnesium. Take one (or 2 if it is chronic) every day before you eat in the morning and it will keep your heart burn and acid reflux away and still be able to piss clean. If you still piss dirty then you may as well fess up to the factthat you are using.

Over the counter zantac for heartburn aka ranitidine I know for a fact will cause you too test positive for meth and I'm sure there is more simple over the counter or prescription meds that will also cause you too test positive even though you have never touched the drug in your life an meth is the most common false positive what I would do if I was you is research everything you have taken and you should be able to figure out what's causing you too test positive that's what iv had too do I proved my innocence thru blood an hair not a trace of any drug came back the whole test was negative so that quickly debunked what they was trying to say I did zantac was my problem if ur taking that for heartburn then its more than likely ur problem too

I don't think one will shot up. Especially if two days go by. But what you can do to be sure is drink 3 glasses of water with 3 scoops of baking soda in each right before you test. It works for all amphetamines and meth. After the test you will have the runs, but that's a small price to pay. I know many people who are on Prop 36 in CA for meth, they do it daily, use the baking soda and test clean every time. don't really know why it works, it just works.

One of the other MD's in the group, who I had the opportunity to talk with later, asked me if I had been on an SSRI (i.e. Prozac or other selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor). He said that it the most common cause of false positives. He also said I should've been retested in 2 months.
