Type 1 Diabetic Needing Subutex
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I'm a sever type 1 diabetic and have been on and off suboxone close to four years. Everytime I'm on the suboxone my sugar wants to spike up on me and is pretty hard to get under control! I did some research and their is an artificial sweetner in it. You wouldn't think that would cause it but studies have shown it can!! Not to mention the headaches and horrible stomach problems! It also makes me feel like I'm in a fog when I'm taking it. I honestly would like to try the subutex but don't know of any drs. I'm from around Knoxville Tn if their is anyone around here that can help...plz!!

Amen! Don't let them bother you. It annoys me too though. Whenever I mention to someone that I am a T1D, I always preface it by saying "that's not the kind you get from eating too many candy bars!" Of course, that is not the case either for all Type 2 Diabetics. There's a cure & we're going to find it!

Are you a diabetic?? Telling a type 1 diabetic not to take their insulin is extremely dangerous and can cause DKA which is not nessecarily caused by high blood sugar but the lack of insulin.. please don’t give people this dangerous advice.

The fact that the one person even mentioned there is a cure for type 1 diabetes pisses me off. If there was something out there that would make my pancreas work again I think I would have like many T1d have already found it and used it. Don’t be dumb. And yes the subs have dramatically affected my A1C which is usually a 6 or 7 and now it’s 10.3.

Hi Deb. Do some research regarding the simple cure for diabetes. It's been under our nose all the time. If you've studied anything about physiology in humans this makes absolute sense. Keep a close eye on your blood sugar and starting very slowly add periods of fasting to your week in a slow but progressive way until you get blood sugar to manageable levels. Try to do this until you do not need to take insulin. Type 1 diabetes may need some exogenous insulin but use as little as needed to keep your blood sugar in a good range. I'm not a MD I only suggest from my experience and this is not a sanctioned way to control blood sugar because it doesn't involve paying drug companies anything monthly. Start a 4 hour fast once a week then 4 hours spread out twice a week, then 8 hours once a week. Eat normally avoiding sweets. Try to eat more proteins than carbohydrates. Eat as much low density fat as you like. Look at your blood sugar levels like a hawk during the fast; up to once an hour. particularly if you've taken insulin in the morning. Never do a short or long fast right after or even in the morning of a fast. if you've already taken your normal amount of daily insulin. you be your own judge with how this is working. because you and only you will have the best sense of how a fast, or insulin and timing of glucose checks uniquely effects you. Any time you feel dizzy or low urine output or really sick you may need to see your MD right away to make sure you aren't in an advanced ketoacidosis. There are urine and blood evaluation strips available to get a feel for that. But err on the side of going into the ER if you suspect ketoacidosis because untreated it can kill. A mild urine acidosis in normal during a fast. Have glucose available in instant form available if you take large doses of insulin and then decide to do a fast. You've got to be vigilant to be safe but the key is fitting fasting times into your daily or weekly routine. This stabilizes blood sugar because at these times the liver takes up circulating glucose and stores it for later to change into fat or to be used later to give glucose when you need it. There are many books available on this method I'd suggest checking out a couple of them because the method particularly for type 1 diabetes is highly individualized. Good luck.

A diabetic 1 friend who takes insuline has lost a lot of weight. He was a H addict and has been on subotex for over 2 years now. He asks whether the weight lost (which started when he began to take subotex) is caused by the combination insuline-subotex.

Hello, Jessica! How are you?

You could also try asking for a different form of the Suboxone, for instance, if you were taking the tablet, you could try asking them to prescribe the film. However, the same doctors that prescribe it can also prescribe Subutex.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Is there anything else I can help with?
