That's good. I was having problems for almost a year..stocked up on morphine and oxy and told the program to kiss my ass...There are too many stupid rules...When they tell you to roll over and play dead...you better or they will not dose you...I was on for 15 years.

Fortunately, you are now on the downhill slope (it won’t get any worse unless you take a higher dose of any opioid you've taken.) Methadone has a relatively long half life whereas Percocet (containing oxycodone) has a rather short one.

Re: Reek (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

Most excellent and accurate advice I've heard so far. I speak from 45 years experience with opiates and benzos.

Would you mind sharing what other long lasting pain medication you used to taper off of methadone please?

I've been coming down 1 mg a week from 9o. I got to 7mg and went back to 14mg. Now I'm now at 8mg and I'm so sick of being sick. With no energy. Before the methadone I was addicted to vicodines. I wish I would have known better then to let my doctor give me methadone. Any help would be greatly appreciated

PLEASE DO NOT FOLLOW THAT TITRATION SCHEDULE OR YOU WILL BE VERY SICK. That level of methadone should ideally be withdrawn over a period of many many months. Aggressive detox is worthless and will almost certainly lead to relapse or reintroduction of methadone. PLEASE LEAVE IT TO THE PROFESSIONALS TO SAFELY TAKE YOU DOWN. This is one of the most dangerous drugs on the planet to detoxify from. Best of luck.. Peace, Kenie

Agreed, methadone is an atypical opiate in that it also works as a mu opioid receptor agonist and partial antagonist, which is why you won't get that same rush from other opiates on methadone. methadone withdrawal carries with it a higher risk of seizures than basically all opiates, and is also lipid soluble which means it is stored in your fat cells and takes a while metabolize, accompanied by the fact it has a longer half life than most opiates, which is why it is preferred for serious chronic pain and opiate addiction maintenance. But given all these factors improper use makes it more dangerous and greatly increases the risk of accidental overdose. Plus the physical withdrawal lasts up to two weeks.

I read what U wrote and I have a very important matter that hope U can help me with.I have been on 150 of methadone for a while now.Ive been on methadone all together 5yrs. And started at 30 then gradually worked my way up to 150.well I went to a suboxone clinic because I was going to switch well when I got the script it had only been two days off the methadone before taking it.and it put me in full blown immediate percipatated withdraws. So I had to end U taking my methadone. Well it helped, but after two weeks they discharged me immediately all because they pulled my prescriptions from the pharmacy which was done without my permission anyway.well they said that just because I got the script that they were discharging me.I am scared and just wanted know if I take percocet around the clock will it.keep me from withdraws?

It will relieve some withdraws not all, because 130 mgs of methadone is a huge blocking dose. I also was asked to leave at 110 mgs. I thought oxytocin withdraws were bad, it was nothing compared to methadone withdraws, because it blocked me. it took a very high dangerous amount of percocet to help a little bit of my withdraws and only helped after 40 10 mgs percocet pills at one time and only lasted 1 to 2 hrs then I was in full withdraws again. I was taking around 100 pills a day and I still felt crappy, so 3 days of that landed me in the hospital where I went to rehab where they tried suboxine. It did nothing and made me so sick rehab asked me to leave. I payed for methadone until I got clinic to take me back. I've been back 4 years only let them raise my dose to 55 and now I do it the right way. I haven't failed a U/A since my return. I follow all the rules even though my back and hip pain has landed me in a wheelchair daily. I will not do nothing to mess up my program again. I never want that misery of withdraws again. So please do all you can to get back on methadone maintenance and not mess with taking deadly doses of percocet.

That's not true, I was on methadone and Valium for many years never had a problem, my doctor prescribed both, the pharmacy I use wouldn't have filled my scripts if it was going to hurt me. I never have abused my meds, maybe this person did. I am glad to be off of the methadone, it wasn't easy switching to another long acting pain medication, I did have some withdrawal until he got the dosage right and my pain back under control.

Benzodiazepines and methadone will kill you, it has killed 2 of my family members and numerous friends. You may get away with it once twice or a hundred times then one time you won't wake up. It's no joke. Xanax and methadone is what killed the ones I know but they're all bad together so pls listen don't do it trust me I've done it a hundred timed myself and I'm so lucky I'm still here.

I guess to answer your question in short, yes, taking any opiate will reduce the symptoms but if it's not in a controlled way you are just passing time. So if you have access to opiates you need to take the least dose possible that would keep you from being sick and then slowly taper down from there. It's a lot more complicated than that. But that is the basic idea. I don't know if she is still going through this but if anybody else is I can help with detailed instructions on how to do this and safely. There's a few other medications you need to take to keep the anxiety off of you and an anti-seizure medication. It sounds complicated but it is not a lot of medications that you see are multi use medications that are also used for anti-seizure so they may not be as hard to get as you think.

My advice is based solely on experience. It worked for me, that doesn't necessarily mean it will work for you. Some people cannot afford a new pain clinic, or the medicine, or being on a methadone clinic for years. Obviously the best solution would be to go to a detoxification center. That cost thousands of dollars and many lose jobs over it, since you have to be there for at least 30 days.

I meant to tell you klonopin are not that strong of a benzo but benzos and methadone will kill you. the worst one to take is valium and methadone. to show you how deadly they are a pharmacy close to me had a legal case put on them because they filled methadone and Valium and the individual took them in the store walking around in the store fell over dead. do not take benzos with methadone. you may get away with it once twice or maybe not at all. depends on the body. sure hope you take that serious!

No offense do nottake that advice that is way too aggressive you can die are you extremely sick please be careful what you listen to on formsto come off those doses safely and healthy it would take a very long time tapering your health is most important don't run around trying a bunch of other drugs to stop it you were going to create a bigger messif you have togo to a pain management clinictell them simply to wean you down professionallyif you have way of getting methadone you can reply to this and I will get the email and walk me through it but if you are not prepare to be patient I'm go through a long process don't waste your time some people are hard headed do not want to listen they want to listen to the buddy that is great a couple things off the internet that makes it sound easy fast is not and you get off of it and get off of it without even a quiver absolutely it's just a matter of a little time being patient and following very specific instructions sticking to the regiment a very strict manner you cannot deviate like I say I will get the email if you respond good luck

It will help, ever so slightly

Easiest way to withdrawal,

Taper methadone down every two weeks

I would start at 100
Take 100 for 2 weeks
Go to 80 for 2 weeks
Go to 60 for two weeks
40
35
Then at 35 or 30
Start taking it every other day

Stay off for 5 days, then switch to suboxone

Suboxone for 2 months until you take nothing

This way you won't suffer from the acute withdrawal syndrome for the next 3 months

I stopped cold turkey at 60 after being on it for years, I had no energy for 3 months
