I had gastric bypass in 2010 and am considered a rapid metabolizer for opiates. I have 5 herniated discs in my lower back and nerve disease and stay in constant pain. I have been to 9 pain management docs bc no one wants to take on my case and is scared to prescribed the amounts of medication I need to get through the day. I have tried physical therapy, injections and acupuncture all to no avail. I have a great doc now who is at least trying to help me and currently has me on dilaudid, soma, Lyrica, and suboxone patches most are three and six times daily. I have 5 children and that allows me to function daily with less pain than without. With the metabolizing issue I have no side effects or withdrawal symptoms when taken off, only with the soma I had to cut down to 1/2 of 350 mg 3 times a day because it made me sleepy. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to deal without being a drug guinea pig?

Pat you don't want "High Narcotics?". What type of low narcotics would you settle for?

We're all guine pigs ! Is your doc close to me ? I need to find one who will listen to me and not their own agenda! I don't want high narcotics . I want what fits ! I think my doc now is making the wrong calls.

Agreed. There's NOOO way your doctor would give you Suboxone AND any type of opiate. You would be immediately sick....like "want to eat a bullet" sick. PLUS...only specialized doctors can prescribe suboxone, and they would never give u opiates on top of that. On the other hand, the doctor giving u the opiates isn't legally allowed to give u suboxone. You need a suboxone, Subutex specialist for that

If it helps, my last reply to you about what Hydromorphone does was rewritten by the powers that be here? I hate that pending approval B.S.

Thank you and yes I metabolize them fast plus have the added absorption issues from Gastric bypass. I think I had withdrawals once and it was just chills and the crawly skin, only lasted one day. I feel terrible for those who have to go through them, I can't imagine how painful and miserable it is. After 5 years I'm just tired of being the tester for whatever kind of narcotic cocktail they come up with.

Omg you are beyond blessed not to go thru withdrawal. That's most of what we have to go through one or many times. Like now I'm detoxing off Oxycodon breakthrough meds, I hate all that crap, and my body just can't takerunning out, going thru wwithdrawal. I'm doing ok I know every home remedy for wirhdrawl and use it, in also on Fent 50mcg, so I'm glad because its helping. Some people go thru really bad withdrawals dispute the Fent patches. So do you just matabolise narcotics it that why you need such high doses, that's a complcated thing your going through. I'm sorry I can't help but I will keep you in prayer.
Best of Luck with your situation.

It doesn't have the same effect on me that most people do. It doesn't do any of that to me but it does dull the pain to about a 2 which I am thankful for. I've been on 150 mcg of fentanyl and it didn't do anything for the pain. As for addictive possibilities I don't nor do I have withdrawals, the suboxone I was told will block the pain receptors like the dilaudid and I believe it helps too.

It is very potent , very effective, very addictive, and also can zone you out. A lot of people IV dilaudid too. Used for Cancer patients. I was told Suboxone was for those not on heavy Opioids?

Why is it horrible? So far it's the only thing that seems to be helping.

Soma has a rebound effect and can be difficult to discontinue. I break them in half now. You should be fine although Hydromorphone is a horrible medicine made by Germany 100 years ago.
