Melissa, so sorry your friend is going through this! Can you elaborate on what kind of heart issue is she having? As well as burns? How did the doctor catch it? I'm much better two months after but still have sun allergies, heart palpitations, stomach issues :(

I know they were having issues keeping her heart rate high enough, it was real low. She had to have a defibrillator installed Friday. She had Stevens Johns syndrome from the Bactrim. It will make your body burn from the inside out, she had sinew skin damage and internal damage. She had to have cell therapy. She only been home for a day so I haven't been able to see her yet. And I don't think they really know the full extent and how long the damage may last. When I learn more I will update.

I have being going thru hell for the last three days. Horrible experience. Took bacterium for uti this was worst then the infection. Laid up for 3 days. I just want it to end, had one pill left and so not taking it wish I thought if this 2 days ago. I just want to be normal again.

How is your friend doing?

I am still having a reaction and now i am starting to think that perhaps i have a mild Steven Johnsons???? The reason is because I still have my gum bleeding and raw looking gums and it's been 3 months since I stopped the Bactri. Also, I still feel sunburned when i go to the sun but no one can see it but me. It's not red just feels sunburned and itchy. Also have ulcers in mouth and cough. I just don't understand why still 3months later. Please anyone out there experienced these symptoms?

Hello,I took bactrim April 20 then I started feeling sick on the 25.then high fever on 26 and rashes appeared on 27.decided to go to hosp. Rashes got worst everyday,my eyes have discharge,my mouth is painful too even my private part.that's when they told me it's the side effect of bactrim.I had Steven Johnson syndrome. I can't walk my feet are swollen.it was a terrible feeling.thought I will gonna be dead.been in the hosp for 9 days.still feeling weak when I got home.my potassium went down.my skin is so sensitive to heat can't go out and now I still have the scar all over my body.

I have had very sore muscles and joints starting about 2 weeks after stopping Bactrim. I didn't take the last 3 pills also because I was nauseated.

I took one dose and by nightfall I had chills, dizziness, unable to balance, diarrhea. This med was like taking poison. I stopped taking it after the initial dose. Day two, chills again and diarrhea, sore joints. Have been taking antihistamine and Tylenol. Hopefully I'll be better in a few days. All this from one pill!

That's what I took when I found out that I'm allergic to it (SULFA drugs). In my case, I got the swollen lips and throat closing. Very scary stuff. I was told that one more dose could have killed me.

If you're not allergic to SULFA drugs, though, I don't know what the side effects could be. I do know that there are other antibiotics to take, though, thankfully.

I just wanted to update on my friend....She had serious heart damage. She suffered 1st and second degree burns while on Bactrim. Was in the burn unit for over a week. The weeks later she has started to get lesions on her face, and having issues with hey legs. She may have to have a defibrillator installed permanently. She has a long way to go.

Started BACTRIM 2x a day for 30 days for a possible infection under the skin in my nose (2 years post-op for sinus surgery). 8 days in I developed a high fever (104.6) and swollen glands. On 3rd day went to urgent care and blood work was done and they said to keep taking the Bactrim. 3 days later they called to say my WBC and platelet counts were very low and to see my primary the next day. I stopped it on my own that day, 6 days into a high fever. Now a rash has developed with stinging in my arms legs and ears and I was delirious and couldn't function. Also a cough developed. My primary was convinced it was either LYME or MONO and did more evaluations. Meanwhile started me on Doxycycline to be safe. When the results came back the WBC and Platelets were still low but not as low as the first blood results 5 days earlier but everything else was negative. He told me to stop the Doxy and sent me to an Infectious Disease Dr. That took over a week to get in. I was now 19 days with a fever, cough, rashes, bad brain fog, stinging, swollen glands in my throat, neck and back of my head, and now I developed an infected salivary gland and a horrible welt like itchy pink rash all over my face. Over the next few weeks I had blood work, cultures, and saw a hematologist to rule out any blood cancer, and lymphoma, a cardiologist to rule out pericarditis, the ent for the salivary gland an allergist who thought it was either lupus or drug induced lupus. 6 weeks in I was put on z-Pack and ceftin because the cough turned into pneumonia and a methyl prednisone dose pack. Within 2 days my face cleared the cough got better and I felt like superman.. Until the last dose of steroids where I crashed and couldn't get out of bed again. Eventually I was sent to a rheumatologist about 9 weeks in (face rash was back and now my joints ached bad.) He said this does seem like a reaction from the Bactrim causing an auto immune response. He started me on 20mg of prednisone. Almost immediately the face rash cleared and my joints got about 60% better.. BUT, I had the energy of a race horse and couldn't sleep at all. Also now my hand and feet are bright red, burning hot and modeled. I can't even beat to wear flip flops, and my hands feel bruised under the skin and if I touch something cold it's excruciating. Also my anxiety and panic attacks increased. Come to find out my BP is now through the roof... (160/90- 145/105- 136/98) ... So we just decreased the prednisone to 15mg a day and I crashed again. Haven't gotten off the couch in days, heart races joint pain is returning, brain fog is bad, no memory (I have all this written down) my temp is back but low 99.5-100 and my hands and feet are BURNING!!! It's now been 13 weeks since this started and 12 weeks since stopping the Bactrim that I took for a total of 14 days. I haven't worked since June 1 as I am a hairdresser and couldn't make it through a day if I tried even worse I can't imagine wearing shoes.. Has anyone ever had anything like this happen to them? Do you have any advise for me?? Please if you can help me, I am desperate!!! Although the Drs are taking me seriously I'm not getting any better and it's frustrating! I am going for a brain MRI this week as the brain fog and lack of memory/attention span have scared me enough to go to a neurologist as well but he thinks it's going to be negative.. Again any advise would be greatly appreciated!

I'm dealing with the same thing right now. I had a rash growing on my right foot and the Dr. prescribed Bactrim to me. I thought nothing of it. I took the 10 day supply and went on my merry way. To me it seemed as if the first round had done the trick...nope. I toes were still swollen and then the Dr. put me on a 2nd round of Bactrim. I just finished up the last 10 days of Bactrim. This time the toe pain has not gone away. After much reading last night online it seems many have had this problem. I've been reading that people are taking OTC Benedryl Allergy to get rid of the pain issues. One foot is swollen (the site of Cellulitis) and the other appears normal and cool to the touch. Mind you I got what appeared to be Cellulitis twice in the same region of my foot. I'm going to say for now it appears like an allergic reaction. I will take my OTC Benedryl and if the swelling has not gone down by Saturday I will be going to my local walk-in clinic.

I was on Bactrim for a bacteria found in my lungs after a broncoscopy. I had a lot of side effects with this antibiotic. Watery eyes and very blurry, pin point red spots on body, itchy skin and dry patches. I managed. To. Get thru most of this with not too much discomfort. But, after about 3 days I started getting aches all over my body. Still I kept taking it. After about 9 days the pAin kept getting worse. Here I am 3 weeks after my 10 day dose and I can't get rid of the aches and pain in joints and muscles. I read somewhere in one of these ads that it could take months for this to go away. I certainly hope not. My right leg gets so weak, I have almost fallen several times.

I feel for you I have has a open hole on my back draining infection now for 12 mo I have gone to two different hospitals they can't figure it out I have a past history of getting infection in my hard ware 2 times but how on a regiment of 2 Bactrim a day which just keeps the wolfs off the door in times past I got so infected that I had seisures and had a pick line in this new doctor when I first wnt said the hardware had to come out yesterday it was a whole different story they just don't care when they Ck my blood count it is normal but also agree that the Bactrim causes false readings My back is swollen and throbbing all the time I just had 7 spinal surgeries

Any antibiotic can give you a severe reaction if you are allergic to it. Sounds like you are allergic to it. A doctor wouldn't know this if you never had it before or had that problem with it before. Again ANY antibiotic he prescribes has the POTENTIAL for horrible side effects. IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC OR SENSITIVE TO IT.

I'm not sure why you felt the need to state the obvious. This forum is for people who have had reactions to Bactrim, and how (IF they have) been able to recover. From my understanding you do not meet this criteria. Your comment is not helpful. The people on here are suffering and looking for relief. Not some smart a** remark.
Using my own common sense due to the plethora of severe reactions I now know know Bactrim causes, I will always advise people to avoid this medication, like the plague. After my reaction, and I was mentioning what had caused it, at least 90% of the general population I spoke to knew & had had a severe reaction to Bactrim. I believe this medicine does more harm than good and if the medical field was more willing to listen to their patients, this drug would be removed from the market.

I took my busy to the hospital today after being on Bactrim for three days. I really thought he was going to die. He had fever and and I was changing the sheets all night. Quite Bactrim coughing stopped and sweating.

I was prescribed Bactrim for an ear/sinus infection. I took it 7 out of the 10 days. Had to stop taking it because I felt like my head was going to explode. I went and bought Keifer drink for probiotics. Today I am feeling a little better. Had to call in sick because I was too dizzy to work. This drug is not safe and I really hope I can get passed this. I just want to feel normal again. One thing I'm grateful for is that it was me and not my kids on this drug. I will never take this medicine ever again and hope that they do take it off the market. My pulse got so low on the drug they hospitalized me for two days thinking it was my heart. Never did they think it was a side effect from Bactrim. I felt hopeless and thought I was gonna die. I hope to return to normal. Never again!!! Believe me.... I will protect my kids from taking this drug.

I took the last of my 10 day (twice a day) prescription of Bactrim for an infection last night. Today my body is covered in a rash. Got on the internet to see what if this could be related to the antibiotic and found tons of people having mild to severe reactions to this. Mine is apparently mild but now I can never take it again, as the reactions can get worse. I went to the pharmacy and showed him the rash. He recommended Benedryl. Some people have immediate reactions others like me have delayed reactions, no clue why. If you have any reaction that makes you feel ill, call your doctor right away. Glad to find lots of information so I didn't freak out, but from what I have come across, a lot of people have reactions to this, when previously never having any allergic reactions.

I also had a rash on my skin in my skin fold where my elbow is and on my hand. I felt real bad indigestion, terrible constipation (which I already have, but got worst) weak, fatigue, trouble breathing. Throat issues like it was closing up and doing weird. It was terrible, I just wanted my skin to clear but I'm so sensitive to everything. I took Benedryl and felt better afterwards that's how I knew.
