I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

No problems healing but i believe the quick onset of arthritis and a hammertoe are side effects

To Susan - Post #300 - I have seen ads for Prolia on HLN as recent as today -- so not all advertising has been pulled. It was because of reading all of the posts on this site that I decided not to take Prolia - and have told everyone I know. Wish I could do more -- my heart goes out to all who are now suffering because of this Drug

I'm in my 4th month after the 2nd shot and my skin looks like I'm 80 years old!! (I'm 63). I never in a million years thought my skin would look like this.Yes I did do alot of waterskiing in my youth and in the sun to much but the red scaly patches all over my arms legs and chest are discusting looking and they were not there before the stupid shot!!! Im force to wear long sleeve tops to cover them. And don't get me started about the itching!!! OMG is it ever going to end?? Does everyone know that this drug also treats prostrate problems as well?? that is what my Dr told me and why a urology dr gave me the shots! As far as advertisements out there, I just saw one the other day with the actress Blythe Danner raving about it!! Feel better my friends...Hopefully it will end soon....:( Pam

Wow, thanks for all the info. I was prescribed Boniva and BCBS wouldn't pay for the $100 pill once a month. So I was prescribed Fosomax. Hospital called to schedule me for Prolia?? I said I am supposed to do step therapy, first Fosomax, then Boniva then ..??? This does seem to be rather pushy. How much if my Insurance won't pay, I asked, "$2,500.00 for 6 months" and 10% if covered!! I don't want to take any of it. Exercise, sunshine, Vitamin D and Calcium... maybe that will work?

If you are smart you WILL NOT TAKE THE SHOT!!I finally found a Dermatologist who took me seriously about the way my skin looks and the un-ending itching. She put me on a steroid cream for a week and a cream to help with the dry scaley skin I've developed since the 2nd prolia shot. The itching is still bad but she said to avoid touching the skin as much as posible and don't use any wash cloths or loofas of any kind to bathe. She said most people over wash their bodies on a daily basis using the wrong sort of soaps and scrub way to much. Wallgreens is where I found the cream and I've used it for 2 days and the dry scaley patches look better already. It is called Vanicream and it feels so good on the body. The red patches are still there but I'm hoping after a week on the streroidal cream it will look better and the itching will finally stop. My other symptoms have gotten better and I know there are alot of you out there suffering alot more than me and I'm sorry about that. Good luck to all..... Pam

My doctor is recommending Prolia and is in the process of seeing if my insurance (Medicare) will pay for it. After reading these posts I am reluctant to take the shot. At least with pills you can stop the next day/week/month. But the thought of side effects for 6 months is just too much. Thanks for the posts.

I have taken 4 Prolia injections. After the second one, I started coming down with colds and other minor infections, which is rare for me. After the third injection, I began getting regular sores in my mouth which turned out to be herpes. After the fourth injection, the herpes became extensive and chronic so I have to be on constant antiviral medication. I developed my first ever kidney stone and got stubborn acne (at age 62), requiring more medication. Reading over this forum, I realize that I have other symptoms too. My doctor didn't warn me to think twice about taking Prolia if I'm prone to infections, and he was wishy-washy about whether my complaints were due to the drug. Consequently, I'm not going back to this MD and I'll never take Prolia or ANY long-term medication again. I'm only 3 months into my final dose. This forum has been very helpful. I'm sorry for everyone's sufferings - this shouldn't be allowed to happen.

I had a prolia infusion 4 days ago. The next day I began to feel very depressed followed by pain in my upper arms and a feeling of pressure in my upper back and chest and a fullness in my head. I have back problems anyway but this is different. Bad day yesterday, but a little better day. This is about my 4th infusion and I don't remember feeling like this after the other ones. I also started a dose-pack of steriods the day before the infusion. I wonder if that along with the prolia is causing this reaction.

On April 1,2013 I had my 3rd Prolia shot. I have been having great deal of pain in my shin bones,knees,thighs/groan and arms from day 1. I am using a walker to get around. I went to see my primary care Dr. and she felt these problems could be from the Prolia shots. She put a call into my rheumatoligist who did not seem to agree, so I went on line to see if anyone else had side effects and found that many of you did. I called the FDA Drug Evaluation and spoke to a women who told me that there was a warning of fracturers of which I have had a stress fracture of the right femer. This drug has a long life in the body. I would advise anyone with problems to call the FDA. I see my rheumatolgist in 2 weeks and am telling him I want NO more shots. Good Luck

I'm telling you all DO NOT TAKE THIS SHOT!!! I've posted several times myself about my side effects and most are similar to what I'm reading. I have finally stopped itching from head to toe, but the dry skin is horrible. I feel like a aligator trying to shed my skin, I have seen a dermatoloogist and she put me on a cream that finally stopped the itching but the vanicream she prescribed is not helping the dry skin. I have been having all of the symptoms since my last shot in Nov. of last year. bone pain, horrible crick in my neck if I turn head the wrong way, it almost pulls me to the floor with the pain. I can't move for several minutes until it releases. I have NEVER had this before. My feet which fractured on their own are still very painful and my energy level is very poor. ya da ya da the list goes on! I'm so sorry for all that are suffering like myself and when I spoke with the FDA the gal could have cared less!! It is going to take a dramatic occurance before they pull this drug off of the market, I'm sorry to say. Good luck everyone, I know my symptoms are not as horrible as most but still the ones I do have really put a crimp in my lifestyle as I'm sure all of yours as well. Be well my friends.....Pam

I had my first Prolia shot on Feb 15, 2013. My dexa scan showed a T-score of -3.5. My doctor recommended the Prolia as I was recovering from ACID reflux issues caused by using ALEVE for a shoulder injury. I was taking one Zantac daily and finally recovering from the Acid Reflux. My doctor had other patients using the Prolia without side effects. I read about stomach issues with Prolia but proceeded with the shot anyway. After the shot, I went through 2 days of headaches and within 8 days I had full fledged Acid Reflux. I am currently on 80mg of PPI to control the Acid Reflux. I have had some bone pain in wrists, ankles, and back. I am suffering from fatigue and periodically have the itchy skin. I have had hot flashes in the past which now have turned into excessive sweating. Also, I keep burning the roof of my mouth-- on "not so hot" foods and it seems to take a while to heal properly. My sister-in-law has always cautioned me about taking any kind of drugs. I also questioned my physical therapist about taking ALEVE for my shoulder injury .........and listened to how great it does for inflammation. The only problem was it cut up my stomach pretty bad. I feel I always learn the hard way about taking medication........I don't know how long it will take to shake all these side effects........I hope everyone dealing with similar symptoms.....the best of health and relief my suffering caused by this drug.

i had my first shot of prolia on March 12, 2013. within two weeks i was having extreme pain in back and extremities. the pain comes in waves. sometimes it is extreme and other times it is less extreme. gastrointestinal issues are almost constant. developed kidney stones in left kidney, no medical professional can confirm if this is related to the prolia or not. i will not be having another shot of prolia. i am only 49 years old, and while my osteoporosis score (-3.5) puts me at the 80 year old woman range for bone loss, after the prolia shot i now feel 80. i have never had this kind of pain in my life and i miss my job.

Just spent an hour reading all the messages. I had 2 Prolia shots. After the first one, no serious side effects, just annoying little things that cleared up. After the 2nd Prolia shot in October 2012, the pain started in my upper arms, hands and knees. I can deal with the pain while active but if I sit still or worse, try to sleep, my hands swell into claws and my upper arms feel like the tendons are contracting and I have severe pain trying to move my arms. Dr took lots of blood tests, says everything is fine and MAYBE the Prolia is to blame. Because my TScore went from -3.5 to -2.8 in one year he wants me to have the shot. NO WAY! Nothing I take reduces the pain and I am lucky that I don't have all the other problems that many have reported.

The more I read from all of you the more I can't believe this shot is still on the market. Everytime I see a commercial with Blythe Danner telling how it is a great way to fix a problem I want to throw up. Now that I have read about two more side effects, acid reflux and kidney stones I'm more convinced that this shot is horrible and needs to be stopped. I have had alot of indijestion and pain in my right kidney so I went to the Dr. and he did a ultra sound, I had a kidney stone in my right kidney and a hiatal hernia!! I passed the stone with a lot of pain and blood and am now on meds for the hernia, what more do they need to read before they take this shot off of the market???? the shot is timed released and that is why it takes a long time to get out of the system. My itching has stopped finally but the lethargy and joint pain and the awful crick I get in my neck is still there. Good luck to all of you.

Agree with your opinion & was interested in what you said about being time released so would take longer to get out of system. 15 months after first injection I am still fighting 2 of 4 side effects (cellulitis and UTI) and my cataracts have grown. And yet my internest thinks this has nothing to do with Prolia.

Sorry to hear that your own Dr. doens't have the sensitivity to your symptoms and won't even ck on this drug to see what we ALL are saying about it. Maybe he or she should read these testimonies on this wedbsite. Good luck and I hope you start feeling better soon....:)
