Oxycodone Imm Rel 5 Mg Tab/capsule (Top voted first)

Updated

I am prescribed to take 20 to 40 mgs of this med every 4-6 hours as needed.
My dr tried me on Oxycodone ASAP but with my arthritis meds my Rhuematologist prescribes my Dr put me on what I am on now. We also tried demerol and dulauda(MS) and felt no relief of pain so we settled on ehat I am on now.
Exactly what am I taking, a friend said it was Oxycotin. Whatever it is it just takes the edge off my chronic pain. There is a problem in Nebraska trying to get this med this month. many pharmacies said they could not get it.
I need to try another med but don't know what to ask for. I never took pain meds until 2 1/2 yrs ago when I got FM, DDD, Arthiritis etc.
I am in constant pain and need a med that will help me so I can have my life back and be a better mom to my 2 little kids.
What am I taking now and what should I try next for chronic pain. I gave up on this med and rarely take it due to it's inability to work.
In 2004 I had a baby and after 2 failed shots of morphine the hospital gave me a large red and organge or yellow pill. That worked to well. My Dr tried twice to get the info for the pill but the hospital lost the record of it. If I knew what it was he could give me a much less dose that would stop the pain and not give me the 'good feeling' which is VERY DANGEROUS!
Can anyone tell me what I am now taking and what the hospital gave me and/or what I need to take to replace my current med as it is ill effective and now off the shelves in Nebraska?
Thanks in Advance!!!
Kim

I am sorry, but just from the capsule colors, it is impossible to tell you what it is.

However, in the US, a prescription drug is required by law to have markings, so if it doesn't, it cannot contain Oxycodone.

I dont know what the hospital gave you. But the one your taking now is Oxycodone 5mg instant relief. They work well i think so anyways. I have crhones disease and arthritous it works good for me! But if you need something stronger i would ask him if you could take OxyContin. It's a much stronger drug that WILL take your pain away fast and for a longer period of time! I don't know if this helped but i hope it did!

Sounds as if what you took was some form of oxycodone, the way I understand oxy IR 5mg is that its percocet without anything mixed in it, just pure percocet and yes the IR means Instant Release. You can get a stronger dose, for instance my doctor has me on two capsules three times a day.
Please be careful if you start taking oxycontin, number one those babies are very exspensive and number two very, very, very addictive like you have never seen before, they say that a herion addict will quit herion to get oxycontin, stronger than need be, shouldnt be prescribed, to easy to get addicted.
About ten years ago my Dr prescribed me 60 ea 10 mg oxycontin, I had $97.00 in my pocket, that $97.00 got me about 22 ea and because of the class of narcotic, I was unable to get the rest of them, so the money saved me from a wicked addiction and thank God for that, no insurance and an addiction worse than herion......I know I ramble, just be careful with those oxycontin, better off with Lortab10mg for regular pain and oxy IR 5mg for break through pain, works good for me..................Good Luck.......!

Just from the description, and my own experience, I believe they gave you Ty-lox, which is Tylenol (Acetaminophen), and Oxycodone. Pretty much the same as a Percocet, I believe. Just my best guess, so don't take my word for it- find out more about it, and talk to your Dr about it.

OH... I forgot to mention that the Tylox they gave me was capsule shaped, and the colors were some type of coating on the capsule. Very close to the Tylenol instant release capsule you can get OTC, but with a larger size and circumference.

A few years ago (when he was 16), my youngest son was involved in a MVA. He was a front seat passenger in an older model mini van. His best friend was in the back (middle) seat and a young man (another friend) was driving. The driver veered off road, struck a tree killing the backseat passenger. My son was fortunate-he came out of the accident alive but with significant injuries. His right femur was SHATTERED, both hips broken, pelvic girldle broken, ribs broken and piercing a lung. He was trapped with the dashboard, windshield and tree on top of him. When he was finally disentombed his left leg had been forced llaterally into a right angle away from his torso. That was six years and many surgeries ago and he still cannot stand upright for more than 5 minutes at a time. The mental/emotional effect has been devastating. He has lived with unbelievable pain for 6 years and now has a physician with a pain management practice that has written 30mg of oxycodone IR and we cant get it filled anywhere. He has physical relief that close, and its still out of reach. When he was prescribed 10mg percocets there was no problem filling them-but they were woefully inefficive unless he took three or four at a time placing him at rick for hepatic injury from the second ingredient. All the dialogue has led up to these questions: 1) When was the power to treat their patients taken from the physicians and placed in the hands of pharmacists? 2) How can a pharmacist refuse to fill a prescription just because (insert a reason of your choice) 3) Is a MD whose primary specialty is something besides neurology (such as opthalmology) but who recieves specialized training in pain management-not trained well enough to write for pain mgmt meds? I had one Rph refuse the prescription because he looked the physician up on the NPI and discovered his background is in something other than neurology or orthopaedics. I am simply perplexed. How can I get mey son the physical relieve he is begging for? I didn't mention we went to one MD with a background in ortho who would have his assistant routinely give my son 6 steroid injections into his spine each month. They didn't help and had the potential for great harm (as I discovered later). But in order for my son to get his prescription for percocet he had to endure this procedure. We still dont know what the long term effects of that will be. Please, if anyone knows of a pharmacy that will fill this prescription in the Atlanta area, please pass that info on to me. Thank you for this forum and allowing this didactic abreaction.
