Opana Er Questions

Updated

I have degenerative disc disease and have taken opana ir and er for a while. My doctor has changed me to morphine since opana has left the market temporarily. I do not like the morphine. Could someone out there recommend something comparable to opana er 40 and ir 20

Re: Chronic Pain Patient (# 7) Expand Referenced Message

I'm having some relief from xtampsa it is by no means Opana ER but some relief is better than none. If the inhalers and iv'rs could be singled out the problem would be solved. Makes me anrgy. Used correctly Opana ER was a miracle answer to a horrible problem

I'm on my last script of Opana ER ...I've never abused or increased the amount I take for degenerative disk disease and bulging disks. I've taken Opana ER for probably over 10 years , since it first came out I think. Anyway I'm scared to death of withdrawals. I take 20mg pills....2 in the morning and 3 in the evening and have been stable for years. I don't know what to do...I'd love to be off all opiates , but they're not giving us time to wean off.

What replacement meds should I go to to keep me from withdrawal while I try to work off? I'm considering inpatient detox...but I'm scared of that too. I just don't understand why we have to lose our meds that have been working because some people are abusing....why punish those of us that depend on it legally.

I'm terrified.

It's very hard to even find a doc who treats chronic pain. I have arthritis in my spine, degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis and take MS Contin 3 times daily and hydrocodone 4 times daily. This only takes the edge off the pain, it doesn't stop it. I am afraid that, because of all the overdoses, my doc may decide to stop prescribing or the government may get involved and make these drugs illegal. I don't know what I would do if that happened. I guess that's why people go to illicit drugs and that's what is killing them.

The shortage was actually due to a stop in production because some Opana tabs ended up in other medication bottles being made at same time. They were caught by the pharmacists luckily. They used this time to rush the new formulation into production, which is why their are three different pills out there. They had to reformulate the reformulation...confusing...right!?! I have taken all three of them, and don't like the newest ones. They take too long to "kick in" and have an inconsistent release of the oxymorphone(active ingredient). I really want my pain doc to change me to something else. Does anyone haveb some suggestions of meds that are working well for you?
I would appreciate some feedback... Thanks!

Gosh... I couldn't agree more... The new Opana is far less effective and are making me sick... Had a intestinal blockage because of them, yet my pain Dr doesn't want to change me to something else... I'm having to get my gastrointerologist to call him and explain what they are doing to me. The plastic polomer gets dried out in the colon and causes blockages, plus they cant be very healthy either... I have lost 27 lbs in 3 months because of them! Either I need to change meds, or I am going to die!

You will see a consolidation effort and backlash from those denied their right to a pain free life without the need to resort to illicit drug use, and the government is making things more difficult to comply and less forgiving of error. Someone has to sell Afghan Opium, may it may as well be them for the way things are going.

agree totaly,it is awful what is going on to us that are in severe pain because of those that abuse these meds. we should not have to suffer something needs to be done, prescribe weekly and do urines and pill counts who cares if you are useing them correctly as i do....now i am suffering over other peoples addictions and abuse!!!!!

They did the same thing with oxycontin which made it less effective. CBS News reports an increase in heroin use since the pain meds have been altered. There is an irresponsible shortage of pain medication in Florida and those addicted to them due to chronic pain must just deal with it?! I smell a rat. There is no excuse for a large amount of legitimate users to suffer because someone overdoses. We need less laws protecting idiots who chose to abuse and more laws to protect patients rights to live a functional rewarding life where they can contribute to society.

The opana er with the new plastic coating does not work as it once did. It is very hard to digest. Why is so much plastic coating necessary...I am not an abuser but I can not take the new opana er. What can I take that is similar in strength to the opana er 40. All that plastic is awful. It can not be digested.

Opana is actually back on the market, though still in limited quantities in some areas, so you may want to have your doctor's office check with your local pharmacies to see who has it in stock, so you can go back to it.

It was actually just a temporary shortage, while they were reformulating the tablets to help prevent abuse.

Are there any other questions or comments?
