How Long After You Stop Suboxone Do You Have Withdrawal Symptoms? (Page 18)

Updated

My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't 14 days long enough for the Suboxone to be completely out of your system and for withdrawal symptoms to have come and gone??? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

I was terrified...he said the suboxone or me...so after 2 yrs at 12-16 mgs a day I quit cold turkey. He was supportive at first then got angry cause like you I had NO ENERGY!! I felt like I had a 500lb weight on my back. Plus the no sleep killed me. I took every over the counter meds to just get a little sleep. Immodium helped me the best. I took 8 at a time. some addicts never beat there addiction. a lot of times they commit suicide as they finally except who they became. it is addiction and leads to prison suicide poverty poor hygiene low life garbage. most addicts just keep putting that junk in there system daily. withdrawal sucks however. if you want a better life withdrawal is worth it and teaches the user a valuable lessen too never forget. but withdrawal will get better. you can be drug free. or you can die by continuing putting that poison in your system. I was an addict until I took my life back. it was hell but I did it. I found it better than putting a glock 9mm to my head and pulling the trigger. drugs will never end until you end it and grow some balls and grab hold hard and suffer the withdrawals, don't be a coward you can take back control of your life people. I was in my bed for 3 weeks watching TV poor hygiene no energy cravings restless legs no sleep. but it was worth it in the end. what ever it takes due it. no body likes to feel this way but it is called getting a hold of your life. 3 weeks later I gained my real life back and showered shut off the TV had a good breakfast and moved on. the war was over I beat it I blew the damn drugs away unloaded the magazine, a form of speech with the gun. you people can get your life back. withdrawal is a punishment for using drugs. like going to prison if you break the law. every choice we make in life has a consequence. so make the right choice. most addicts really don't want to get better its that simple. as we know if a person wants something bad enough they go get it nothing will stop them. so don't let drugs stop you.

Do you feel like it's getting better or worse? If it's better than the 6 days that have past, then you may be lucky and will keep feeling a bit better every day, but if the past 6 days have seemed easier as it takes so long to clear your system, then it could get a little worse before it gets better. If your sleeping at all ,be thankful and if you haven't already tried amodium, it helps a lot! Good luck and keep posting.

Unfortunately it takes quite a while. When I stopped, I jumped at 2mgs after 3 years and I went through about 2 weeks of intense withdrawal before the worst of the physical WDs started to subside. Tomorrow will be day 60 clean for me and I'm STILL dealing with lingering symptoms. Mainly no energy and cravings, but I'm finally sleeping and eating normally and can make it through each day like a normal person except for the mental battle going on in my head, but it is soooo worth it! It does get better. Just be patient and remember why you're doing this. Keep us posted and good luck!

I was on H and suboxone binge for the last 2 months I'd take H 3-8 bags for 2-3 days then hold off for 24 hours and take an 8mg suboxone pill to taper (just one dose that would last for 5-7 days. This last week though I needed more suboxone to feel comfortable and did an 8mg, 8mg, 4mg dose and then stopped cold turkey. I had been clean for 5 months and the last year and half with 2 very short relapses. Anyway the first 5 days i felt fine a little fatigued at times, then day 6 I started to get really depressed (like suicidally) in the afternoon and then fell asleep normally but started RLS and kicking around 5am watched tv for 2 hours then napped for one more (So i ended up with a full 8 hours) but then Day 7 I had mild chills and then late afternoon again i felt super depressed and thought I couldn't make it. I had the option then with my doctor of doing a small taper like 1mg, 0.5, 0.5 type of thing or just clonidine and some compazine for nausea. Oh also I haven't eaten anything since day 6 or 7 which is depressing since day 6 was thanksgiving. I opted so far to take just the clonidine and I slept like 3 hours, had super RLS w/hot cold flashes that the clonidine helps with initially but wears off. I was just wondering what people thought if the suboxone taper at this point would help, or if I should just keep working through because I'm already 7 days out.

Hi , how are you feeling? I just have a little bit of advice that I'm basing on my own experience. As you can see a Suboxone taper of any kind including cold turkey the symptoms progress and then linger so keeping that in mind, because your almost 8 days in to this it's probably your best bet to stay on that path and see if you begin to feel better as each day goes by. However if your deppression continues to reach the level of suicidal, then I would certainly see your doctor as it seems he or she is being supportive. I know that a lot of the mood swings and things like sweats and chills can come and go for just over a month. I myself chose to use suboxone to get off of pain meds, the way some doctors say it's intended to be used, which was a 6 day taper, starting with 8 mg and going down 2 mg each day so day 1=8 day 2=6 day 3=4 day4=2 and then day 5 1mg day 6 the last mg and then done. It worked very well for me but that nasty mood and brain fog and low energy lingered about a week. That being said, if you decide to do the quick taper it may be more comfortable but in the long run you will just be prolonging the residual symptoms, so if you do decide to do it, I highly recommend that you do not go very high on your starting dose of the suboxone. The lowest mg that makes you feel comfortable is good and some have success only taking it every other day as another way to wean down. Good luck and keep posting and let me know how it's going.

Congratulations this is huge that you are ready to quit!! I would keep going down the road ur on here's why....the withdrawals will start all over again! ( at least they did for me),it is a hard and long road but worth it. The ddepression got sooo severe for me they wanted to put me on antidepressants and that was after 6 months of being clean. I'm not saying that is the case with everyone but it was for me....so not wanting to take pills again started taking kratom...it us a plant herb in the coffee family. It has helped me beyond what I can say!! People use it to stop wds from opiates and h! Please know I ONLY recommend when people have suicidal depression! ! It can be addictive because of how well it makes you feel...for me the years of drug use have screwed up my brain and it's this or pharmaceutical and I'm done with that road!! Stay strong Google kratom for yourself I know it would help!

I was on the subs for a few years. The last yr I've been on only 1mg. I ended up having a huge kidney stone and was put back on Norco because I was in so much pain. I was on them for 2 months and realized it was becoming a huge problem again after I got the stone removed. The cravings were very intense. I went back to the Dr and was put back on 2mg subs a day for two weeks. I'm now hitting day 14. For the most part I have felt fine very tired, bunch of flem in back of throat on occasion, and the restless leg some cravings but all very mild compared to what I feared. However I've started having to use the bathroom a lot lately last 5 days or so now today I'm getting some stomach pains usually start in afternoon running nose sneezing and headaches also have had some dizziness from the start very mild. Am I just now after 14 days experiencing withdrawal symptoms or something else? I have been recently exposed to the flu. Was running a low grade fever that seems to be gone now. I no longer have any cravings for the most part. Just very confused that why after two wks being clean that I'd start withdrawing with only being back on the sub two wks? I get the whole half life thing. Dr gave me something for the restless leg that helps and 10mg of valium that I only take a half at bedtime to help sleep better but haven't had to much problems sleeping no chills sweats nauesa depression anxiety nothing like that. Can someone tell me what could possibly be going on???

Hello Amanda, how are you doing? It could be either the flu or virus, or delayed withdrawal creeping up. The fact that you're 14 days in is a great sign though! At this point I wouldn't worry too much about the withdrawal. If it hasn't hit you like a truck yet, likely it won't. I quit subs back in September and for me day 3-10 were absolute hell but then I felt alot better after day 10 for a few days and I thought I was out of the woods and then it came back at day 13 or 14 for a few days, then went away then came back and it did this for nearly 6 weeks before the on again off again withdrawals started to go away all together. Even after that I struggled with lack of energy and stomach issues for another several weeks. I'm just now at almost 90 days beginning to really recover. Suboxone is a tricky medication that affects many people differently especially in withdrawal time lines and intensity. I will say from my experience, if it is a delayed/lingering withdrawal it probably won't last long and it will be mild compared to most. Even though youre having stomach issues, eating is VERY important in the withdrawal process and will help immensely. I found it easier to do if I stuck to comfort foods and soup. I would force myself to just drink broth if I had to. It will help repair your body more quickly as will sleep and exercise. If you have any questions please feel free to ask and ill help any way I can. Keep in mind, 14 days is a HUGE accomplishment and be proud of yourself. Just stick with it and it does get better and it is soooo worth it.

Congratulations on 90 days. That's amazing. I woke up this morning feeling pretty good until early afternoon and I started to feel like I've been hit by a truck. So I went to Dr. The rapid test came back neg but she believes since I've been exposed to the flu already and I'm showing all the signs for the flu that I got the flu. Yay me right lol. I definitely have to say that I was so terrified of the withdrawals I'd experience that I stayed on it much longer than I should have. Every thing I've read from people who has gone through it scared me even more. I know a lot of people think this drug is awful and so are the withdrawals but when properly given I think it could be very effective without the horrible withdrawals. Yes you'll still have them but very mild. I just kept telling myself from day 1 that I would not be sick and that's worked for me. Thank you so much for calming my fear that it was all going to start to hit me now after so long. No one else I read about had been on a real low dose and switched back from what they originally took back to sub for a very short period. So I had no clue what to expect or think.

Split the sub pill up into at least 1/4s and try to make it last at least 2 days. I know it doesn't sound like a lot but 1/4 sub is actually a pretty strong dose. Comparable to 40-50mgs of oxy. And in the mean time order some kratom. Most online companies will over night it to you. It's been a life saver for a lot of people in your shoes and it may even help you get off pills altogether. Also, keep in mind, subs have a long half life so you shouldn't start withdrawing until a day or 2 after your last dose so you have some time. Good luck. I hope things work out for you.

I have sneezed so hard for 2 days after my last piece. Wth is that? I only took 2 mg a day for a year. I hope to not go into severe withdrawals.
