Chris, a new dr won't want to start you out on those meds. If you stick with a dr and don't ask for a particular med, they will help you. They may or may not eventually prescribe you what you've been taking. But you won't ever know unless you give them a chance. Be sure and take copies of your medical records from your previous dr so they will have medical proof that you have conditions that may be painful.

Mary, I wanted to let you know I saw your post and applaud your decision to take control and not become another casualty of war. I too live in chronic pain. It started in 1997 and it have to continually remind myself the only thing in my control is my attitude.

Annie, there is no way of knowing what a dr will prescribe you. Even if they prescribe Methadone for another patient, that doesn't mean that they will also prescribe it to you. The only thing you can do is start seeing a pain dr and be sure and take a copy of your medical records from your last pain dr. Do not ask for Methadone or any other med by name because it is a red flag. Each dr has their own way of prescribing for their patients and especially new patients. It may take a few months or longer for you to know if a dr will prescribe you Methadone.

zincie, it is against the law for a dr to prescribe narcotic pain meds for a patient that they don't have an established dr patient relationship with. In other words, no, there are no drs who can prescribe narcotic pain meds online, unless they are your regular dr and you have been seeing them.

Anyone who is having problems finding a dr to treat their pain needs to get a copy of theri medical records and read them. Drs write things in patients medical records that they don't always tell them.

I have a loved one that lives in North Mississippi.
Has Spinal Arthritis and can't even stand up without meds.
He's trying to work, and the Dr. he sees in Mississippi gives him the run-around.
Where in Tennessee is your Dr.? I live in Nashville and he's willing to seek treatment up here.

I wonder...*laughs* Pain control is being taken from our hands, both from people that are taking the drugs and selling them, and from doctors who can't read pain signals right (or hospitals) and interpret the need as an addiction, or a drug-seeking maneuver. I had a doctor who would not treat me, sent me to pain management, who basically said that "narcotics are not indicated for fibromyalgia", as if that could correct the whole situation. I asked for another doctor (the other was just a physician's assistant...No, I don't put down PA's...but in this case, I think she was wallowing over her head), and in our first meeting, the new doctor told me that when she met with the former one, she was informed that I was a drug seeker, and that she would not be giving me narcotics (this was at a time where my pain was a little more than tramadol could handle, when I could still take a fairly low dose of hydrocodone). Thank goodness the new doctor believed in me, and taking it under her responsibility, had me sign a pain contract, and has helped me with pain meds since. But because of that "label"...because afraid if I make a slight wrong move, that I will be re-labeled, and denied...I have not gone to the ER in times of need many times (partly because I was under the mistaken notion that they would not give you ANYTHING...I have found since that there are some things they can help, but even their hands are tied).

I am in pain 24/7. I am in danger of losing my house and my bf, because that pain had won the battle for a long time, making me practically housebound and sometimes bedbound. I allowed the pain to make me think I am useless, that I am unable to take care of needs. I have allowed it to color my thinking about a job, thinking that I would not be able to find a job that can allow for my disabilities, and limit the ones I can take (i.e. I can't just go to McD's to get a job, as I cannot stand for long periods of time).

But...it's only the battle. Not the war. Every war has a turning point...and I think I have reached mine. Due to a lot of other circumstances, I think I am rebuilding a support structure under me, by reaching out to friends that I had isolated from when I moved from one state to another...Granted, thinking about making up your mind to change only 2 days before, re-connecting with people, and *thinking* about trying to make more friends than the whole 2 that you have in a city that you have lived in for 5 years, *thinking* about going out and finding some activities that you might be able to participate, and *thinking* about picking up some of the hobbies again that you have thousands of dollars sunk into, but are just sitting on a bookshelf...that's not a lot. But, every journey starts with one step...even if it's a baby one.

No one is forcing dr to stop treating patients with chronic pain. If you were arrested for trespassing at a local hospital it seems like your attitude is one of the main reasons you can't find care.

Get copies of your medical records and read what your drs have written in them about your attitude. Also look for what they say about not prescribing your pain meds. When there is a patient who causes so much trouble that they end up getting arrested, no dr wants them as a patient. And I can't blame them. They have to protect their license and their other patients. Drs offices also talk to each other and if a patient is this difficult, the drs in your area know your name and they won't see you.

If you have needed medical treatment, the hospital either wouldn't have had you arrested or would have treated you first.
