Oh my goodness!! Family and friends and what our pain does to our life with them!! You sure hit on some deep subjects. I have 3 friends left. I don't see them much, mostly phone to stay in touch. I see my disabled friend more than anyone and we sometimes go months with not seeing just phone.
My poor family. Especially my poor husband. I have disappointed my children and grandchildren, my husband, my friends. As I couldn't go on with that sort of burden, I talked to everyone separately and explained that they have to work with me in planning, so that I can participate. The days of the "pick up and go" are gone for me. 3 families of children and grandchildren are now living out of town. When they come for vacation it's go, go and go. Which I can't do. It's taken lots of reminding people, but the last several vacations have gone well. They have to help by planning the activities that I can do, with a day in between. Do the things "I can't" on a day between the "I can" so that I get rest between. I had to do lots of work on me too, with accepting that "I can't", and taking the needed break from everyone by taking my nap.
The hardest adjustments have been with my husband, who was used to years of me working and doing the house too. His life has changed along with mine. I can't even manage the house now, so he's had to accept things not being as clean or as organized.
The biggest thing is that you can not give up. You have to find ways to accomplish what you want, with less physical and mental effort. Everything that you find an easier way of doing, gives you energy left to do an additional thing.

Karen,
I fought the battle with all sorts of diets, even the pay huge money you don't have diets, and wasn't successful. There are also the "diet doctors", which I don't encourage anyone to use. Many of the designer diet drugs that are used by the diet doctors cause much more harm. You have some immediate weight loss, but pay a huge price for that. Several doctors have explained to me, that the weight loss drugs cause a chemical change in the brain, with no one knowing what happens in the long term, and more immediately, when you stop using those drugs they cause larger weight gains than you thought possible. My daughter-in-law has used a diet doctor, her aunt also, and as soon as the drugs are stopped, the balloon effect happens.

My doctor wants some weight gone. I've been doing what he said, adding flax seed, oatmeal, high fiber to my diet, adding the extra steps and actually "going for a walk", I take the dogs. Back to the 3 meals a day, not skipping meals. I am not dieting, I eat whatever I want, just not as much of it. Maybe this time, it could be why some pounds have been disappearing, but I'm just not sure of that. My doctor explained how the weight does effect pain, bones, heart, etc. etc., The only major change, and it's not much of a change, has been that we added the swimming pool to my life. I don't go on a regular basis of any kind, hope he doesn't read this site LOL, but I do the bunny hop and old lady exercise in the pool, making myself stay for almost an hour.

Karen,
"Good" days are such a wonderful thing. Know exactly what you mean about wanting the day to never end. Sometimes I goof up and stay up too late on a good day, cause I don't want that feeling to end, then I pay the price the next few days. Last week was a very functional week for me, didn't feel good enough to be "good", but were all days that I was able to accomplish some things that have been hanging around for months.
Oh my goodness, weight!! What a subject!! But you know already know that crying isn't going to help it, but we all know that sometimes crying is all you can do about it. I've fought a 30 year battle with weight and I lost every battle (well almost). Had two points in 30 years that some weight actually went away for more than a day LOL. The last couple of months have actually been encouraging cause I have lost a few pounds each month. The problem is, I have no idea at all as to why. If I can't figure out the why, whatever changed will change back and then the weight will come right back.

I haven't been to the Veteran's clinic or hospital in CO, but know a few guys who have. I was told I didn't have any VA benefits, so I moved on to the public, and found a sliding scale clinic, where I went for 13 years until they replaced my doctor with a "crazy" doctor LOL. My circumstances have changed LOL.
Anyway the guys I know, who go to VA in CO Springs and in Denver have never complained about anything except there seemed to be a long wait to get an appointment. Both have always seemed satisfied with the care they received.
Am I understanding correctly, you were getting great care with VA and they changed doctors on you and changed your program on you, and what you got as a replacement isn't working for you?

Hi Everyone
I get so confused about when something is posted LOL. I think some posts are on the site immediately, then when something is reviewed it's added and that's how I'm missing it.

Thanks to all of you that have read Marianne's petition and signed on. I haven't visited the front porch myself, but I think it's a wonderful idea and plan to spend some time there.

My best friend in Indiana couldn't get his from the pharmacy as a refill. He had 2 go back 2 the doctor & he was told no.so bless everyone & thanks for the words of encouragement. I had a good day & don't want it end again. Then the cycle starts all over. I got 2 spend time with my pets.my moms cat & my bunny rabbit. Karen from columbus ohio.

Yes sometime in August they placed tramadol as a narcotic. If Uve had a script 4 refills some pharmacies will request a new 1 from ur doctor.or your doctor won't refill it. My friend in Indiana had this happen 2 him. It's supposed 2 help with pain.its easier 2 look it up than 4 me 2 explain.i was put on it from an ER trip of many. I have degenerated disk problems in the lower back that pinches the sciatic nerve.just 2 stand on my left leg sends pain like being stabbed in the back.up & down the leg.when both my parents where sick it was so hard 2 drive there.i would use bags of ice or ice packs 2 help. It's about a 6 hr. Trip. So after spending as much time as I could 4 Christmas I came home. My friend from Indiana & I where goin 2 visit 4 Father's Day. He was going 2 drive. My Mom said she wasn't sure how well she would b, she was 79 & my Dad was 80. She was trying 2 care for my Dad who was suffering from diabeties, early onset Alzheimer's or dementia.depends on the doc.We all thought & where more prepared 4 my Dad 2 go.i got a call from my aunt in Cleveland my Mom had cancer & my son & I made the trip 2 Evansville In. I spent the last 2 days with her in the VA hospice.that was in July.she passed away just short of her 80th. Birthday. Aug.3rd.then my Dad passed in September I was the last 2 talk 2 him. Through all this I couldn't get any help for pain.no sleep etc. Spent thanksgiving selling there house & trying 2 help the movers. My daughter & son in law helped as much as they could.they had 2 keep there jobs. I'm the only sibling as I said I'm 51. My bother had passed away when he was 30. So what I'm trying 2 say that through all this I thought I was going 2 go crazy I went 2 the ER trying 2 get help. Ha none. I couldn't think or handle all the desissions. Did the best I could. My doctor wouldn't help even though I had seen her & she new how much I was in pain. Then she wanted me 2 try Seraquil ER.wrong ! I just needed pain relief. Of course I was sad when Mom passed. The pain management system mostly all of them just want 2 give u shots.that was the worst thing I ever did.gabapentin 2.the weight gain is the worst. No help.so it comes 2 this Tramadol.u want 2 get ur life back.family gets frustrated 2. & ur friends 2. u have a gooday & u don't want it 2 stop.then it starts all over again.my son & his girlfriend had 2 move out a few months ago. He's back in collage & working. I'm trying as much as I can 2 get better. I no there are so many people who don't even need meds.who get them ! That's what hurts us all. & the so called health care system. HA wat a joke.the ins. I have 2 have now costs a lot.not sure how much longer I can keep this house our home of 28yrs. I used 2 b a business owner & work a night job.plus going 2 the gym.which I miss so much. I want 2 thank everyone on here & bless u all ! I have tried the TENS unit. It helps a bit at nite when u can't sleep. im tying 2 get a better unit on Amazon.mines the 1 u c on tv. uses batteries up though.maybe it can help someone else. I had a gooday 2 day & am not wanting it 2 end. So I'm up again with not much sleep. I wish so much that we who r hurting in real pain get the help we need. Tryin a new doc.this Thursday. A friend works there.but I still have 2 c this doc. First who I had 2 have because of ins. Well I no this was a long 1. But it does help !! Karen from Columbus, Ohio.

Daniel , there are restrictions regarding what a dr can prescribe without seeing you, unless you have established a dr patient relationship. You must see a dr face to face to established a dr patient relationship.

I'm linnietea.unfortunately most people have little to zero contact with the veterans hospital,I've been an advocate for women when it wasn't popular to speak.Because I'm retired medical person, having worked there makes life sometime complicated. You're correct,no physician has to follow a prior treatment plan however, due to logistical issues, and the reality my PC is very unhappy acquiring me as a patient,I became part of the scandal when the s-- hit the fan about VA corruption.Sometimes I never knew what I was in trouble for, people use my name, easy access. Now administration is stonewalling me over a frustrating misconception.nonetheless,I am human,I hurt and name calling still does penetrate my thick skin.Military guys will tell you,not always can what is done be opening talked about.(Sometimes things aren't that simple)
Thanks for the words ...I've read all of them. Right now,I'm not sure what to do,maybe board the 747 HOME.

Marianne,
Sometimes I get confused and miss posts, must be that some are delayed before they appear and others aren't. I'm probably getting ready to make people mad at me cause I'm getting ready to voice loud and clear an opinion. LOL I've been thinking about all the people who are using prescription drugs to feel high and the impact that has on all the truly sick people. After I get all my thoughts together on the subject, I'm going to sound off LOL

Daniel,
I don't think there's anything like an online doctor that can prescribe medication. I think there are OTC drugs that you can find online, but you can usually get those at the grocery or drugstore. Thinking about it, I don't know how a doctor could practice medicine online. How would they be able to decide what diagnostics you need and examine you?

Not sure what linnietea needs the legal help for, but you are right that no doctor has to follow the treatment plan of another prior doctor. Each doctor decided their own treatment plan.

Great to hear from you! Hope that means you are having a "good" day!! I think you are right, it would be easier to operate a business than deal with the "prescription saga". I know that crohns gives you a different set of challenges than I face, but maybe some of the things that work for you could help me. I am always looking for ways to organize, fix, do different, so that I can accomplish what most people think of as "everyday" life. Any advice would be appreciated.

Very sorry that you are suffering. I was just saying what I had read about tramadol (I've never taken it), lots of people who have, say there are certain brands that just don't work at all. I believe that it can be related to a brand, because I have a problem with oxy made by KVK Tech, it doesn't work for me.

Since getting insurance in May, my doctor prescribed Opana ER which is a 12 hour pain reliever, and oxy 10mg for breakthrough pain. I think the Opana ER is the most wonderful drug on the market. I don't have the ups and downs of oxy 30mg. I don't have the wait for the oxy 30mg IR to kick in to relieve the pain. The pain relief of the ER is a more level and constant thing, and I can actually go many hours without even thinking about medication. I heard there's an oxy ER that works also, that's less expensive than the Opana. There is a sedating effect with the Opana that has an adjustment period.
A side effect is that I've had lots less problems with attitude problems from pharmacies staff since beginning the ER. I still run into the same prior problems with the oxy10mg breakthrough. Maybe part of our answer with doctors, pharmacies, etc. is going to ER medication. Most of the ERs are tamper proof and don't give that surge of medication like the oxy 30mg does. Result, it isn't preferred by illegal drug users
