Doctors Who Prescribe Methadone (Page 6)

Updated

I am addicted to strong pain meds and I am tired of having to come off of them, the withdrawal is awful. I went to a urgent care doc and was prescribed suboxone. I take anxiety meds too but he wants me to stop. I really need the anxiety meds but he wants me off them. How do I get him to change it from suboxone to methadone so I can take my anxiety meds?

@Tessa,
Sorry hun, I should've explained I sent it here as a post. I see they didn't approve it for some reason. I'll try again. So don't get miffed if it shows up 2 times.
What I think I had said was that Ocean County is a good way from where I am. But it still may be closer than Scranton to U. Depends on if your lower Ocean or upper. When we email, we can figure that out. All I remember of yours was...{edited for privacy}. (I think) Think I'm missing something & can't check cause this site blocked it out after I read it the 1st time. Might now too ? I guess they don't want to have that happen cause of some people selling drugs. If U can't get it to me again, I'll have to try something else for U. I just don't want everyone to be able to find mine. (if ya know what I mean...) But since U already posted yours, I posted it again. (well, part of it anyway)

Tessa...I don't know how your cutting your meds down, but please be careful to not cut too much at once. Maybe try to take a few milligrams less at one dose a day. Then after a few days, cut it 2 times during a day. But not much more than that. It isn't going to stretch all that far, but some will help. I had cut myself down by only 5 mills. a dose, twice a day. I couldn't stand going under that. If U have any break-thru meds, try using those in between too. Hopefully, your Dr. search will end B-4 U run out at all. I only had 30 days of meds when I ran out. And some break-thru ones.
I can understand U feeling more pain this past weekend. When rain is coming or is here, I suffer extra also. Sad thing is...I always used to love rain. Still enjoy a good thunderstorm. Pain or not.
I'll try to remember anyone that was mentioned as being farther south of here. Or I'll search a bit n' maybe someone will come back to mind. I do remember there being one in Cherry Hill. But I'm not sure if it was a hospital based one. I think your still better off to try for a hospital based one. I don't think they will be quitting on U as fast.
As long as U have a referral of some type from your last doctor, a record of your scripts for at least the last year or two, U should be okay to apply to the hospital.
U don't have to go totally crazy with it. Just meant that more is better. Okay, this is long enuff. Hope they approve it..lata girl....

@Tessa
Oh man...now I've written 3 times n' they wanna review it 1st. Guess I type too much. Sorry. I don't know what to put in here again anymore. We will have to do the email thing, but they blocked yours out after I read it. Try doing it in code, okay ? Thanks. I'd try mine, but there are some I don't wish to share it with. I know you'll understand. Let's see if this one goes thru...

Thank you Jo. I see I had a typo...2 months not weeks, hence the 8 weeks at the clinic. It was hell as I can tell you understand. Did I mention the 17 ab surgeries, arthritis and degenerative disc disease in my neck, scoliosis in my back...as a result of my slouching over in pain so much. I truly feel your pain as well and want to thank you for your kind words. By the way I live in Michigan, 45 minutes north of Detroit, in the suburbs. Take care and I wish you the best.

Well fingers....Your most welcome. And don't ever feel U can't pop in n' post all U want to. Maybe one day somebody will come up with some information that all of us can benefit from. I do truly understand pain, no matter which thing/things it comes from. Pain is an invisible thing and nobody but the person in it can realize how bad it is. And I'm not talking about the type of pain U get when U skin your knee.

Doctors kill me when they ask where is our pain. Where is it between the number #1 & #10 they'll ask. Ummmm....ok doc, do U have a #99 in there somewhere ? U know what I mean. I know ya do.
Maybe some day they will understand. Good luck to ya fingers.....& keep on keepin' on.

@Tessa... I know only brief info re your situation but I think gathering 10 YEARS of med history is a bit much. I haven't been on this thread in a while BUT I think you should be very careful and not depend too much on what Jo tells you. She and I have had words and things got a tad nasty with accusations against me, etc. I also had an advocate/friend who turned out to be a PhD therapist that was involved in the discussions as well. And prior to her knowing his occupation, she was butting heads with him as well. I am very intuitive and I get extremely uncomfortable reading Jo's posts at times. Well, most times.

I think she spends most of her day on this forum because she responds to almost EVERY post. She gave extremely horrific, fake empathetic advice to a woman so totally desperate in intractable pain I had to intervene. Please, just be careful. I'm 60 years old myself and desperate to find a new PMDR within 30 days. I'm terrified. You are lucky to have 3 months worth of meds. I have a month's worth.

And @Jo, I can't wrap my head around the fact that you cannot give Tessa at LEAST the name of the hospital you are going to if you live in the same state/vicinity or whatever. This is what these forums are for partly, aside from getting moral support. But people are mostly looking for a doc in their area to help them!! My therapist friend raked you over the coals and had YOU diagnosed within a week with personality disorder and a few others. You ARE writing too much. You are NOT a doctor and you are doing a disservice by making Tessa (as if things weren't bad enough already) try to read your mind and pin the tail on the donkey of the list of hospitals you suggested. Just give her the damn name for God's sake. UNLESS you have something to hide? BTW, Using U for you is the most annoying thing on this thread. This is what teens do and hell I can't figure out their texting 'language'. I really don't care if you keep doing this, but you not being a trained counselor is a key thing here. Personal experience is best AND offering help (in the form of a name of a HOSPITAL) is the best advice you can give Tessa. Your rants don't benefit anyone but whatever agenda you may have, unfortunately you don't even know it. Think about it. And don't EVEN think of posting back anything negative about me. I admit my mistakes and you do not want to mess with me. I have my PhD Dr. friend who has my back and will attest to whatever I said.

OK folks, this is why it is becoming more and more difficult for us to get the pain meds we need, especially those of us in intractable pain such as myself, 24/7. Here's an article from a Massachusetts newspaper I found. A 47 year-old woman was pulled over by police because she was driving erratically. When asked if she was taking medication she indicated she "had several prescription pills in her purse". When the police checked, they found NO prescriptions with her name on them, but straws that apparently had residue from snorting powdered medications. She was found with.

metrowestdailynews.com/features/x1570562034/Framingham-woman-faces-drug-charges

Police said " The drugs found in Fitzsimmons' purse included OxyContin, Klonopin, hydrocodone and other narcotics. She could not provide police with any prescriptions. OxyContin and hydrocodone are opiate-based pain medications, while Klonopin is an anti-anxiety medication." Police charged Fitzsimmons, of 24 Davidson Road, with 11 counts of possession of a controlled substance. I hope (tho it's not a Christian thing to say) that she experiences the bad side by experiencing some withdrawal symptoms. There's a photo of her (mug shot), and she looks really effed up.

Now THIS pisses me off.

@Ms Tweetie--What you say is true and have every right to feel angry. I still don't understand why Drs. (and all part of it) refuse or are leery to give a prescription to people who really need it. I said this for years that it seems the ones who sell their script and/or pills have no problem getting a prescription. Yet here I was after back surgery, broken ribs, broken ankle and all I wanted was something stronger than Tylenol so I could go to work but never got any satisfactory results. I was 37 y/o, didn't look like I was in pain, so maybe that was part of the discrimination. But I also didn't look like a junkie. One weekend my pain was so severe not just from what I had mentioned but a abscess tooth was bringing me to my knees and my jaw looked like a baseball was in my mouth. Could hardly talk. I went to a clinic for antibiotics. I could have used 6-8 pills till I could see a dentist. Was told to take Tylenol. But here's the kicker:
My wife felt bad for me so went to the same clinic to fake a migraine....she got 60 Vicodin. They lasted quite a while and not one was sold or given away-Yet time and time again the ones who get relief sell them for other drugs or money. Drs. should randomly give UA drug screens, count their pills at the same time. Maybe that would help people whom really need relief from suffering. It's inhumane. How people who want/need relief are looked at as junkies. It's inhumane. Everybody don't drink beer/whiskey/wine yet you could buy a supply enough for a small country if you wanted to. You know the International language for this problem? $$$$$$-It's not to save lives or any other reason, if that were the case, there wouldn't be alcohol at your beckon call.

I am lucky in the sense that I have legitimate pain issues backed up by xrays, ct scans, mri's and of course physical exams. I just had a talk with my doc cuz I wasn't 100% sure if what I actually have at this point. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, he confirmed his original diagnosis of arthritis and degenerative disc disease, progressed to the point of spurs?, scoliosis, nerve damage in my right arm, etc. I've been blessed with my current neurologist and hope and pray nothing EVER happens to change that. Best of luck to you all.

Thank GOD "Jo" has finally stopped posting on this particular thread. She has posted more than 1/2 the comments on here, giving false, horrifically dangerous 'advice' that I find truly appalling. I called her on her s*** numerous times. If you read through hers, you'll find MAJOR contradictions in her "story", feels it important to tell everyone she is not an "ADDICT". She has severe emotional problems and from a PhD friend of mine on this forum who turns out to be a psychotherapist, actually said she had a personality disorder, among other things. She's accused (or insinuated) one of my pals, who posted about Methadone and Valium, or benzos in particular, (am paraphrasing here) "that "benzos don't work as well when you are taking them, unless you are selling. Shame on you." I swear on my grandbabies she said this and worse. BTW Jo, should you check back for messages here, I've been on Valium quite a while and when I was taking Methadone, the reason I was taking the Valium for worked just fine, thank you.

I also read a post of yours here where you mentioned something to the effect that you were taking 5mgs of Methadone x2/day. For your neuropathy. If this IS true then you don't know what in the hell you are talking about regarding intractable pain. Prove me otherwise and I'll admit my mistake and apologize.

So, what other forum are you on now? Wreaking havoc upon unsuspecting people who are in desperate need of 'peer' help? Trust me folks, do NOT trust this Jo. If you have time to read up from the beginning, you'll begin to see her insane tactics, need for approval, know it all, and manipulator. RUN for your lives when she's around. Or, just do as a few others have done here, call her on her s***, and see how she wiggles her way out of it.

This is for Ms. Tweetie. I just happened to read what you said about Jo. Don't you have anything better to do than berate people on this forum. I thought this place was a place one could go and try to get help. All you seem to do is talk about other people and how much they don't know and that you have a friend who is a PhD. Who cares?? Why don't you try to help someone rather than belittle people. You are someone I can certainly do without. Every reply is so redundant. You're like a broken record. Please try to be kind and not find fault with everyone.

I agree, I have RSD/CRPS (neuropathic pain) I have tried all combinations of meds, for ten years. Methadone combined with Lyrica is the only thing that takes off enough of the pain so that I can breath and just function so that I don't end up in a nursing home. It truly scares me to death. If this pain returns full blast, I won't be able to deal with it.

No doctors or maintenance clinics will give you methadone if you are on any sort of anxiety medications (benzos) such as xanax, valium, klonopin, etc. When i went up to the clinic to sign up they said if any benzos showed up in your system they will immediately send you away. Its the other way around, you can take anxiety meds if you are on suboxone so i dont know who told you that you couldnt. Benzos and methadone is a very dangerous combination and can kill you.

I don't know Mo, I am on klonopin and I am taking methadone prescribed by a pain clinic. They didn't seem to have a problem with it. My husband is on it a well.

Thank you,
Tessa

The medical field needs to get their act together. The clinics throw people out for using benzos yet it's Ok for a Dr. to prescribe them. Anything is dangerous if abused. I been on methadone for 10 years and at times have taken benzos during a loss of a loved one or something that happened that I needed calming. I'm still here. I've never taken more than 10mg of diazepam with 100 mls of methadone. At the present time I'm on 35 mls of methadone and still can't get a script for a mild benzo but they will give me something that turns me into a zombie--I just don't get it.

just moved back to grand rapids, MI. The doctor I was seeing before I moved no longer prescribes methadone. I am looking for a internal medicine doctor, real doctor NOT a clinic. I have 9 years of cronic pain and medical history.

This is to Guy, all I have to say is good luck. My husband and I were seeing a private physician in Pa. and moved to NJ, talk about culture shock. The doctor in Pa was prescribing us methadone for chronic pain. By the way, we are both in our early sixties, and we both have very bad backs, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc diseases, you name it. We tried for 7 months to find a private doctor to no avail. Finally we went to a pain management clinic and although the doctors there do have private practices we were informed the government frowns upon physicians who privately write prescriptions for methadone. They prefer to have it done in a clinical setting. Best of luck to you.

Thank you very much for your response. Have you tried looking at/contacting the medical society in your state? I am waiting a response back from them myself.
