Anybody taking more than 60mg a day?...I was doing good for 1mo on 60mg, now a week ago I started feeling aweful fatigue and some vertigo mostly all day...couldn't take Cymbalta at nite...it disturbed my sleep. So wondering if my Doc will increase the dose I take now...last time he did my fatigue went away...just wondering if Cymbalta works like Effexor where you need a higher than 75 mg dose to reach the part of the brain that deals with energy? Anybody taking a higher dose, and if so what does the Dr say is the reason for increasing it beyond Cymbaltas recommended 60mg dose?

Well, it is possible to suddenly develop an allergy to something, even if you have been using it for awhile with no problems. Our bodies change as we age and that just happens sometimes.

It is hard to pinpoint if it is from the Cymbalta or something else you are using, there are many things that can cause an allergy, your perfume, your soap, shampoo, body wash, different meds and etc.

Your best bet is to listen to your doctor and the two of you can work to try to narrow down the cause.

I have been taking Cymbalta for almost six months for nerve pain. I would have like lightening pain hitting my ankle and started the Cymbalta and after a few weeks of taking 120 mg the pain went away. Now I have numbness in my leg and down my left arm. I don't know why my arm is going numb, if it might all be related to my back or not. I did take the gabatentin up to 900 mg and it didn't do anything. I am not depressed and don't have any different feelings in that department. Thanks

Careful with this drug! I took it for a couple of weeks and ended up in the hospital with swelling of my brain stem. It is very hard to get out of your system. I only wish I had read up more on it before taking it

Thanks for the tip but I have been on it for a long time and suppose to come off it I will have to do it very gradually.

Stephen, there still would have been no way to know it would have caused that to happen to you, no matter how much you read up on the drug, drugs react different ways for different people and what you experienced was a very rare and uncommon reaction. No need to panic everyone else who is using it, it is not a common occurence at all, and it could have just as easily have happened with a completely different drug as it did with this one.

Yes Karen, you will need to do a slow taper to get off, both due to withdrawal issues and the rebound depression effects.

Faith, I have been prescribed cymbalta for back pain, herniated disk. The thing is I was on Cymbalta for a month and when I wen to get my med refilled my insurance wanted a prior authorization from my doctor and I was off my Cymbalta 60mg. In any event it caused me to have extreme headaches and vertigo. I have felt pain relief but I would rather take a pain medication then deal with the with drawls that come along with cymbalta.

Patricia Allen Make sure your husband is put on an other med before quiting or changing to a new med from Cymbalta. My sideeffects of being off the med was excruiating headaches. If he already has headaches I could not phantom what the side effect quitting the med would do. It took a couple of weeks for me to feel relief with my back pain. I dob't know how everyone else feels but as long as he takes the med he'll be fine have the doc have a plan if he chages or stops the med. It is the worst head pain you'll ever feel. The feeling does not touch a complex migraine. Has anyone else had the same experiences as my self with having to stop Cymbalta??

I have been on Cymbalta for a few months now. The good it has done with my depression, arthritis and fibro is unbelievable. I still have pain but nothing compared to what it was before Cymbalta. I have been having problems with high blood pressure the last month and was wondering if anyonne else on Cymbalta is having this problem. I sure hope it is not the cause of the B/P because I sure would hate to have to give it up and go back to the way I was feeling.

Cymbalta was originally intended to be an antidepressant, it only works on certain types of pain for certain people, the rate for that is actually 50%, so it will not work for everyone.

Valarie, you need to speak to your doctor and let them know you are not having any success with it.

I am 22, and I have severe back and knee pain. I feel like the doctors I've seen don't believe me. My doctor prescribed me Cymbalta 2 weeks ago, and I feel nothing except more pain. Not only has it not helped the pain, but now it's affecting my ability to sleep. Also, because none of the doctors would give me anything that seemed to adequately help the pain, I had to quit my job. Now, I just don't lnow what to do. I appreciate any suggestions.

Well first off, 2 weeks is not enough time to try the Cymbalta and see if it will help you, it takes at least a month to reach a therapeutic dose in your body.

The problem with it, and I will admit that it did not work for me at all even though I tried it for several months, but it is not a medication that works for everyone anyway.

It only helps with certain types of nerve pain. If something else is causing your pain, other than nerve damage, such as slipped discs, degenerative disc disease, arthritis or whatever, it will not help.

The basic problem you are facing here is the due to the new DEA and FDA regulations, most doctor's are almost terrified to prescribe narcotics to treat pain, unless they can actually see a definitive reason for that person to be in pain.

Anytime they right any type of prescription for a controlled substance, they have to keep a log of it and regularly turn over those logs to the government. If someone feels that the problem that patient has was not serious or bad enough to warrant those prescriptions, then the doctor has to answer for that. They risk severe fines and loss of their license to practice medicine.

Not to mention their liability if someone ends up addicted or overdosing on such meds.

Really, they should be running some tests to see what is causing your pain and what can be done to fix your problems. There are milder meds they can use in the meantime to help ease your pain.

If this doctor is just not helping, then it is definitely time to switch.

i have been taking this since October 2006. It has been a life safer. I could not tell you how much pain I was in prior. It hasn't taken all the pain away but about 90%. I feel like a new person.

I started th3 30mg Cymbalta last Thursday. It was prescribed for back pain and being sluggish. It deffinately has stopped the pain, but I have been quite hyper and have lost 5 pounds which is a good thing. It is starting to calm a littel more in my system, but eventually they want me to move to 60. It has almost been a week, no pain but very hyper.

Does anyone know if cymbalta raises your pulse rate. Mine is running from 90 - 110 .

I had a strong reaction to Cymbalta and it did include a higher pulse rate around 90 along with a significant increase in blood pressure. I also take MS Contin for a back issue and I have a concern that I may have had a drug interaction. After taking my first dose of Cymbalta 30mg I began having nausea followed by what felt like a complete loss of brain function. My husband took me to the emergency room. It was very busy so after two or three hours in the waiting room my vision was still blurred but better and my speech had returned so we returned home thinking the worst was over. I was wrong. My husband woke me during the night about every thirty minutes to make sure I wasn't taking a bad turn. The next morning I got up and noticed my vision wasn't normal. I went to get the phone to dial my doctors office. I knew the number but when I tried to dial the number I kept dialing wrong. I couldn't make any sense of the numbers on the phone display. I went to get the phonebook and when I tried to read I began to have an episode that was very frightening. My brain began to feel very very cold. It then felt like my brain was filling with an icy cold liquid, my vision began to fail and I thought I was going to pass out. I was unable to get to the car so my husband called an ambulance. By the time the paramedics arrived the episode had subsided but I still had very odd sensations going on in my brain. All I could tell them was I didn't feel right. We requested they take me to the hospital where the Doctor simply said I was having a reaction to Cymbalta and sent me home. I was there for maybe 15-30 minutes and out the door they sent me. I continued to have more episodes, terrified through them wondering if something worse was going to follow. It has been eight days since I took my dose of Cymbalta. I have suffered severe headaches and sharp pains in my brain when I used my brain to think or have conversations. My headache has returned writing what happened to me. My speech is mostly good and I drove this morning for a few minutes, but the motion was a very odd sensation. My writing may not be as clear as I would like, but I wanted people to be aware of possible side effects. What was interesting is that during the first 24-48 hours after taking the Cymbalta I was close to pain free. It was the first time in months I did not have leg pain. The leg and back pain has returned. I still have moments of increased heart rate, sometimes waking me during the night. I don't want to discourage someone from trying Cymbalta. I would just encourage to research on your own any possible side effects and speak with your doctor about any concerns. For all the chronic pain sufferers out there - the day or two without pain was awesome. I don't know if the Cymbalta was responsible or my brain was just too mest up to know I was in pain but it might be worth talking to your doctor about.
