2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 52)

Updated

My spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.

@lawlady I did not say you treated them with drugs-I said if your not on these type of drugs on here an not treating your people with them -why are you even on this site-this Site was set up for people who cannot fill there pain Meds-so you said you Treat addicts an you said the bulk was 30yrs of age an then I said there are alot of teens an people in there early 20s taking drugs an taking them an do not need them-I also said there are people who have Cancer an been in wrecks an have other problems for taking them-but since the pill mills have opened up you have kids who have nothing wrong with them taking them to get High only an selling them to live instead of being a real Man or woman an getting a real Job to pay there Bills,an its the people like that who makes everyone else in real pain suffer an not be able to get there Meds filled-thats why pill mills shouldn't be aloud in this State-Funny that no other State will allow them in there State to hand out pills to whoever walks into there office-with or without pain-everyone was getting oxycodone an oxycottin an now all morphine-an now pharmacies are only allowed so many to hand out,an soon it will get just like the others an they will stop them as well, the only people that will get them soon is people in the hospital or nursing home with Cancer or Hospice an everyone else will be moving away from florida in order to be able to get them, allowing the pill mills to remain open will ruin it for everyone very soon-the DEA takes a pay off I am sure to let them stay an hand out pills to every person who walks in there office-pill mills probably make over 50.000 a month just from writing paper-so I am sure there able to pay the DEA 5000.00 a month to stay open-Its all about money now Days an I will guarantee there being paid off to stay open-I do not understand the DEA an goverment in this State that would allow any 18yr old an up to just walk in an be able to get pills-if a regular Doctor does not send you to pain management then you shouldn't be allowed to just go there pay them a fee an go get scripts to ruin your Body when there isn't a thing wrong with you,No matter what people say or write to them they still do nothing to them-just allow them to remain open an destroy people from getting there meds,an because of them in another year they will all be hard to get in this State because of the Paper Pushers,an when it Happens everyone will say I was right

Flatom, why WOULDN'T someone studying to be a medical doctor (me), with experience in drug addiction treatment belong on this page?? I know about the laws and shortages firsthand. Duh. I didn't think I would need to spell it out for anyone. It's called helping people out with your knowledge. Perhaps you still don't understand, but even so, who said this page was ONLY for people who can't get their scripts filled?? You? And that's all I read from your post. They're too long and far too difficult to read with all the run-on sentences and grammatical errors. I don't mean to make fun of you, I just can't read those long posts unless they are at least semi properly constructed.

Y'all there must be something I am missing or don't understand. Like so many comments I have read here, I too, was in a horrific automobile accident, air.lifted to UAB, B'ham Alabama. I have had 27 put to sleep surgeries, go to the **** Treatment Clinic there and have never had a problem w/getting pain medication. I have already stated before I am on Fentanyl, now, 75mg and Oxycodone. They prescribe it, I get it filled. End of story. If you abuse it, it's your own fault because you'll run out and the pharmacy doesn't do early refills. I am also on, Xanax, Ambien and Soma. I know about the ramifications of taking too many of this or that and dying.

Remember I told y'all back in 2011 may patch fell off and I just stuck it in my mouth. WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!! DO NOT DO THAT. I WAS TAKING MY AUNT TO THE CARDIOLOGIST IN AUBURN WHEN I JUST, WHAM FELL SOUND ASLEEP AND THEY COULDN'T WAKE ME UP. SO DON'T DO THAT PEOPLE.

Maybe it is from the people that have not had a traumatic episode happen in their life. There MRI's or CT scans don't show permanent damage. I don't know how they get this kind of medication w/out something BAD BAD. or Cancer.

Doctors handing out this strong of meds w/out a bonifide accident like mine and many of y'all is plan out wrong. But it just isn't an issue f/me. Never has been.

Wish y'all the best of luck if you've had significant injuries, what have you.

I am not trying to be "Miss It" or "Miss Know It All" but if you are having a hard.time getting your medication at a "chain drug store" try a family owned one.

I have used the same family owned drugstore over 13years and I promise they treat me like a queen. They go out of their way to help me. Have never ever turned their nose up at any prescription. I refuse to use the drugstore in my hometown and use this drugstore that is out of town north of here. They mail my medication(s). It is wonderful. I personally don't won't my hometown knowing what medications I take. It's a small southern town and believe me they talk even if they are sworn not too. That is my case anyway, maybe not y'all.

Just try a family owned drugstore. A suggestion is all I have. And I wish you the best

Where did you get your dialaudid filled? I'm in Jax, & I had my Roxy script changed, (for obvious reasons) & no-one has them either. Btw, dialaudid are stronger anyway, 1 does it, so I can work, w o screaming from back pain. But, I've been riding round looking for them too. Help????

Deep south, we get it, you get your meds filled every month. Good for you. I was with a small pharmacy for over a year, new owners took over, & that was the end of that. Don't be so confident you're safe, BC no one is safe from being cut off. I wasn't in a horrible accident, but do have degeneration of discs in cervical.& lumbar spine, in addition to 8 herniated discs. MRI shows a lot is going on. I worked hard all my life, & did a lot of heavy lifting etc. I'm prescribed 1 pain med. I found a chain pharmacy with a pharmacist who makes sure I get med filled every month. I've been there for 5 months now. We've developed a good relationship, & call a week nbefore Dr appt every month. It's been a blessing. The one thing I've learned since starting pain mgt 3 yrs ago, is nothing as far as getting meds filled is 100%. None of it. I've seen younger people go up to window with their.prescription's, & on more than 1 occasion they've been told they don't carry schedule II or even schedule III meds, & were turned away. I don't blame the pharmacy, I blame the drs who prescribe these last resort meds to anyone who seeks them. Y'all as you say, better be grateful, BC after 18 mos w/ first chain cut off BC they were overfilling. 1 yr w/ small pharmacy, new owners, didn't care about me. This is 3rd pharmacy, & although I know he goes out of his way to make sure my med is in stock every month, NOTHING is guaranteed when it comes to this situation. Why you're here boasting, many are suffering needlessly. Nothing in life is for sure but birth, taxes & death. My prayers for the rest. of you who are still going through hell.

Had a problem filling 2 days ago. Spoke to pharmacist, said RX filled. I get there, another pharmacist on. The tech tells me nothing here for u? I told him I spoke w/ pharm a few hrs ago! Couldn't find the paper script. It was filled by mistake for someone else. The pharm in duty said sorry, he won't be back til next WK. They ended up doing it, but pharm on wasn't happy, & told me he'll never do this again for me. I was very upset, it wasn't anything I did, but I had to stand there & be treated like crap. Tech knows me well, I have @ least 10 other RX's filled non narcotic BC of so many health problems. So now, BC this happened, will I still get help next month? I have no idea. This is so unfair, to be sick & wonder when bottom will drop out again. I'm sick of it, the certain govt agency has made it a nightmare for drs, pharmacy & CPP. I'm considering weaning off 1bpain med. I sometimes wonder it would be better to suffer physical pain than going thru this mental anguish 1/2 the time. I wish no one harm, I only wish those self righteous agency suffer a few days of terrible pain, & not be able to fill a pain med. Sick if this to the 10th degree. An animal is treated more humanely than a CPP.

Jvk
I've had the same issues in Tampa, same pharm for years only to be denied one day by different techs.
Have you tried an insurance home delivery? I have Cigna and their home delivery pharmacy works great - been using them for about a year now with no issues.

Hope this helps.... I feel for you!!!

The thing is these ledgeslators take care of themselves with these problems, it's us little people they have to protect us from ourselves.

For all legitimate pain patients, take a look at this blog and follow the article mentioned to the drug topics link. Post your comments so that these advocates can use your info to help all who suffer from pain in the US. Suffering with pain is not acceptable for legitimate patients.

There should be a law, for 3 years I've been going to a pharmacy in the hospital because all chain pharms in the area have stopped carrying oxycodone ( so they say, I got tired of being rejected and driving around# ok, so this pharmacy never accpepted my county discount card, so at first they charged 2.00 a pill # at cvs same rx cost me 44 cents a pill ) next year, they changed to 3.00 a pill, a whopping 500 every month,, now , I go there last week, they all of a sudden doubled to 6.00 a pill, I'm outraged, is this legal?

The med shortage is a result of the actions of the DEA and they are holding the phamacists directly responsible for the illicit rx drug use problem and have now put limits on how much meds the pharmacies can order. The actions of the DEA are illegal and the problem. can only be fixed by writing letters to the attorney general and congressmen to bring this problem into the light and remedy the situation

I've written congressman, governor etc. They don't care about us. I haven't been able to fill this med for over 2 yrs now. Had to switch to percocet, not giving me adequate pain relief, & every month it's a nightmare to fill those too. It's cruel to deny a legitimate chronic pain sufferer the quality of life bc we can't fill pain meds. I'm tired of being in pain, & being made to suffer bc of rampant drug addicts abuse. The irony is the fact that H abuse is skyrocketing in FL bc people are desperate. I would never consider that route, but bc if this state's war on drugs, now there's a more serious problem with illegal drugs. Very sad & awful problem.

I ment to say: DO NOT GO TO DR. PRIEWE in Sarasota or Bradenton Florida. He hates veterans and he is a 30 year Naval officer. He told me that I was not in a real war and he was in a real war "Vietnam". This was after I told him I was wounded in Iraq and recieved Purple Heart from an IED that broke my neck, back and gave me a severe brain injury. Then he told me because I'm 100% disabled and retired from the military that I am AM AN ECONOMIC DRAIN TO SOCIETY. AND THAT I DESERVE BEING DISABLED BECAUSE I CHOSE TO ENLIST. So I am suing this dr under a malpractice and reported him to the VA, Wounded Warrior Project and the military. Please stay away from this guy. Don't give him the business. And he was busted by DEA because of abusing meds. I transferred to him from the base and he wants to take me off meds with no plan for fixing me, he said go get a job I'm not letting you sit at home and take pain meds. I told him I'm retired. Again he said I'm a drain on the economy. Good luck if you go here.
