1st Time - Suboxone
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I am starting my suboxone treatment tomorrow after I'm into the ever dreaded WD's. My 1st prescription is for 8 mg. 1/2 a pill every hour until the symptoms have subsided. I have been taking 14-17 10 mg. hydrocodones a day for about 1 1/2 yrs. I'm very scared of how I am going to feel for the next few days. I am also dealing with a lot of anxiety. Does anyone know if I can take a 1/2 or whole xanax while taking Suboxone to help with anxiety? I'm reading conflicting reports on this. I've got a call into my dr., but have not heard back yet. I am very concerned about how I will be able to function for the next few days or weeks. Yesterday was my first dr. visit and prescription. I really want to kick this awful habit. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Need advice... I am dreading the wd that are going to come before I take the suboxen. I sometimes would take up to 15 10mg Norco daily due to nerve damage and multiple hand and wrist injuries . I'm tired of what pills have done to my life. They have ruined everything. I want to go on suboxen because I don't want to relapse and I want this to be seriously my last time ever touching the evil pills. Please help me understand how the experience is going to go if I wait the 20 hrs before I take the suboxen will the suboxen then take the wd symptoms away. Please help me understand better so I have a timeline. Otherwise my anxiety I feel like may be what sends me to my grave prior to wd even happening. Thank you.

I definitely feel for you, I have been there! The suboxone will actually start working immediately so you just have to count downthe hours until your appt!!! ( you may already know this because I think you posted this a few days ago) . Do yourself a huge favor though and take less than the Dr prescribes! I've been on a very small dose for a few years ( much smaller than my Dr prescribes) and I feel normal and haven't relapsed or experienced any major problems. I do suffer awful withdrawals however, when I try to ween myself off my very small dose. That is troubling to me! As for taking xanax, you absolutely must stay away from them. There are interactions with them and suboxone that can be fatal!!! I think benzos are a huge no no and they will show up in your urine at your suboxone checkups. My doctor found them in mine one time and almost discontinued me from the program. It's not worth it! Good luck to you and God bless!

Please do yourself a favor and do not take a 8 mg in full or a full half, I was on high mg for 6 years and I refused to take more than 2 mg-breaking 8 into 4's. All you need is a little to help you through the days and try to be off in 2 months, if you are interested in kicking the opiates control. Sadly the suboxone works great at withdrawals, but can turn into yet another pill hard to get off of. It will help you more than you understand, it is a blessing just do not get caught up once again on the thought of its harmless to stay on. They block your receptors, your brain will calm and work quick to get on out! Good Luck!

How long were you on suboxone? Do the Docs giving it out want you to get off it? I think it would be important to get off it within 3 months or 6 months. I mean, can't people get clean anymore?

You can use xanax while using sub, not big doses if you are not used to it. But you should know xanax, alprazolam is the worst benzo if you get addicted to it, (not unlike opiates symptoms) try oxazepam which is a not so potent and not as addictive.

I was using 200+ mg of Oxycodone a day. Tapered a week on 25 mg percecet waited a day and took 2 mgs of Suboxone. next day one mg, 3rd day .5mg 4th day .25 and fifth day a crumb. Doctors prescribe WAY too much for WAY too long. Remember 13 days and you are addicted. I HAVEN'T FELT GREAT BUT I AM UP AND DOING THINGS.

Wellll.....It is not safe to take any benzoes while on any opoids. There is a huge risk for overdose leading to death. However, I have taken xanyx while on suboxone and have been fine. If you do end up taking the benzoes, be very careful and Do Not take a lot. Good luck to you, I know it's not easy!

I have been on suboxine for 4 weeks now, I take 16mg at the moment. I was addicted to Codeine that the Dr had prescribed for Carpel Tunnel Syndrome and was abusing them for 3 years. What is the ideal amount of suboxine you can be on, I am terrified about the W/Ds from this drug. Can anyone give me advise.

advise regarding xanax and the like. TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR AND DO WHAT HE SAYS!!!!!Remember Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley!!!!! ALSO, come off caffiene go to 1/2 the caffiene, it makes anxiety worse. I died without my coffee...but i love community brand coffee with chicory, out of lousiana, I found on the website chicory and decaff coffee...it is delicious and it does the job for coffee lovers. peace and blessings to all!!!!

I do agree with the suboxene WD....I began spacing myself on my own about my 3months down the line...I started the last week in Oct. and Completely off the 4th week in June...I still fit a bit, but the good thing is I hated the taste of it and would gag trying to take it...so the biggest thing for me is I would begin to salivate and gag along with the other crazy WD symptoms....I just made up in my mind that It had to Go and I let it GO!!!! plus I have no job no insurance and the cost was killing me.....God Bless each of you, stay strong and hang in there.....Peace and Blessings

Suboxone is wonderful when trying to detox from opiods. Please be careful though.... suboxone w/d is actually worse than the original w/d that you would face (at least for me). Try to take the lowest possible dose of suboxone that you can, and take it for the shortest amount of time that you can. When the time comes to quit, you must not only taper the dose, you must space it out as much as possible. I was on sub for 15 months, and even with a slow taper, the w/d was unbearable.... Worst thing I ever went through...I am 14 days into the w/d and still kickin......

This thread caught my attention today because a few others and I have been simutainiously carrying on a similar discussion about withdrawing from Oxycontin on a different thread. If any of you are interested in reading my account of successfully withdrawing from long term use of Oxycontin and many other pain medications, just go to
Oxycontin discussions and read the last few pages of postings from myself and others. I will let them know where to find your postings related to detoxing issues. This thread you've started here will be extremely helpful in others quest to get off the various addictive and destructive drugs prescribed to us. I bet this site has a ton of similar discussions on detoxification issues which are located under many different drug names. This makes it extremely difficult to locate the wealth of information and tips on detoxification related issues that others have posted.
Does anyone else think it would be a good idea to try to consolidate the various threads on this site which address detoxification issues onto a single designated thread titled, Detox tips and issues. I'd be interested in hearing what others think about this idea. It sure would make it easier for those of us seeking help for this issue to have these important, useful and encouraging personal accounts posted within one clearly labeled thread designated for all detox. conversations and postings? Let me hear from some of you.

I know this response is rather late to your original posting. Suboxone/subutex are fantastic at getting you used to not craving that opiate relief other agonist opiates give. I hope it has gone well. The transition from any opiate to suboxone can take a few days but hang on in there. I've gone from losing everything to now working on a PhD and teaching criminology. In the UK subutex has been available as an alternative to methadone since 1995. I can't understand how a country like the US can be so far behind when it comes to treating opiate dependence--even in Iran where they have over 3 million heroin addicts methadone programms are being rolled out. Addiction is treated as an illness not a potentially criminal act. Good luck to you

I AM NOW HYDRO AND SUBOXONE FREE. THE SUBOXONE HAS WORKED WELL. HOWEVER, I am on Tramodol 50mg to help with my pain. Non-Opiod Pain Killer. take it twice daily...prescribed for every 6hrs. I have learned to deal with the pain. Just Happy to no longer be controlled by the opiods.
R.I.P Michael Jackson. FYI His Life has been Loss due to his addiction to PAIN MEDs....Lesson to be learned!!!!! Peace and Blessings and Good Luck!!!!
