I do not have dental insurance and I am suffering from a toothache. From past experiences, it feels like an exposed nerve. Is there anything over the counter that you can recommend I take to help reduce any infection as well as reduce the pain? ## Hi, Spencer! Sorry about the toothache. No, there is nothing available over the counter that can help with the infection. That's going to require an antibiotic and those are only available by prescription, except for the ointments that can't be used in your mouth. For pain, there are several options, such as Orajel and Anbesol, but they are just topical anesthetics that won't last for long, plus you need to check with a doctor or dentist to make sure they are safe for you to use. I know it can be expensive, but you really need to s...

I was PAINFULLY curious as to the effectiveness tramadol has for moderate/severe toothaches. Usually 800-1000 mg(4 or 5)of ibuprofen alleviate my toothaches, but my friend gave me 6 50mg. tramadols suggesting they might help. Please, anyone with info or reply will be greatly appreciated. thanks!!! ## For anyone looking for this information, Tramadol is a centrally acting analgesic, so it really has as good of a chance of helping with a toothache as any other pain reliever. The caveat, of course, is that this is a prescription medication, so it shouldn't be taken if your doctor hasn't prescribed it. Additionally, it is derived from an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation...

Well its about 2am and i been up becouse My mouth well gums started hurting around 12pm all of a sudden and all I have in the house is in profen 800 mg and/or these IG 283 pill I was wondering if I could take that for the pain two get me threw the night ## Hello, Brad! How are you? Actually, you'd be better of with the Ibuprofen if your doctor approves of you taking it, since it is classified by the FDA as an NSAID that is used to treat pain, fever and swelling. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach irritation. Cyclobenzaprine, however, is a muscle relaxant, not an analgesic, so it won't do anything to help with a toothache. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth. Is there anything e...

is it good for toothaches? ## Ciprofloxacin is limited to the treatment of proven bacterial infections such as: -Urinary tract infections (not recommended as a first-line antibiotic) -Acute uncomplicated cystitis in females -Chronic bacterial prostatitis (not recommended as a first-line antibiotic choice) -Lower respiratory tract infections (not recommended as a first-line antibiotic choice) -Acute sinusitis (not recommended as a first-line antibiotic choice) -Skin and skin structure infections -Bone and joint infections -Infectious diarrhea -Typhoid fever (enteric fever) caused by Salmonella typhi Since it doesn't list tooth aches as a treatment option, I would definitely suggest looking into Clove Essential Oil. It's a natural remedy for dental issues as far as alleviating too...

I got a bad toothaches and was prescript Pontalon Mefenamic Acid 250mg, the next day i went for tooth extraction and wasn't given any medicine so i assume i need the same medication. Now after 2days i still having the pain from the gum even i took this medicine. is there anything wrong? i remember 2years back i went for a tooth extraction i was given mouth wash and medication for only 2days but it was perfect. ## Have you consulted the dentist that did the extraction? Mefenamic Acid is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory that can help with some pain and swelling, but how much it will help really depends on the extraction done. For instance what type of tooth it was and if there were any complications. It can also take awhile for an extraction site to heal, especially if it was a front ...

possible pain med from mexico for toothaches? ## i need english translation of metamizol sodico and what it contains does it contain aspirin or naproxen or penicillin? ## It's quite silly to tell someone that it's very difficult to get information on foreign drugs. The information is quite readily available. You just need to know the language, and in some cases, English will work just as well on line. To the person asking the question about metamizol sodico, I found with just a quick search, a warning for anyone allergic to aspirin. ## I'm sorry, I forgot to add what the ingredient is. It's Dipirona, an antiinflammatory medication used in Europe and Latin America, but which has been removed from the market in the U.S. due to its tendency to lower blood pressure levels. #...

Did you know a lot of toothaches and face sweeling is due to your main sinus duct where your cheek bone is, that is filled up with fluid, called sinusitis? Most people don't even know you can get that. Causes teeth to hurt, gums swollen, face swelling. It's always good to see a doctor first so they can put you on the right meds. Even though Cedfinir is one of the medication they will prescribe. But do understand it is not a miracle pill. Give it 4-6 days before you even see any results. Ok well I just wanted to share some info. Have a nice day. ## Hello AlwaysSick, Thank you for this information. Just to expand a little bit upon this, allergies in general can make more than just your teeth and nose swell and ache. Anywhere that your body is exposed to the allergens can become in...

Could my infection have spread. Ive heard remarkes about infection spreading to your heart, is this true?? ## Hello, Erma! How are you? Yes, dental infections can spread and, if the underlying issues that caused the infection haven't been fixed, then it might not entirely clear up and/or could recur. It would be best to see your doctor and your dentist, to be sure of what's goin...

I take 70mgs of methadone daily. I’ve been experiencing toothaches but it is unbearable right now. I have a Dilaudid 8mg here. If I take that now at 11 pm, will that affect my methadone dose tomorrow? Will it counteract my methadone or will my dose still work as accurately as any other day? I usually get my dose after lunch. ## Hello, Leslie! How are you? There is a chance that the Dilaudid may not work, since you are on the Methadone. The NIH warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Are you on any other medications?

I,m already prescribed tramadol for pain is it helpful for toothache? ## Hi Dot, Based on my research, Tramadol can be a feasible treatment option for pain associated with toothaches. Although certain over-the-counter meds such as ibuprofen are usually considered first line treatment options, it seems to be quite common for dentists to prescribe Tramadol in and of itself, or in combination with something like ibuprofen for serious tooth pain. You may also want to talk with your doctor or dentist about using an antibiotic (e.g. clove essential oil) to help fight the infection as well. I hope this helps!

My tooth ache is getting worse. I had a Diclogem tablet, still did not help. Please advise. ## Hi, Connie! Sorry about the toothache. Have you contacted your dentist? Most toothaches are caused by some type of damage or decay of the tooth and if it's a deep, very painful ache, then it's most likely infected and that's going to require an antibiotic, as well as getting the problem corrected. It isn't going to clear up on its own and trying to take a medication for the pain, without seeing your dentist isn't going to help a lot, because the pain will just keep returning. Dental infections have the potential to be very dangerous, if left untreated, because they can be directly linked to heart disease and heart valve infections, so it isn't a risk that's worth ta...

Was using for very bad migraines, my pa no longer prescribes them to me, I really need them. I'm not addicted, I only take them when needed, so what should I do? I also use them for bad toothaches. ## Hi Shandra, Sorry to hear about your situation with migraines. Seeing as you're no longer being prescribed hydrocodone, my advice would be to try out some other alternatives. According to Dr. Oz, ginger tea, peppermint oil, and capsaicin cream (cayenne pepper) make for excellent migraine remedies. My research also yielded results for black cumin seed oil (nigella sativa) that you can simply apply on the back of your neck, over your eyes and at the hairline for relief. Nigella sativa also doubles as a toothache remedy. Though I'd also encourage you to try clove oil for that. The...

Nonprescription Ketoprofen is used to relieve minor aches and pain from headaches, menstrual periods, toothaches, the common cold, muscle aches, and backaches, and to REDUCE FEVER. Prescription strength Ketoprofen is of course much stronger and is more directed towards relieving pain, including menstrual pain. It works by stopping the body's production of a substance that causes pain, fever, and inflammation. Can I use this drug for tooth pain? ## ask ur doctor ## Have you discussed it with your dentist? While Hydrocodone with Acetaminophen, the active ingredients in Vicodin, is an effective narcotic pain reliever that is often given for toothaches, it is not going to help with whatever the problem is that is causing the toothache. It is just a temporary solution. Side effects may include: nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and constipation. Learn more: ## The dosage you have is one of the higher doses available, so I wouldn't doubt that it would help with the pain (as it is used to treat moderate to severe pain); but whether or not it is the best option for your situation is not something anyone online can answer. My in-law gave me this red capsule with TEVA and 3147 on it. Is it safe for me to take? Will it help my toothache? ## Hi Fay, The pill which you are describing is Cephalexin Monohydrate (500 mg); an antibiotic used to treat various types of infections (including toothaches). Learn More: Cephalexin Details I'd say it's safe to take as long as you're able to take a full prescribed amount of it in order to kill the infection. If you're only taking 1 pill, you may want to take some additional precautions to get rid of the infection indefinitely. One cheap but effective option is clove essential oil. It's an oil worth keeping in your medicine cabinet for future use and usually runs about $10-15 for a bottle that lasts for ages. I hope this helps!

I have a tooth ache really hurts and cannot take thd pain anymore all I have is hydrocodone apap can I take that to relive the pain. Please help ## Hello, Connie! How are you? I'm very sorry about the tooth ache. While this medication is often prescribed for toothaches, it will not help correct the underlying cause, such as a deep dental cary. So, you still need to see your dentist, as you may actually require an antibiotic, if an infection is present. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?
