I have oxycodone acetaminophen 5 325 from Nov.2012. Is it still usably effective? ## Hello, Dorcas! How are you? If it's in a bottle as dispensed by your pharmacy, then it expired and began to degrade one year after it was dispensed to you, due to the fact that those bottles expose them to heat, light and moisture. Thus, it would be best to dispose of it and see your doctor, if you require something for pain. The FDA lists this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## The one year expiration date on pharmacy issued drugs is required by law and has nothing to do with the actual shelf life of a drug. A 3.9 mill...

I have had several pain intensive surgeries followed by Dr. prescrptions of Vicodin & Percocet on various occasions in the past. Each time I would have surplus meds (with dispose of dates listed on container) leftover after pain subsided. My question is do these meds have a shelf life where they become ineffective or worse, toxic? ## No, these types of medications do not become toxic, but they will start to lose effectiveness past the expiration date. There's no precise time frame to give, because it depends on storage conditions, but the one year date from the pharmacy is the maximum time they can be sure they'll remain fully effective. acetaminophen / hydrocodone 500 mg / 5 mg, watson 349 shelf life? ## If they are still in the original factory sealed container, these tablets have a 3 year shelf life. However, once the seal on that container has been broken, the shelf life drops to one year, since they are then exposed to the elements that can cause degradation. This expiration date would include your receiving them in a bottle dispensed from your pharmacy. This is a generic for Vicodin, which is a narcotic pain reliever, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, constipation, dry mouth and drowsiness. Another note that needs to be added here is that as of 2013, the FDA has made a request that all manufacturers lower the amount of Acetaminophen in these combinat...

I have had these for a while and don't know if they will hurt me, help me or just be ineffective. ## Hello, Greg! How are you? These tablets contain 7.5mgs of Hydrocodone and 500mgs of Acetaminophen, this dosage is no longer being manufactured. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. If they are in a bottle as dispensed by your pharmacy, then they expire one year from the date they were dispensed, because those bottles expose them to the elements that cause degradation. They don't become harmful, but they do lose effective, so you should just dispose of them. Is there anything else I can help with? ## The DOD has done multiple studies on degradation ...

I have a pill with a V on one side and 2355 on the other and I want to know what the shelf life is? The contents of the pill are: Acetaminophen 325mg + Butalbital 50mg + Caffeine 40 mg. ## If it was dispensed to you in anything other than the original sealed factory container, the expiration is one year from the date you received, but it could also be lower, if it has been exposed to the elements that hasten degradation, such as heat, light, and moisture. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with?

what is the shelf life from date of purchase. ## U.S. prescription medications must have a mandatory expiration date of 1 year from the date the prescription is filled. After a year, they start to lose potency and can no longer be as effective, there are also a few medications that can turn into dangerous substances after they expire.
