Can you take this medication if you have high sodium levels? ## Contraindications for Miralax indicate that you should check with your physician IF you have a low amount of Sodium in the blood OR a low amount of Potassium in the blood. It doesn't appear to state how this interaction affects the medication; but controversially, if one has a low amount of Potassium in the blood, their sodium tends to be high. This isn't always the case, but it would be good to check Potassium levels just to be sure. One way to help prevent this is to decrease your intake of sodium rich foods (mostly everything that is packaged or frozen) and increase your daily intake of fruits and vegetables; particularly dates, figs, and bananas that contain high amounts of Potassium. If 1 is a stool softener can i take 2 to make it a laxative? I have constipation from my opioids. ## Hello Shirley, Excellent question. Stool Softener, AKA Docusate Sodium, commonly comes in 50mg and 100mg soft gels. I too have OIC (Opioid-Induced Constipation). Docusate Sodium is but one part of my regimen for my personal amount of Opioids. I also take a capful of Miralax almost every day. I also take 4 Docusate Sodium Softgels of 100mg each for a total of 400mgs. I'll take the softgels every other day. Now for a specific answer to your question: 1 soft gel of Docusate Sodium is a stool softener, of course. 2 softgels is a doubling of the stool softener and are simply just more stool softener.
