What happened with OTC Drixoral? ## The tightening of the laws governing the distribution of Pseudoephedrine, which was one of the active ingredients in Drixoral, caused them to reformulate the product in an effort to keep it available on store shelves and not hidden behind the pharmacy counter. That said, it now contains Phenylephrine, which unfortunately has never been tested and proven to work as well as Pseudoephedrine. There are other products that still contain Pseudoephedrine available, but you must ask for them at the pharmacy counter and, in most cases, sign a form to purchase them There are also restrictions on the amounts you can purchase at one time. ## A Sam's Club pharamcist in Wichita said one could get a prescription equivalent identified as CPM/PSE, made by someone ...

Will We Ever Be Able To Purchase Drixoral Again It Is The Only Cold Medication That Works. I have tried almost everything else but nothing compares. ## Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the manufacturer is planning to release it again in the U.S. It was removed from the market here in 2010 and is now only available in Canada and other countries. Learn more Drixoral details here. Many companies have removed such products from the market due to the fact that having them behind the pharmacy counter depleted sales, so it was no longer worthwhile to continue manufacturing the product. Which other ones have you tried?

They are saying 21 days or less. Can you tell me how long you waited. Thanks. ## I bought Drixoral Cold and Sinus from a Canadian Pharmacy called TruMedCanada. They supply the original Canadian brand.... the pills are round in shape and green in color... I received my package in 5 business days. I have taken Drixoral for over 20 something years on a seasonal bases. It helped me get through the first part of my allergies until i get a shot of cortizon and i would take Drixoral along with the shot and have no problems. I purchased my last box in April 08 and now to find out no one can get them anymore. Please bring them back and let us make the decision as to what the side affects are and if it is worth dealing with. It is worth it to me, I am in hell right now. ## For years I have had seasonal relief with Drixoral and now its not available any more. Whose brilliant idea is that? I see I am not alone in having to put up with the symptoms that Claritin or Zyrtec can't resolve. ## The company discontinued the product, there have been several posts about this. I am not sure why ...

Drixoral Cold and Flu Acetaminophen + Dexbrompheniramine + Pseudoephedrine

Dexbrompheniramine/pseudoephedrine (trade name Drixoral) is a combination medication that contains the antihistamine dexbrompheniramine maleate and the decongestant pseudoephedrine sulfate. It was used to treat symptoms associated with allergies and colds such as itchy and watery eyes, runny nose, nasal and sinus congestion, and sneezing. Because it contains pseudoephedrine, its purchase in the United States was severely restricted by the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act of 2005 over fears...

I bought "drixoral" from Canada and it came in a box of 10 pills made by Schering-Plough with the name Disophrol Repetabs on it. I bought them for my husband and he says they work great. ## Did you order them from a pharmacy online or go right to Canada ## Hi Max, Based on my research, Schering-Plough Corporation was actually merged with Merck quite some time ago; I think back in 2009 as one article states. So I don't know if that could've been an older batch of Drixoral (Disophrol Repetabs) your husband received from Canada (prior to the Schering-Plough Merck merger), but none-the-less, it's good to hear that he's is doing well on it. How long has he been taking them for?

Great news! I have FINALLY found the substitute for Drixoral Cold & Allergy and wish someone had told me before I had to suffer with allergy symptoms for so long. It's a combination of one Mucinex DM tablet and one Aleve-D Sinus & Cold tablet; take one of each at the same time and within an hour you'll feel like a brand new person! Mucinex DM is an OTC expectorant and cough supressant and Aleve-D (an extended release medicine) can be found behind the counter (you have to ask for it and show ID), but I found both at Walmart. I know the name brands cost more, but do not bother buying substitutions because they simply will not work; since Drixoral has not been available, I already have tried soooooo many that didn't help at all. Good Luck and I hope this works as well f...

I have been looking for drixoral for ages now. I have been alive through canadian pharmacies. any has any idea when will we have drixoral back in stock it is january 2010. Else I will go back to TruMed Canada ## Drixoral will not be back in stock, it has been discontinued by the manufacturer, due to lack of sales. The places that still sell it are simply selling out their pre-existing stock. There have been quite a few posts about this, such as this one: ## (I'm posting in several places) Well, it's now March 2010, and I just got off the phone with Schering-Plough/Merck again. The lady I spoke with said that as of Feb. 15, they have no firm date for the return of Drixoral. She assured me that they were going to start making it again in the same formulation. She said their new ma...

I can't believe it! Every time I find a product that works for me it is discontinued. My allergies have eased up in later years but I have my times I NEED my Drixoral. Can someone else make a comparable product? Help ## I've been to CVS, Walgreen's, plus markets that have pharmacies, and no Drixoral. It is the best for allergies, and also excellent for a cold with heavy runny nose. This is terrible! ## You are not alone - There are many others reporting the same thing. The manufacturer has actually removed it from the market temporarily while they change manufacturing facilities. At least that's what they say. There are a number of other discussion about this on the site, and you may be able to find someone who has tried a different product with comparable results. Good ...

I had a stockpile of Drixoral because I live in South America and it is not (nor has it ever been) available here, but it finally ran out. I have tried many things which either do not help at all or not as well as Drixoral. However, I have recently tried Claritin-D 24 which seems to help me just as much as Drixoral did. However, there is one side-effect of this product which I cannot live with: 1 pill keeps me awake for 24 hours. Now I am going to try the Clalritin-D 12 to see if it will allow me to sleep. Hopefully it will only keep me awake for 12 hours. ## I tried the Claritin 24-hour formula without the Pseudoephedrine, but got no help watsoever. However, after using Claritin-D 12-hour for a week, I am happy to report that I have had good results. Like the 24-hour formula, it caused...

I wrote the company that makes Drixoral several months ago and they recommended Claritin D. It doesn't work nearly as well as Drixoral. I can't stand the sick feeling or bad allergy symptoms I have without Drixoral. ## I have had success with ClaratinD 12 hour(it has pseudophedrine sulfate) and Wal mart's Equate children's cough & cold DM elixer (it has Brompheniramine maleate) I could not find any product with dexbrompheniramine maleate in it but the brompheniramine maleate seams to work. I have been taking Drixorl Cold & Allergy for over 20 years. When I could no longer get it I was so sick I could not get out of bed most days. Do you think we are addicted to Drixoral? These symptoms sound like what drug addicts go through when they can't get a fix. My husb...

Looking for the original little green pill ## At this time, it is no longer being manufactured and sold in the U.S. by the manufacturer Schering-Plough. It's still available in Canada and a few other countries, but not anywhere in the U.S. So, you may be able to find a website to order it from. In case you want to look for an alternative medication, it contains the active ingredients Dexbrompheniramine and Pseudoephedrine, the latter of which is now only available from behind the counter at your pharmacy, so you'd have to ask them if they carry anything that contains both of them. It does not, however, require a prescription for purchase. Learn more Pseudoephedrine details here. Learn more Dexbrompheniramine details here. I have been disappointed to find that Drixoral has become almost impossible to get, as the company has stopped shipping it to pharmacies. My Doctor suggested I take this once easily obtainable allergy remedy years ago,and it is the ONLY thing that has proven effective in eliminating my symptoms. I called Shering Plough, Drixoral's manufacturer and was told that there will be a temporary cease in the manufacture of this drug for one year, while it's place of manufacture is being changed. ## Adrienne, So are you saying that Drixoral is not actually discontinued, just a temporary hold on manufacturing? If that's the case then I know that there will be a lot of happy people... ## I am extremely pleased that Drixoral is not being discontinued, I also have never found any other me...

Oblong yellow tablet made by drixoral for sinus. cannot find them. ## I was unable to find that exact pill, is there any more information you can give me? Any markings on the pill you give me will help me find the right pill. ## Hey all Drixoral users I have located a good deal on 12 hour drixoral sinus tabs. The green pill. Northwest pharmacy has them now for $12.99 per box of 10. Best price I can find anywhere. I just ordered 40 and pray they continue to have a supply. Am dam tired of paying $23/$24 per box. Regards, Bob. ## Hi Bob, thanks for your post. It also looks like they offer a generic alternative to this medication with all of the same active ingredients. Actually, I didn't think there was a generic available for this! There are a lot of people looking for this medication...

Are any of the meds with same formula as Drixoral available anywhere? (Desihist SA, Dexaphen SA, Dexophed, Disobrom, Disophrol, Dixaphedrine, Drexophed SR, Drixomed, Drixoral, Duomine) Is the effect of Brompheniramine Maleate the same as Dexbrompheniramine Maleate? If so perhaps, Lodrane D-24 will work. Has anyone tried it yet? I'm fighting nausea, popping ears & wheezing while waiting for my pharmacy to get some. I'm so relieved to find I am not alone in only finding relief with Drixoral. Over the years, especially recently, I have tried others, but none do the job. Anyone having success with a substitute? ## I have not found a subsitute for Drixoral that works either. Can any of you who have received their Drixoral from Canada share the time they waited for delivery, which pharmacy they used and the cost. This would be very helpful. Thanks. ## I ordered Drixoral from Canada Tuesday, July 8. I received it Monday, July 14. Works great. I just wish it was made by someone else other than Schering Plough. I don't want to support a company (in ANY way) that could be so callous and mean to it's own customers. ## It has to do with business practices, not being mean to their customers! Drixoral contains Pseudoephedrine, which is used to make Meth. To cut down on people buying it in unlimited quantities, there types of medication have been moved behind the counter at US pharmacies and the amount you can purchase at once has been limited. In order to ke...
