I am having difficulty finding this drug manufactured by Teva. I've transferred my prescription twice now only to have them tell me they can't get this drug. However, most times, when someone is prescribed this medication, they are told to drink a lot of water, or are given a lot of water by their care givers, which could explain the change in urine volume. In rare cases, this medication has caused kidney crystals, which could lead to kidney failure, so most people are told to take it with lot of water, to help prevent this from occurring. I have acyclovir with a date that is 2 years old. Is it still effective since it has not been opened? It is stored in a dark, dry cabinet. Thanks. ## It does not become dangerous, once expired, but it may have lost some efficacy, thus it would be best to see your doctor for a new prescription, if you need to take it. Such as a pharmacy name and prescription number? If so, you can go to the pharmacy and ask, though due to privacy issues they may not tell you. Though they will log it for future reference and that person will be listed in the drug database for giving away or selling prescription medications. Acyclovir is used to treat or prevent outbreaks of the herpes virus, including the simplex that causes cold sores. What medication can I take with valacyclovir to help with nausea and vomiting? ## Hello, Wendy! How are you? Are you on a short-term dosage to deal with an outbreak, or do you take it regularly as a preventative? For short-term use of higher doses, there likely isn't much that will help, though your doctor may be able to prescribe something for nausea. However, if you're taking it long-term for prevention, then you may do better switching to either Acyclovir or Famcyclovir to see if they cause you less issues. ## Thankyou for your response. What's the difference of both medication? ## Both Valaciclovir and Acivlovir are used to treat the same condtions, since both are antiviral medications, but the Acyclovir is believed to be less Cycotoxic. An friend gave me a bottle of acyclovir over two years old can it still be used for the same purpose at this time, or has it lost its affectiveness completely. With no symptons at this time I will often use this medicine unexpired of course just for its clealiness qualities in the vaginal area. ## It has probably not lost all of its effectiveness, completely, but if it is in a bottle that has been opened, such as one from a pharmacy and not a factory sealed bottle, then it does start to lose effectiveness, after a year. I had laser surgery on my face last Friday 6/12/15 I was prescribed to take acyclovir 3 days prior to treatment & then started doxy cycl 100 mg I also take 175 much of synthroid. I've personally used peppermint oil for problems like this and had great relief. For Nausea, I recommend diffusing peppermint oil or diluting it with coconut/olive oil and rubbing it on the neck and stomach. My doctor prescribed me valacyclovir.I took the full dose (2 pills in AM, 2 pills in PM of same day.) That was yesterday. My mouth sore is bigger!
