But you should be aware that taking D2 is NOT the recommended form of Vitamin D. Please take a look at the page on Vitamin D3 to see why that is preferred. I was prescribed Vitamin D2 1.25 mg to be taken once a week for five weeks after my D level was tested and came back at a level of 21. I took the first dose 5 days ago and for the past four days I have experienced intense muscle and bone pain, drowsiness, weakness, shortness of breath, burning sensation in my bladder. Your doctor is not doing you any favors prescribing you the prescription form of this vitamin. All other comments aside, this stuff is rediculously priced, and a less expensive over the counter alternative has to exist. ## The highest I've seen available over the counter is the 2,0000ius. You may be able to buy them and just take more than one, but I'd suggest asking your doctor first. You may also want to check a local vitamin shop, as they tend to have a larger selection than most other stores. I have to take the 2,000 and that's usually the only place I can find it around here.
