My Dad, who had a PhD in Chemistry, used to use a brownish solution on me whenever I contracted poison ivy. I don't know exactly what it was, but he mixed (and stored) it in a semi-clear poly bottle and he had marked it (as best I can recall) FeS04. In addition to the iron odor, it seemed to have an alcohol odor as well. Whatever it was it was exceptionally effective at drying up and eliminating the rash from poison ivy. It left a noticeable yellow-brown stain on the skin, but it was easily washed off after treatment. Don't know if this was an old "Chem lab" cure, a home remedy, or what. Sure would like to know though. Can anyone help? ## FeSO4 is just the chemical formula for Iron(II) Sulfate, it sounds like he may just have been mixing it with alcohol. Have you tried a...

Hi. I finished a 6 day cycle for poison ivy. The pi is drying up, however I now have hives all along my hip and an itchy rash across abdomen. Could this be a reaction from the meds? At first I thought it was more PI coming out-but looks more like hives and it had been almost 2 weeks since exposure. Thanks. ## Hives can be symptoms of an allergic reaction, as reported by the FDA. Other symptoms may include swollen glands, trouble breathing, and throat/facial swelling. It would be a good idea to inform your doctor to have this checked out, because if you are allergic, you will need to avoid this medication in the future, because such allergic reactions tend to worsen with repeated exposure, there are several NIH articles that you can read that discuss this. Is there anything else I can he...

My daughter was prescribed 4mg Methylprednisolone (6 day) for her poison ivy. She is on her third day and experiencing chest pain and neck pain. Are these symptoms cause for alarm? ## Hello, Laura! How is your daughter doing? The FDA classifies this medication as a steroid, so it can cause some crazy side effects. She may also experience headache, dry mouth, dizziness, acne and fluid retention. However, since she's having chest pain, it would be best to have things checked out by her doctor to be sure. Is there anything else I can help with?

I just wanted to let people know that I felt the vets did a poor job of believing the secondary symptoms of zonisamide. My dog, Ivy, has been having seizures for over a year now and we started with phenobarb, which she is still on, Zonisamide about eight months ago. The Zonisamide made a small difference in the primary seizures but she started having dry mouth and coughing almost immediately, then after several months, reddish patches on her left side and sores inside on the right side of her mouth (much less on the left side of her mouth). Three or four different vets tried to tell me she was just going to bleed out and I should put her down. I demanded that we start Lyrica and gradually take her off the Zonisamide. Lyrica is more expensive, but I have found that the improvement is wel...

How long should I wait to take suboxene I took 8 mg diluadid at 4am ## Hello, Ivy! How are you? You need to be in full withdrawal from your drug of choice, before you take Suboxone, otherwise the Naloxone in it may throw you into precipitated withdrawals. After that, you should follow your doctor's dosing instructions. This is a narcotic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi Ivy! I was on methadone and switched 2 suboxone. I had 2 wait until I was withdrawing b 4 I could take the suboxone. If u don't wait, as Dr. Verwon said," u will have worse withdrawals." So, make sure u r withdrawing, first. Everyone is different , but by...

I was prescribed hydroxyzine for itching with a bad case of poison ivy. I found that helped with my mild anxiety. Is there anything similar over the counter that I can purchase for the anxiety? Thanks! ## Hello, Hearher! How are you? Unfortunately no, there is nothing as potent available over the counter. Have you tried anything else to treat the anxiety? There are quite a few non-habit forming options that your doctor can prescribe, such as Prozac. The FDA classifies it as an SSRI antidepressant and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight loss. ## Hi. Have you tried essential oils for anxiety? I had it really bad but now I am in control with DoTERRA.
