Hi I have been on glumetza now for 2 weeks and was wondering if anyone has experienced what I am feeling. 3 days after starting this medication I began to have pain in my back on my right side by my kidney area. The pain has now come around to the front right below my ribcage. Ican only describe the pain as a constant dull ache kinda feeling like I was kicked in tge stomache. I have recently had and endoscope but didnt think it would be related to that. Any input would be great I have now scared myself reading about lactic acidosos when on this medication. I recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I tried glipizide, Metformin and extended release metformin, Glumetza, Onglyza all made me sick. They gave me headaches that bothers me most. Perhaps you should speak to your doctor about trying an insulin. Though insulin isn't the first choice for type 2, it can be used to treat it, you just have to check your blood sugar frequently and adjust your dose accordingly. Because, both are used to help with blood sugar, but aren't intended as weight loss medications. The stomach pain and gassy bloating may be side effects to these medications, but you should double check with your doctor. As to losing weight? Are you exercising and watching your diet?

What else have you tried? Controlling your diet and getting proper exercise, as approved by your doctor, are really the only safe ways to do so. it can be difficult for diabetics to lose weight, what type of foods do you usually eat?

This contains 500mgs of Metformin, a generic for Glucophage or in Canada under the brand name Glumetza. This is used by diabetics to help control high blood sugar.
