I have a problem with blockage in my ear. It started last week when I had the flu. My flu is sorted out now, but my left ear is still blocked. Is it ok if I use moxypen 500?

I had a grommet fitted abou 20 years ago and i am very often getting ear infection. I get penicillin and prednicort from the chemist but doesnt cure the problem for longer than 3 months. The area around the ear stays swollen and I had a scan done but shows nothing of interest. The space above my collarbone is also swollen from the permanent swelling which was also checked out with no concern report. I do have a perforated eardrum and mostly apply a Voltaren gel drenched plug which helps a lot. The voltaren plug is only put in the ear canal not direct to the eardrum. I tried this as I do not have medical aid and i am unemployed. At the moment i am using moxypen 500 and prednisone with sofradex eardrops with care not allowing it to filtrate the perforation. Should i repeat the moxypen 500 if my ear does not clear completely? currenly its throbbing and a wistling sound is audible.

Moxipen contains the active ingredient Amoxicillin, it is an antibiotic that is used to treat, or prevent, various types of bacterial infections.

Its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea.

However, it is not appropriate to use, unless you have a confirmed ear infection. Have you consulted a doctor?

Esther, it would be best to consult your doctor, again. It really sounds like you have something more going on, other than just an ear infection.

Do you have any other medical conditions? Do you take any other medications regularly?
