Hi Patsy,

I have had two injections of Prolia on in the middle of March 2013 and one in the middle of September 2013. I have had back pain both times with both injections with the worst pain during the second injection. The pain severly impared my quality of life this past year. I did everything I could to achieve some pain control during both injections including PT, acupunture, pain patch, sleeping on a heating pad and now epidurals. I have had back issues in the past but never have I had pain to this degree and until these two injections I was always able to control the pain with just PT and some short term rest. I have also had upper GI issues and was even hosptialized for them during which the doctors could not come up with a reason why my GI track was so distressed. I do have GERD but have never had to be hospitalized for it. Durring both injections I also had dental problems, a retreat of a root canal with the first injection and had to have two teeth pulled with the second injections. I was told with my latest bone scan that I had marked improvement. (The osteoporosis is only in my lower spine.) As of today I continue to have uncontrolled back pain and have started taking spinal epidurals. My third injection should be this month on the 14th but that will never happen. When I contacted the parmaceutacal company that produces Prolia I was told that they have had reports of back pain incurring after the six month mark but that they had not done any studies as to how much longer past that six month mark the pain continued. I can appreciate the improvement in my osteoporosis but I have given up a year of my life because of the back pain. I will never take this or any drug prescribed for osteoporosis ever again.
Good luck and I hope this helps.

I got a dose of Prolia in November of 2012. Shortly after I had flu-like symptoms (diarrhea, body aches , etc. Then I got severe jaw pain, facial pain and terrible ear aches . That lasted until February of 2014. I was tested and informed that I have osteonecrosis of my jaw due to the Prolia. I still get pain which is only relieved by prescription medication. I would never recommend Prolia to anyone!!!!! It has made the quality of my life hit rock bottom.... I still don't know what will happen next. It's scary!!!

I HAD THE PROLIA INJECTION 5 DAYS AGO AND HAVE HAD BACK PAIN OR SORE BACK FROM THE INJECTION. IF I HAD BEEN TOLD ABOUT THE SIDE EFFECTS. I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE INJECTION. NOW , I DO NOT KNOW IF THE PROLIA EVEN HELPS THE BONE LOSS. THE FDA SHOULD BE SUED. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. DOSE ANYONE KNOW HOW LONG THE PAIN LASTS ?

Patsy and Pepper~if you are still here, a new place for you that is lawyers and settlements. It's a lot like reporting to the FDA or Amgen. You fill out a short form and they decide. A definite win for both of you. I am so very sorry for what you have gone through with this poison Prolia. Pood

If you finish reading what Amgen writes, the Prolia stays in the body for a good 11 months that they are aware of. Mostly they like to discuss mice and monkeys, not we humans. The half life was 26 days I believe but it doesn't seem as if one gets better after the 26 days. I believe their clinical trials to be flawed as to the number of deaths from Prolia v. placebo due to the ages of some of the people involved in their clinical trial submitted to the FDA.

Pepper, after reading so many posts like yours makes me know I wouldn't use it if they paid me. Good luck to you.

I would imagine that you won't be told of all the adverse side effects from Prolia. Look it up on Best Pills Worst Pills and People's Pharmacy.

Patsy, I had one injection on April 4, 2015. Just during the last couple of weeks I have noticed that I can get up in the morning without having to pull on my pj bottoms for help pulling myself up from my back just killing me. That makes it about 13-1/2 months m/l. I'm still on pain meds from it too. 99.9% of it went away in the fifth month but other side effects lingered like insomnia, my back and my neck/jaw. You'll get better. I promise.

I'll never use it again after the complications it cost me! Trust me, I have plenty of pain from Osteoporosis and degeneration of the spine now, plus every disc in my neck and back are all herniated. I refuse to take pain pills more than once or twice a week, because I won't allow myself to become addicted to them. I worked in pharmacy for 24 years, trust me, I've seen the consequences. I choose not to go there. But I also choose to never take another Prolia injection either.

Actually reporting to AMGEN does more good than reporting to the FDA. The nurses at AMGEN really care about what Prolia is doing to us and they keep each of us in a documented file. This is the only way they will be able to change or delete this medication. The FDA seems useless to me…..just another bureaucratic agency.

Sheri~are you saying their is another person with your complete name? I know there was for mine but she's deceased and was apparently an author. When you are reporting to the FDA then, include your SSN, as that is unique to you and only you. Does that help? Pood

Sheri-if someone pops up again with your name, change yours to Sheri ? (whatever your last or middle name begins with). That will solve the problem and we will all know that you are still you. Hugs, Mama Bear Pood

AMGEN is required by law to report everything we report to them to the proper governmental agency which in the US is the FDA.

I had my first shot of Prolia 9-21-17, I've never been this sick with all over pain, bad headache, digestive problems, no energy, I'll never have another shot of it, but thanks for your comforting words, 'You will get better' I promise, thanks so much for that comment.

Hello, Lala! How are you?

They do warn that it can possibly cause some potential serous side effects, such as low blood calcium, serious infections, jaw bone problems, thigh bone fractures and more.

Have you had a bad experience with it?

Yes, the discomfort in the mouth is the worst. Now I have to make a decision regarding what to do with my osteoporosis. I am afraid of Prolia but doctors say that Prolia is the best medicine offered.

Hi Patsy, I have all the symptoms you have except the mouth so far, I had the shot March and September but in 2015. I was wondering how you are doing now, a year later?

It definitely caused me jawbone problems! Crushed jawbone, serious infection from it, and lost my implant because of all of it.
