Switching From Oxycontin To Oxycodone
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have been taking 10 mg of oxycontin at night, but I hate extended release medication so I am switching to 10 mg Oxycodone. I am concerned I will have withdrawals. If there’s only 10 mg of the medication in both formulas, the only difference should be that the instant release wear off faster, right?

Re: House Jr (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

I’m totally happy. It wasn’t his idea but I was happy he was into it. I hated the extended release. I never felt like it was enough, or it was too much. Plus, I don’t always need a steady flow of pain meds.

So far it has been great. It’s just really weird to me that a half of a 10 mg oxycodone works so much better than a 5 mg from a different manufacturer, but I always suspected Rite Aid got fake meds anyway.

You are not going to like the switch and I cannot believe your doctor is making the switch. You will end up taking much more and then you will risk losing pain meds all together. If anything your doctor is in the beginning stages of weaning you off oxy all together and in 3 months your prescriptions will end. ER tablets are meant for more long term use and the immediate release are used for short term. Good luck!

Lol yeah, but I have been going to pain management since 2017 so I have a doctor dealing with all that.
Thanks for your prompt reply.

Yes, exactly, the Oxycontin is just a time released formulation of Oxycodone, so there shouldn't be a huge difference from switching.

The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth

Are you on any other medications?
