Re: JAZZZY (# 120) Expand Referenced Message

Thank you so much for sharing your story! I think following our inner guidance is important, and I'm with you there. They have me on Metoprolol and Eliquis and I want to get off them. I've been in constant afib for over a month now whereas for 16 years I always self-converted. I want to deal with this naturally and know what I need to do.

Ask you doctor if you are a stroke risk. If not, I would then ask your doctor if 325 MG Bayer would be just effective addressing possible stroke risk while working as a blood thinner. Ask your doctor.

Cold Turkey with your cardiologist's consent. I have been off Eliquis for 8 months and doing fine. I take a 325 MG aspirin with zero bad effects. You thin the blood and this helps avoid possible strokes. Absolute must have your doctor's consent as everyone's heart issues are not the same. Good luck.

Re: Yesi (# 6) Expand Referenced Message

We understand how scary and sickening it is. From my understanding, the black box warning to not go off Eliquis is because its two related drugs have dangerous rebounds if you go off them. But I haven't found any actual research on Eliquis with this issue yet. So we can't risk going off, but we don't know for sure. They have us by the _ _ _ _ _!

I would like to be involved in the study. I have been on Eliquis for 2 weeks and developed stomach (gut) pains. Doctor Had me stop taking Eliquis for 48 hrs. Then Prescribed Xarelto, I am not taking the Xarelto after reading all the Horror Stories. I want to get back to taking aspirin 81mg daily.

Re: Marty (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

Yes me too. We also need to push for research into rebound hypercoagulability specifically in the case of stopping Eliquis.

Re: Skip (# 160) Expand Referenced Message

Thank you Skip. I am not putting down alcohol but if you have heart issues, especially AFIB an electrical problem. Then too much alcohol is not so good. Peaches are great but a gallon of peaches may not be so great.
Today is my wife's and mine 25th wedding anniversary which does indeed meet the qualifications of a "special occasion". I will enjoy a good fish dinner w/two beers and she will enjoy some wine. But that is it for any drinking until Thanksgiving and then Christmas. Skip your blood work also shows your liver function so my advice is to still enjoy but limit the amount. My wife and doctor calls it "common sense".

My best to you Skip and your brother.

Re: Skip (# 158) Expand Referenced Message

You are very much correct that there are no absolutes concerning heart issues. There are items that cause more probabilities for AFIB issues. Your brother found his and he has a pace maker. Good for him. But we are not talking about your brother. We are talking about you. As I have said over and over again; each case is different by definition. My situation was primariy caused by way too much stress Drinking of anything did not help me out and it is not helping you out either. Having excess weight and obviously a family history of heart problems; add drinking too much and you will more AFIB problem than someone who does not drink heavily. Your own words; not mine. My only suggestion is to be completely honest with your Cardiologist. Have a drink or two on "special occasions" but you defending a position that makes no sense. You are 72 and I am 63. My point is you need to get your own plan that works for you. Not your brother, not Santa Claus...you. Get yourself a plan; get your cardiologist's ok and enjoy life.

My best.

I have had 3 open heart surgeries, a 5X bypass, 12 cardio convertions and 7 ablations.

Find what works for you and stick to it.

John

Re: John (# 157) Expand Referenced Message

I have a younger brother; never drinks. Had afib, then a failed cardioversion which almost cost him his life (after his heart stopped at home the evening of). Finally had to have a pacemaker. Not saying you are wrongheaded. Just there's more to life than absolutes. On the advice of my DR, I am losing weight, using my CPAP religiously and limiting my alcohol consumption. RHR = 66-70 for two weeks. No return of symptoms. Reducing 5Mg of Eliquis to 2.5 per day w/1 81 Mg aspirin. Eventually (in two weeks, off) Withdrawing from Beta Blocker (never needed it b/4 for hypertension). After two days feeling better already. Thank You for your concern

Re: Skip (# 156) Expand Referenced Message

Skip, Atrial Flutter is AFIB just as a Chevy and a Buick is a GMC product. Like I said honesty is the best policy as you can only hurt yourself. AFIB, FLUTTER or any electrical heart issue does not mesh well with too much alcohol.

Your choice. I wish you nothing but the best.,

Re: Brett (# 88) Expand Referenced Message

Just an update.

Been off Eliquis and Sotalol for almost 1 year now. Only take 1 x 81mg Aspirin per day. Feel sooooo much better. The stroke Dr., even though I was misdiagnosed, still wants me to take them. Lol. Never again. 2 Cardiologists say I don't need it so I will stick with them. :)

,Skip, been there and done what you have described. It really gets down to exactly the amount of alcohol consumption. My cardiologist says I can enjoy two beers maximun on "special occations" and I am greatfull. However if you are pounding every night you will go into afib. As I have said many times; be honest with your cardiologist. That is the only way he/her can help you the best. If your cardio cath reveals no blockages then ask your cardiologist if you can limit alcohol and use 325 MG Bayer Aspirin. Heck of a lot cheaper than Eliquis. Good luck.

I am 72 male with active lifestyle. One day woke up with A-flutter. Spent 3 days in Heart Hospital. Drugs didn't help but the Cardioversion did wonders. Normal RHR for one month. No recurrences. My Dr. put me on Eliquis. At $455 a month, cash for the misery it causes, I am ready to offload it out of my life. Combined with the Beta Blocker (have not had high BP b/4) I feel like a walking zombie. All I want to do is sleep. I have to work for a living. Also had a heart cath while in the Hospital. NO--0% blockage in my arteries. My son is a surgeon. One of his cardiology buddies implores his patients to use CPAP if they have it and to Cut back on the alcohol. Going off the devil drugs I have been prescribed beginning slowly, tonight. Skip

EME You absolutely must follow your doctors advise on these two issues. All cases are different and as such must be dealt with accordingly. Please talk to you doctors about your concerns.

My best.

I have been taking Eliquis for ten days, 5mg twice daily. I have a DVT in my lower left leg. The doctor insists I keep taking 100 mg aspirin daily also as I have done for many years. I am 73 and very concerned about internal bleeding. Has anybody else taken both?

Is it ok to visit dentist while on Eliquis and aspirin? Also what about vaccinations, etc.?

Marty, To answer your concern; I would consult your Cardiologist. Pretty sure he/she would recommend 325 over 81. The 325 is an excellent blood thinner. I was Eliquis since it's inception. It helped me guard against clots which could lead to possible stroke. As my A-Fib to the most part has subsided; my Cardiologist put me on the Bayer 325 and I feel great. Best of luck.

Re: Twilight (# 140) Expand Referenced Message

I'm happy to say this Tues. 6/26/18, I will have been off of Eliquis for 4 weeks. I was on this drug for 7 months and I was in horrible pain in my hips and shoulders. No one would help (as usual) all they wanted to do was discuss hip surgery. I was ready for a wheel chair, so I started cutting the 5mg pill in half. I took half a pill twice a day for 3 weeks and then I just stopped completely 4 weeks ago. This past Monday, 6/18/18 my hip pain disappeared. It's Saturday and I'm 99% pain free. Mind you I no longer have Afib, but I did start taking 800mg of Natural Vitamin E. I wish you luck/success in finding your path to becoming Eliquis Free, as I believe this pill should be removed from the market, it's poison.
