Norco For My Pain Management
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Hi, I've been taking norco 10/325 for a couple of years now for fibromyalgia and chronic back pain, tendonitus and siatica. I'm prescribed 90/month. But my pain is not being managed. I have high tolerance I guess., but im afraid to ask my dr. if he will prescribe 120 a month because 3 a day is just not cutting it at all. but i dont want him to get mad at me. Is he even allowed to prescribe more than 90 a month? or what is something that maybe lasts longer than the norco does? It seems these only help my severe pain for a couple of hours then it starts back up again. my quality of life is really diminishing.

Sarah, Norco can be taken as often as every 4 hours, if the condition requires it. But, if you need pain management on a 24/7 basis, it is best to talk to your dr about Extended Release pain meds because they last 12 hours. Hyrdocodone without Acetaminophen does come in an Extended Release form, but it is very expensive because it is new. Zohydro is the name of the medication I'm referring to. There are a number of Extended Release pain meds on the market that are in generic form and cheaper. Also, if you're not seeing a pain management dr, it is possible that your dr will refer you to one.

Hello, Sarah! How are you?

If you want something that lasts longer, it might be best to speak to your doctor about trying a time released medication, such as Oxycontin. It lasts for 12 hours and is only taken twice a day.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

The time released formulations work much better for some people.

Does anyone else have any suggestions or advice?
