Weight Gain, Bloating.

I have been taking terbinafine for about 37 days now. I also had my gallbladder removed on April 8th of this year. My eating habits are relatively the same, yet I have gained 13 pounds in a month. I guess my question is did the medication make me gain weight or is it because I have no gall bladder? I also have extreme belly bloating now that I'm very unhappy about.

No, it hasn't been known to cause weight gain according to the FDA reports, but it has been known to cause the bloating. Other sid effects may include nausea, ear congestion, diarrhea and taste disturbance.

Are you on any other medications?

Verwon Thanks for replying. I am also taking effexor for mild depression and anxiety. Dr. Says effexor won't cause weight gain. I made sure I asked. I am experiencing nausea daily and sometimes dizziness or lightheadedness. This past week I about passed out could hardly stand and had fast labored breathing while outside fishing. I have never experienced that before or since. I had blood work done today so now I just wait and see what the liver result says.

I was wondering about weight gain with terbinafine as well. I've been on this pill 8 weeks now (have about 4-5weeks more) and have gained 7lbs. It may not sound like a lot to others but I have weighed between 120-125 for about 7years now. I workout 6 days a week, eat well. I'm a personal trainer, unofficial nutritionist and I track my food/activities. I am now at 131lbs and feel horrible. I've even cut calories to try and maintain but nothing is helping. The medication is the ONLY thing different in my life. So far it's disrupted my menstrual cycle and now weight gain.
I haven't read of either symptom on the side effects but I know for a fact there is nothing else that's different in my life or could be causing either.

I have been taking tablet to treat my fungal nail and it's been working since I switched to terbinafine Sandoz. I have experienced bloating earlier on and excessive weight gain. I have also missed my menstruation cycle last month, gained 4kgs for just over a month's despite excercise daily and maintaining the same eating habit. I haven't been this heavy for years and very disappointed with the result also worry if stopping the medication would help going back to my previous weight and normal mentruation cycle again or has it messed up some internal system foundamentally? I would recommend to avoid this particular medicine.
