I found a lump under my arm and my dr.prescribed the ST antibiotic. I just took the last one after taking 2 a day for a week. The lump hasnt changed at all. Im trying to understand why he would give me an antibiotic for a lump anyway. Idk. Hes the dr.right! ## Hello, Sunni! How are you? Well, only your doctor can give you a definitive answer, but it seems there's a good chance he may have thought it was some type of cyst. An antibiotic is often the first thing to try to get rid of surface cysts like that. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, some lumps under the arm are due to blocked sweat glands. I used to get them, when I used one particular brand of deodorant. Once I stopped using ...

Please be careful to take them as prescribed, do not miss any pills and to complete the full course of antibiotics to help avoid developing antibiotic resistance. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Yes! I was about to have surgery when they found out I carry MRSA so was prescribed this along with a strong antibiotic that goes in my nose where the MRSA is found.

My 21 year old daughter has been on this medication for 6 days. She developed a rash and in one day seems to cover her arms legs chest and face. She has quit taking medication and we are treated the rash. Any advice for relief. ## Hello, Anna! How are you and your daughter? Does the rash include hives and itching, or is it just a visible skin rash? A non-allergic rash can be a normal side effect of antibiotics and, if that's what it is, she should continue her course of treatment as it is nothing to worry about and will eventually go away on its own. However, if she has hives and itching, then she is possibly having an allergic reaction and should seek medical attention. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, dizziness, headache and diarrhea.

Ive been on sulfameth/trimethoprim for 3 days now 1pill every 12 hours until all gone.since taking the pills I have been urinating a lot 30mins apart im also taking metronidazole500MG both to treat a boil also bacteria infection. Is it normal to urinate this much. .no burning during urination all just clear like water. ## The Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is the most likely culprit, Sulfa by itself was used to treat urinary tract infections, before some many other antibiotics were available on the market, because it can kill bacteria and increase urinary output to help cleanse the kidneys and urinary tract. That said, this also means that it's very easy to get dehydrated while you're taking this medication, so unless its contraindicated for you medically, you may want to in...

I have been subscribed sulfameth trimethoprim 800 160 for a skin rash. Sulfar content scares me since I had a friend died taking sulfa with Steven Johnson Syndrome. I need more advice on this med. It was prescribed by a Nurse Practioner ## Please see Jo Ann's question below, have not received an answer. ## Hello, Jo Ann! How are you? This is an antibiotic that's used to treat infections and its normal side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. That syndrome is a possible risk associated with any antibiotic, but it is a very slight risk. There's actually a great chance of having an allergic reaction to this one, since about 3% of the population are allergic to it. If it's just a skin rash and not an actual infection, then this medicat...

Have been on a 7 day course of Trimethoprim for 5 days now for a bad UTI/ Kidney infection & it seems to be working ok as regards the pain in my stomach, sides & flank but I must admit that it does make me feel as though I have the flu coming on (eg) joint pain, headache, mixture of constipation & diarrhea, just generally yucky in general. My most worrying thing is that I have a history of psoriasis & was on the evil drug called Methotrexate for about 4 years which was awful & although I stopped taking Methotrexate in February 2015 I have just noticed that you should not take Trimethoprim if you take Methotrexate even though I stopped taking it 6 months ago I am a little worried because my already sore skin seems to be playing up more since I took Trimethoprim, or is...

He was given this drug to treat diverticulitis & hasn't experienced any other problems or side effects until now. Should this be something to be concerned about? ## Hello, Mary! How is your husband doing? This medication can cause a non-allergic skin rash as a side effect, so if there is no itching and hives, then there should be nothing to worry about. However, if he experiences hives, itching, or if it worsens, he should see his doctor. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and diarrhea. I want to know do what medication does because I never took it before. I start today. ## Hi Tena, The combination of sulfamethoxazole + trimethoprim is an antibiotic, prescribed to treat a variety of infections (including bacterial, fungal, and protozoal). One thing I also want to mention so you can be aware of it, is that many people here have reported serious side effects/allergic reactions such as skin rashes, joint pain, nausea, migraines, etc, while taking it. So god forbid, if you do experience similar symptoms (which don't happen to everyone) I'd just encourage you to contact your doctor immediately for further advice on what to do from there. I hope this helps answer your question! ## IS ANYONE HAVING TROUBLE URINATING AFTER BEING ON THIS MED? I'VE TAKEN IT FOR A GRO...

I was given Trimephoprim to be taken twice daily for 3 days for a severe uti, however I have developed the most dreadful water like diarrhoea , is this coincidence or is it like the medication that has caused this? ## Hello, Michelle! How are you? Diarrhea can be a normal side effect of most antibiotics, as listed by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache and non-allergic skin rash. The best thing to do is to make sure you take in enough liquids to avoid dehydration and it should pass, once your finish your course of treatment. Is there anything else I can help with?

I finish my course tomorrow can I drink on same day or wait a few days ## Hello, Nadine! How are you? It would be best to wait a few days. Mixing alcohol with prescription medications can cause the side effects to be more intense, so you may experience more severe nausea, dizziness and drowsiness than usual, as listed by the FDA. One drink may affect you as if you'd had 2 or 3 and so on. Is there anything else I can help with?
