Suboxone Allergy Or Side Effects?

I recently was switched from 40mg Opana er and Opana 10mg IR to Suboxone tablets due to upcoming CDC regulations. Since the switch my mouth and throat have become numb and tingle after each dose. I have difficulty swallowing, it takes a little more effort. This has progressively gotten worse through the month I have been on Suboxone. Furthermore my libido has become virtually non existent and i have not been able to climax since the medication switch. I am curious if the numbness, tingle, and difficulty swallowing are allergic reactions? I know loss of libido is common on some medications, but was wondering if this maybe be related to the Suboxone as well? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Bob,

Sorry to hear about your experience on Suboxone. From what I've researched, NIH.gov lists the following side effects as being "rare":

- loss in libido, desire, drive, or performance
- swelling of the face or throat
- difficulty with swallowing

Furthermore, swelling of the face, as well as swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, are ALSO reported to be allergic reactions.

Ref: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMHT0009353/?report=details#side_effects

I'm not sure how you might go about distinguishing between side effects and allergies, but either way, it doesn't sound like your body is responding too well to the Suboxone. Maybe your doctor can recommend another alternative to try out?

I hope this info helps!

Saw seen by PCP a few days after post. Doctor said wasnt an allergic reaction. It turn out they called them adverse effects. Was told to discontinue medication. After speaking with my PM doctor. Some of the effects worried him even though it was not an allergy. My medication was changed at PM doctors visit.
