Stopping Xarelto (Page 5)

Updated

I have been instructed to stop my 20mg a day after being on it for 6 months (2 PE's one in each lung at Xmas) and I have to say I am really worried and every little pain I think its come back. I have another 3 weeks to go until I got for a blood test to see if I am prone to clots however I am completely paranoid. Anyone else had the same feelings....as the meds have been my comfort blanket for so long.....

Re: I stopping (# 20) Expand Referenced Message

You are so right. Money, money, money! I was put on Xarelto for paroxysmal afib. Which is not persistent. I have done so much research, my head hurts!! You sure don't get info from docs. They need that extra buck on their paycheck also! Well my insurance just notified me they will no longer help pay for Xarelto, so I called my Dr. He said you need to get on one that they will support....Eliquis, Pradaxa, etc. They are all the same. So I have decided to go off all thinners and take aspirin and eat natural blood thinning foods and drink another beer! These are all natural thinners! I am 70 and not going to be around many more years so I am going to live my life my way....and keep researching. Good luck to you!

Hi. I have been on Xarelto for 3 months and presently I've been tasting blood in my mouth. What should I do? Is it safe to just stop taking it because I read somewhere that one would run a higher risk of getting a blood clot / stroke?

Re: Xarelto (# 82) Expand Referenced Message

If your tasting blood I think that's a red flag. I'm not medical person but I would think twice about taking another pill until talking with your Dr. It sounds like your bleeding somewhere. I stopped on my own because of side effects. Dr wasn't happy with me but it's my body and since this was the second time being on blood thinners and this time with zarelto the side effect were greater and with GI bleeding I decided enough was enough. After 24 hours I felt much better and I have no regrets stopping that nasty drug. I feel Drs are pushing and scaring us with zarelto. I take 325 coated aspirin daily instead. Every night I thank the Lord I made through another day with no problems. Good luck with what you decide to do.

Re: Xarelto (# 82) Expand Referenced Message

You know.......taking this terrible drug is supposed to lower your chance of getting a blood clot, but they tell you that stopping it could raise your risk of having one. Think about it. They tell you this because it's to their advantage. Money.....but I do think if you start the aspirin and eat healthy and take the natural blood thinning supplements that it will help. I did that for 18 years with afib and had no problem until these fancy unknown thinners came out.....I have been on Xarelto since June of this year. After these last two bottles, I am DONE! Too much pain, bleeding a lot, eyes are getting worse. No, I am not taking it anymore! Good luck to you and keep me posted. Hugs to you...

Re: Gra (# 77) Expand Referenced Message

Not sure if Xarelto dissolves blood clots or not, but I do know it is a nasty drug for a lot of people. I, for one, am going to quit it as soon as I am out....I am saving some for an emergency. I have heard that if I have an afib episode, I can take one and it will begin to work immediately. So here I go again, self medicating but I have had enough of the side effects. Good luck to your mom...The opinions I state on here are only my opinions and experience.

If you’re in a bleeding emergency, they should be able to give you a shot of Vitamin K. Depending on amount of bleeding or injury, Vitamin K does the trick.

Re: Annie (# 83) Expand Referenced Message

I would like to thank everyone for responding to my post and sharing their experience they had with reference to Xarelto, it's been one month now that I stop taking it,yes I'm scared because of some information that I read about coming of it,but I need to be honest ,every morning I crush to clove of garlic and consume it and I'm also drinking morning and I feel great, because I understand that garlic is a natural blood thinner, I'm not recommending this for anyone I'm just saying what I'm used in and how I feel, again thank you all and God bless.

Re: Buckeye 54 (# 19) Expand Referenced Message

Hi. I had been on Xarelto for 6 months for PE, unprovoked clots. Now I had a CT scan last week and told I could come off them (the clots had gone) crossing over to Aspirin (Cartia) coated, after three days of taking asprin with Xarelto I had the runs, dizziness. This morning without the Xarelto, I felt like crap, lightheadedness, felt I should have remained on the Xarelto. My husband told me to go and lie down, I had managed to do all my chores. But instead I’m here reading your views on this medication. My Haematologist didn’t tell me the blood clotting fig that it was ok to come off these meds. My GP said my CT scans were clear so to come off them cold turkey. I reminded him I couldn’t do that on these Xarelto. He looked it up and told me to do the above, take the aspirin too for three day. It’s very well going on these medications it getting off them is the problem. I’m hoping tomorrow will be a better day without dizziness, tinnitus, tightness in my chest similar to anxiety symptom. Anyone else having had change over side effects please tell me. As I’m so anxious. Get better soon everyone. Don’t be like me being a nervous wreck. I’m 77, no history of clots. I did hurt my right knee by a twisting on the spot, didn’t think anything of it until weeks later. My knee swelled up and a calf pain. Still didn’t think of having clots.

I’m off Xarelto now over a week and I’m in a really bad state of mind, as soon I was told to come off Xarelto after a negative CT scan I took 100mg Cartia Aspirin. I’m also on Avapro BP tablet, since I have been on these two together I'm having problems breathing if I walk up a short drive way. I'm breathing hard. If I do my housework I’m puffed, a few days before I was fine, I rang the Surgery and explained how I felt. I was told I would be ok in a few days time, I’m not, I’m feeling exhausted mentally, I have been told to take Ativan or Valium. Is the dizziness the result of taking Avapro? Before, I had no dizziness. Can taking the Aspirin and Avapro cause this breathing and a cough. At this moment I’m dizzy, headachy, and anxious. I’m seeing my GP this Friday and my blood test for clotting on the 15th of May. I would like to know from anyone here if they have a breathing issue? I’m breathing ok sitting down and walking inside the house, but any slight elevation and I’m breathing as if I need oxygen. That is why I went to see my GP 6 months ago and found I had many small clots and two massive ones in my lungs. and yet my CT scans came out negative last week.

Re: diana (# 34) Expand Referenced Message

Hi I was reading what you had to say about Xerelto and I was just on for 2 days and all I wanted to do was sleep I am 61 soon to be 62 and I couldn't handle the drug at all so I saw my Dr the following Monday and she told me not to take it anymore that I can go back on Warfarin which I had been using for almost 17 yrs and no side effects at all. I believe the new blood thinners are very dangerous there's no safety net with them and the side effects are bad, I will never ever let a Dr pressure me again to change. I feel better even though its only been three days without Xerelto I also feel that Dr's just want to get away from reading INR reports and the paper work so for all of the folks out there thinking about changing out don't do it..

Hi. I think all new blood thinners should be pulled and never used. They have way too many side effects and the cost is unreal. The old blood thinner is safer and it has a safety net when things go haywire within your own system, I have never ever had a side effect with Warfarin and I only take 4mgs a day. Sometimes the Dr tells me to skip a day or two when it's kinda high, then return to the 4mgs and recheck in 2 weeks. I also think the new blood thinners need to be rechecked because there have been two major legal cases; one on Xarelto and another one which was settled in court. If something works don't be pressured into making changes. All Dr's are sick and tired of reading lab reports so they put pressure on you to change. I will never ever be pressured again by no Dr to change what works for me. It's all a money game nowadays with Dr's and their ideas. I like it when the Dr's care about their clients and they listen to what you have to say, not just give you a number and hope you go away.

If u are really concerned go in and have lab test done don't wait if it was me I wouldn't put anything off I had two blood clots one after each operation in my leg and was told by my Dr that I would be on a thinner for-ever and I have tried the Xarelto and it gave me issues so I stopped cold turkey for two days and was placed back on my old thinner Warfarin no issues and I do lab either once a week or every 2 weeks depends on what my INR is this past week it was kinda high so this week is lab I need to know and when it gets to high I stop a day or two and restart. Like I said never put things off if u really want to know whats going on..

Re: barbie4758 (# 96) Expand Referenced Message

As far as the Xareltro I’m happy to say it was a very good decision to get off that nasty drug. I recently became extremely ill but it has nothing to do with Xareltro. I was throwing up and had severe diarrhea. After a couple trips to ER it was discovered I had a hernia which needed surgery. I was concerned thinking a blood clot would appear. I was fortunate that did not happen. I’m now post surgery 5 weeks and doing well until my brother died this week. This has nothing to do with Xareltro. I’m truly convinced that this drug is not good for anyone. All it is is a money maker for the pharmaceutical companies.
Thank you for asking how I’m doing after stopping Xareltro. I’m doing very good.

Re: Annie (# 98) Expand Referenced Message

Thank you so much for responding. I am very sorry to hear of your brothers passing. I just lost a sister 4 months ago. So hard to accept. You have helped me to decide what to do. I no longer want to live with this pain and everything else. I see my Dr in a couple weeks and hes going to help me or I find another. Hope you are healing well after your surgery... Again...thanks!! Re: Barbie (# 72) Expand Referenced Message

How are you now without thinners? Starting tomorrow morning they said i don't have to take them anymore. I was on 20mg of xarelto. I had a bunch of blood work done and it was all normal. They believe mine was from smoking ciggs which I no longer do.
