Should I Switch Off Of Effexor?

Updated

I have suffering from what my doctor says is a low grade depression. I physically have no engery to get up and do things i love to do. I decided on my own in the past year to try antidepressants. I started off with prozac but i was allergic. I switched to effexor which i am currently one. Starting dose was 37.5, i went up to 75 after a couple months which i didn't find to help more or less. While one the 75mg i started to sweat a lot while at work. I am a custodian, i do everything at my own pace. I am sweating profusely at work, sweat pouring from my face, underboobs, etc. I an overweight female, losing weight has been a difficult thing for me. My doctor brings up my weight everytime i see her. When i told her i was still having problems with Effexor (which is the only thing thats changed) she tells me that maybe i need to exercise more that way my body will get used to the physical activity i do at work. I want to switch, it is super inconvenient to have to wipe my face every 10 minutes at work. Anyone have any suggestions or similar issues?

The FDA does list sweating as being a very common side effect of this medication, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, mood changes, and weight changes.

Exercising more will not change that, if it is a medication side effect. However, there are other medications you can try to see if they might not cause you problematic side effects.

I understand that being overweight is a health concern, but it shouldn't be a reason to brush off such issues, or problems. Have you considered seeing a different doctor?

Another idea that might help in the meantime would be to buy a cooling towel, you wet them, wring them, snap them out and wrap them around your neck. They really do work. We've got about 5 of them scattered all over the house, especially since I'm dealing with hot flashes.
