Severe Upper Abdominal Pain / Endoscopy

Updated

In 2015 while pregnant with twins I started having severe pain mid chest right below my bra line. Being a high risk pregnancy I had weekly sonograms and I mentioned the pain to the doctor thinking it was normal due to my rapidly growing abdomen he had the tech take a look. My gallbladder was completely FULL of stones. I had no option for surgery due to being pregnant. Due to complete placenta previa I knew I was going to have to have a c-section. I had an attack one night and well I really hate hospitals but my dog was extremely in my face he would lick my feet and touch his nose to my forehead. My husband was deployed and I knew I was having an attack but I would get through it. My fur boy was relentless being extremely vocal and knowing I had 2 human beings in my body I went to the ER. The gallbladder attack was so severe it had caused me to start having contractions. They immediately hooked me up to a bunch of things meds to stop contractions and Morphine (even though I am allergic to opioids?). So, c-section in 2015 and I did not care for my OB and I did not even follow up with him. Fast fwd January 2017 I have been in pain for a week. My husband is again deployed and I am laying on my bathroom floor. I had to once again go to the ER. The doctor came in with a sono machine. Pancreatitis with a large stone lodged in it and my liver is barely functioning. They ERCP but ended up having to cut the stone from the duct, wait for my liver to resume functioning so that they can remove the gallbladder. Not only did it cost a lot of money, but to those that are not aware PLEASE do not ever leave a family member in a hospital alone. Yes, they treat you like poop (unless the doctor is in the room). Our daughter now works at the same hospital I was in as an M.A. while she’s obtaining her R.N. and the nurses give each other a heads up if a patient is alone, when they have visitors, etc. I then had to have a complete hysterectomy in March 2017. I have been dealing with severe abdominal pain, a distended abdomen that is hard and looks like I am 9 months pregnant. We are now in a different state so my primary care doctor ordered labs that no one has bothered to check. I am suffering from malabsorption and a corpse has more vitamins than I do. I vomit constantly and can no longer attempt to eat solid food. I am seeing a GI, the CT scan showed nothing. Colonoscopy 3 sissle polyps removed and moderate looping were found. 4 days ago I had an endoscopy showing redness and a lot of inflammation. When I woke up I felt like I was being stabbed in the upper abdomen. I don’t have a gallbladder but I have had severe pain like an attack since the endoscopy. He gave me Percocet (I cannot take that) today he called in Donnatal 16.2mg. I am retaining water to the point my feet are cracked and the pain is relentless. I have no idea what to do. Has anyone else had anything like this happen?

It sounds like your liver. Get the gb removed and watch what kind of fiber you eat. Keep away from flax-meal and other cheap fibers as they can put a burden on your system. My wife's gb had actually died and she was being poisoned although she went and saw three doctors and the er. They gave her pain meds and sent her home. I got her medical test reports and read several medical books. After a week of her being in severe pain i took her back to the er and demanded treatment with a new test and an mri. I told them i was not leaving and they can call the police now. They sent my wife in for tests and realized several mistakes had been made, my wife was near death and a dr was called in to perform the emergency operation. Later on, i was told by the doctor i had made the right decision to get her there. She is now in good health but it took about a year for her liver and kidneys to recover from the trauma.

I am not a Dr. but I would suggest a visit with a holistic Dr. or naturopath. They can help you heal the lining of your colon and deal with all the digestive issues you have so you can start absorbing nutrition again. A Dr. will only give you meds. You need nutrition for healing. Mes will just put a band-aid on this and you need more than a bandaid. Also, many meds rob your body of vitamins and minerals needed for healing.

With no disrespect intended...you aren’t hiding anything such as alcohol abuse, drug use, or anything harmful to your body? I am not a doctor either but have you seen a Cardiologist? It can cause edema and ascities. It is a stretch but if your heart is not pumping the proper blood flow then you can get organ failure. Possibly the reason for your pain? It’s worth a heart doc visit IMO.

Because of your multiple causes of pain I would suggest that your pancreatitis has not resolved. This would explain your distended abdomen plus fluid accumulation. Pancreatitis is notoriously difficult to treat and evaluate.

I had the most awful pains in my stomach. It was like having heavy contractions, but no lapse in the pain. You are so right about going to the ER alone. The doctor never examined me. She just told the nurse to take blood, urine and lab evaluations. For 5 hours the nurses did nothing but tell me to be quiet and look at me disdainfully as I threw up. Finally, 5 hours later, my son arrived and told the doctor that my blood and urine was still sitting in my room and that I was not drug seeking and he has never seen me in such pain. It turned out I had a blockage in my GI tract after they finally did the CT scan. I was then rushed into emergency surgery where they took 10 feet of my small intestines. After 6 days in the hospital, I was given only 20 pain pills when I left and they were crappy ones. My surgeon went on vacation the day before I left the hospital and he removed a quarter of my colon a year before. Arizona has a new pain pill law which is awful and my surgeon's father who assisted said I had to go to a pain specialist if I wanted more pain pills. I needed a week's worth. I was treated so badly at the ER and by my surgeon's father that I have been so depressed and I am still hurting 6 weeks later and can't lift more than 10 lbs and my stomach is still bruised and the scar is 10 inches long. I hope you find out what is wrong soon. It is very scary being in your position. Thank you for the info about going to the ER without a family member. You are so right about that and I wish I had known that when I went. I was on pain pills 6 years before and I guess the horrible nurses I had assumed I was drug seeking even though I can't remember the last time I went to the ER and I was prescribed 42 pain pills a year ago after my colon surgery. Those are the only pain pills I have been prescribed in over 3 years. I wish I could have seen the nurses' face after I was rushed into emergency surgery. I am lucky I am alive and I do thank God for that. I hope and pray that you find out what is wrong soon.

I think you should contact the surgeon that operated on you to remove the gallbladder and the stone from the pancreatic duct.
His knowledge of what he saw and did may give you the best solution to your present problem.

Re: Fishbone4u (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

Honestly,I think many doctors may have thought the same thing. Until they realize that I am severely allergic to opioid pain medication. They try to give me them and then have to counter with antihistamines and promethazine. I have had to have emergency intubation due to being given IV pain medication after telling medical staff I no,I am allergic to that. My liver shows no signs of fatty liver disease or cirosis (sp) I use to be able to enjoy a glass of wine, but I have not been able to drink any alcohol for a good 5 years. I am at a loss, and I feel that I am only as good to the doctors as the insurance I have.

I have been thinking the same thing. Or the possibility of SOD which most physicians will not entertain.

I am doing my best to do that, and fighting with my insurance company. I have to do b12 shots and take vitamin D50,000uL 1x weekly. Many of the things I have tried Tumeric, being one cause more discomfort. I attempt as many homeopathic treatments as I can.
