What is this tan & white capsule with G 357 on it? It was sold to me at my local pharmacy as a replacement for my usual purple capsule which is Potassium Chloride for control of blood pressure. ## Hello, Benny! How are you? It is manufactured by Glenmark Pharmaceuticals and they do list it as containing Potassium Chloride. It has just been manufactured by a different company than the other one was, which is normal for generic medications. Whichever one they have in stock, at any given time, depends on what company was offering the cheapest price, when they needed to restock their supply. The FDA warns that it is very harsh on the stomach, so it should be taken with food. Is there anything else I can help with?

My Doctor has changed me from potassium chloride 20MEQ SR MC to 2 potassium chloride ER 10MEQ ## Hello, Pamela! How are you? They are both the same, a potassium supplement in a time released formulation. The FDA warns that it can be very harsh on the stomach, so it should be taken with food. Did your doctor give any reason for the change? ## Yes my blood test showed my eGFR was 46 and 39 and my Creatinine is 1.39. I am going in for a kidney Renal with bladder test. Also Basic Metabolic Panel. Thank you for answering. Pamela

I have been on the BLUE capsule potassium cl xr 10 MEQ CER Watson for years...My trusted pharmacist INSISTS that the yellow oblong tablet he has filled in it's place is the same product...I am having problems breathing, wheezing, etc...and am concerned that this pill is NOT the same and I am in no position whatsoever to argue with him....I even had an asthma attack and that is highly unusual....I would so appreciate your advice....thank you... ## HI, Trisha! Sorry about the problems that you're having. Is it the yellow tablet with the K-Tab marking on it? It is the same dosage, but of course, when you switch from a capsule to a tablet, the inactive ingredients are different and you could be reacting to one of them. While the active ingredient level has to stay within a certain l...

I have a box of recently expired K-Lyte effervescent tablets individually wrapped. 25mEq elemental Potassium (975mg) as potassium citrate. Expired Nov 2015. Would they be safe to use since they are individually sealed and only 4 months past expiry? ## Hello, Lynda! How are you? They don't become dangerous, once expired, but they can lose some efficacy and may not work as well as they did, when new, to raise potassium levels. Unless your doctor approves of your still using them, it would be best to dispose of them and obtain a new supply. The U.S. FDA lists their typical side effect as being nausea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for the reply. I appreciate the information.

can the potassium work the same one or the other can they be change one for the other ## Hello, Linda! How are you? You should take the one prescribed by your doctor. The over the counter potassium gluconate actually only contains a fraction of elemental potassium, so they are not potent enough to alleviate a deficiency as fast as may need to be done. The FDA lists the typical side effect of Potassium as usually being stomach upset and pain, so it is best taken with food. Is there anything else I can help with?

I noticed on my husbands list of pills that one of them are Potassium Chloride he says he can sub the Salt Pills for the Potassium Chloride is this true ? Thank you for answering all of the questions that you do ## Hello, Cookie! How are you? No, they are not the same and one cannot sub for the other. If he's been instructed to take both, he should do so. These are both supplements used to correct deficiencies. The FDA lists the most common side effect as being nausea. Is there anything else I can help with?

Can potassium chloride micro tabs affect your libido? ## Hello, Larry! How are you? No, this supplement hasn't been known to do that. My mother is 79 and doctor said her potassium was a little low so he prescribed her potassium chloride 20meq tablets but now she complains of odiarrea so I cut them in half to where she's only taking half a pill a day now. Is this OK? ## Hello, Deb! How is your mom doing? No, these tablets should not be cut. Potassium can be very irritating to the stomach and GI tract, so they are coated to release slowly over time to help prevent that. It would be best to speak to her doctor about prescribing the lower dose tablets. Stomach pain is the most common side effect, as listed by the FDA. Is she on any other medications? ## Well my mother is better but for the couple of days that she was taking potassium she had diahrea so that's why I started cutting them in half and only giving half...

I take 1 KCl a day and since I started taking it I'd always have acid stomach or acid reflux. I had to take over the counter acid reducer. Can you tell me if I should stop taking this. I am taking many prescription medicines and there might be interactions. Thanks. ## Hello, Nitz! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. Did your pharmacy not warn you that it can do that and should be taken with food? That's usually a very typical warning given for these potassium tablets, since they are so potent. It may also cause gas and bloating, as listed by the FDA. What other medications do you take? If you can post back with them, I'll gladly check for interactions for you. ## Thanks Verwon for your reply. Honestly, I already stopped taking the potassium t...

Is this the same product? I was given Pot CL Micro. When refilling I receivedPota chloride. Are they both Potassium? Is one product better than the other? ## Hello, Linda! How are you? These are both potassium chloride, they were just manufactured by different pharmaceutical companies. This is classifies by the FDA as a supplement and it can cause stomach irritation, so it is best to take it with food. Is there anything else I can help with?

Why does my potassium chloride 10meq sa tab bottle say not to lie down for10 minutes after taking ? ## Hello, Mike! How are you? That's due to the possibility of it causing some acid reflux, that might lead to esophageal erosion. Potassium is very harsh on the stomach and will usually cause you to produce more stomach acid than usual and if you lay down within 10 minutes, it greatly increases the chances of reflux occurring. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Found the info I needed thanks

My cousin gave me this pill and said it will help me shed a couple of unwanted pounds for my final dress alteration. Is it safe to take? I don't know what it is. ## The pill you are describing is Potassium Chloride (10 meq) manufactured by Watson Labs. Potassium chloride is in the class of drugs called potassium supplements (minerals and electrolytes) that are used to prevent hypokalaemia. I'm not quite sure about any claims for weight loss effects, but it would safe to assume that just eating some fruit each day (bananas or dates) will provide you with your daily value of potassium and additionally aid in weight loss. NOTE: Orally supplementing with KCl can be toxic if in excess. You can click on the link below to view more information about this drug... I hope this helps! ## C...

I have been going to a weight loss Doctor for years now I'm not working and don't have the money. He gave me a prescription and vitamins plus a prescription for Potassium Chloride 20MEQ ER Tablets to protect my heart. My heart would skip beats without Potassium Cl. while on the weight loss pills. In order to save money going to the Doctor monthly for the meds. I have tried two different weight loss meds shown on the Doctor OZ show. He said these pills were save and had no side affect, however They both caused my heart to skip beats. I had a few potassium pills left and broke them in half (hard to swallow whole big pill before it disintegrated, very nasty) since the pill had a mark on it to break in half ,why not take half early and then the other half latter. Still hard to swallo...

My bp is 150/82. I had coronary artery bypass graft surgery on 17-Sep-2013. Presently I am taking following bp medicine : Betaloc 75mg 2 times daily; Amlodopine 5mg daily; Frusemide 20mg daily + Potassium chloride 600mg daily. Pls advise how can I lower my HBP from 150 to 120. ## Try taking 1500 mg of fish oil a day. Mainly Krill oil. Fish oil works wonders for the brain, joints, cholesterol, memory, and bones in general. But should help you BP as well as long as you take it everyday. Natural compared to chemical. Any day!

i am prescribed potassium chloride extended release tablets, 10 mEq K. the instructions say not to lie down for 30 minutes. why is this? ## Hello, Monica! How are you? The reason is because potassium tends to be very harsh, it usually increases stomach acid production and, if you lay down within half an hour, you may experience reflux which could cause damage to your esophagus. Is there anything else I can help with?

What is the medical use of potasium chloride ## Hello, Ed! How are you? Potassium is a vital nutrient in our bodies, we can't live without it, it helps with heart rhythm, blood pressure regulation and other important functions, thus too much or too little potassium can both be very dangerous conditions. How many milligrams is 20 meq? ## Hi Julee, According to nih.gov, 1500 mg is equivalent to 20 mEq (when referring to Potassium Chloride ER Tablets). I'm not sure which, if any, other medications are also measured in milliequivalents, so if you could please post back with a specific brand name or generic drug in mind, it may be easier to determine if the above information still applies to you or not. Is anyone else familiar with this type of measurement?
