My mother is 79 and doctor said her potassium was a little low so he prescribed her potassium chloride 20meq tablets but now she complains of odiarrea so I cut them in half to where she's only taking half a pill a day now. Is this OK?

No, these tablets should not be cut. Potassium can be very irritating to the stomach and GI tract, so they are coated to release slowly over time to help prevent that.

It would be best to speak to her doctor about prescribing the lower dose tablets.

Stomach pain is the most common side effect, as listed by the FDA.

Is she on any other medications?

Well my mother is better but for the couple of days that she was taking potassium she had diahrea so that's why I started cutting them in half and only giving half a day.
