I have been taking Plavix for 3 years or more and now my insurance company says that is not on their approved list. Is warfarin an acceptable substitute?

There is a way to check pt/inr without DRAWING blood. As a home health nurse, I have frequently checked a patient's PT/INR with a fingerstick using a Coagcheck machine that works much like a Glucometer that checks blood glucose levels using a single drop of blood from a fingerstick. Good luck.

My mother is currently taking plavix as she has had 3 mini strokes. However, when she takes plavix her stomach bleeds and she becomes severely constipated to where she needs an enema. Once she uses the enema fecal matter, mixed with dark blood emerges. I am trying to do research for alternative medicines that is like plavix without the same side effects. Seemingly, it does more harm than good but the docs seem adamant as to not take her off the plavix. Is there anyone out there taking alternative medicines? If so please respond with them. It would be a great help

I was just wondering if Plavix could replace Coumadin for my grandfather. He had a stroke almost 2 years ago following triple bypass. He did not recover completely and has had 3 strokes since. He is a very difficult stick and refused to have his PT/INR drawn. He had a mini stroke this past week and was hospitalized. The heart doctor restarted him on Coumadin. The levels were crazy for a week and when we took him to have his levels drawn they couldn't get any blood. He will refuse the medication if this continues to happen. My question is will Plavix work as a substitute?

i think it depends on what you are taking it for. Plavix
Is An Oral Antiplatelet Agent Used In Treatment Of Coronary Artery Disease, Peripheral Vascular Disease, And Cerebrovascular Disease. i've been on coumadin and actually have been happier on plavix none of the bi weekly blood works , i can eat what i want as i love green leafy vegtables. but i have heard that if someone has been on plavix a long time it is harder to control bleeding but i stuck my diet with the coumadin and did fairly well until i was stressed and it seemed to get out of control and with plavix i feel more free and not worried all the time how the coumadin level would be.

The only thing I know is that the doctor told my husband Plavix makes blood slippery so it can get into smaller places but it doesn't affect the clotting and Warfarin makes the blood not clot as fast
