Period Over Two Weeks Late..?
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I started my first pack at the end of january. After about three weeks of taking the pill, I missed quite a few and decided to throw that pack out and start over. I did have intercourse without protection after i'd missed some pills and now I am more than two weeks past due for my period! I've taken several pregnancy tests and all say negative, so I wanted to know if missing a period is normal after stopping this pill?

Thank you for your info. I got my period but its so light its hardly a real period. Had slight cramping like the previous months but now its obvious its my period this month.

I am currently on my 3rd pack of Lo Lestrin Fe. I started my pills in June and got my period 2 weeks later due to when I started them. Then I got it again 2 weeks later. So that was 2 cycles in July. Finished the 2nd pack last Saturday and still no period as of today Aug 20, 2011. Any one have any insight as to why this could be? Could I be pregnant?- My fiance and I did have a slight slip up but I have never missed a pill. Please help...

I understand the worry about not getting your period, however, it is not dangerous to skip it. That's why there are now contraceptive pills available that let a woman skip most of them and have only 3 menstrual cycles a year.

If you are taking them daily, without missing any tablets, then the chances of your getting pregnant are less than 1%.

However, if you are extremely concerned, then please speak to your doctor.

Is there anything else I can help with?

i am now finishing my 5th pack by this coming Thursday. First pack, no period, second pack, unscheduled bleeding. third and fourth pack, nothing from what i remember. i have yet to see if the 5th pack will be one with my period. I feel normal and fine no real side effects but not knowing if i'll get my period isnt a great feeling.

*well, not exactly the same boat. I haven't missed any pills, and I've tried to take them in a 15 minute window.

I am exactly in the same boat as you! I just finished my first pack of lo loestrin fe, and I had no period! I normally have light periods, so I called my ob gyn and she said that was a common side effect of lo loestrin fe. I'm 2 weeks into month 2, so I guess I just might not have periods on this pill? It is so weird!

I started this pill earlier this year. I have NOT had any period and no break through bleeding in months since starting this pill although I have had slight cramps. My moods are regulated and most symptoms of what they were thinking was pre-menopause have subsided (I'm 40). I love this pill! Never going off! lol Starting my fifth pack today.

I'm glad I found this forum. I just finished my second month of Lo Loestrin (started it after having an IUD removed) and I have been cramping but no period. I'm worried about pregnancy, but glad to hear that a least a few other women experienced the same thing. Last month I did have my period but maybe my body just was getting used to being back on pills.

Any updates from anyone?

I started end of february and didn't get my period after the first month, never missed a pill, and wondering if I will at the end of this 2nd month. I asked my Dr. about this and she said it was very normal not to even have a period on low dose pills. For me, only now (2 months into it) do I feel better. Initially had mood swings (highs and lows), few pounds of weight gain, oilier skin/more acne, but I feel like things are calming down now. I was on Yasmin before for 7+ years before this because I wanted a low dose pill (bc I've heard acne horror stories from folks who stopped Yasmin) so that when I want to conceive, the transition back to "normalcy" won't be as bad. At least that's my assumption. Hoping that the few extra pounds will shed as I get more regulated on lo loestrin!

I had cramping and normal day before my period signs but never bleeding either, my doctor said this was normal for new pills.

I also finished my first pack this past weekend on April 1 and did not get my period. I was on Loestrin fe a year ago and had light bleeding when i started the iron/brown pills so i expected the same from this pack. I have now started my second pack. I have no side effects whatsoever so i like this pill but i am weary about the fact that i might not get periods on it. i did research and found that over 30% of people who take this dont get their periods.I was reassured. i did have cramping while on the iron pills when my period was due but no spotting or anything. any one else experience this?

I am supposed to take my last pill of the pack and i havent missed any, but i havent gotten my period yet either. This is my first pack of the lo lo estrin fe but on my other pills my periods were very short and light so i think this may be normal. Any Update since you posted this?
(I switched because my old pills were giving me migranes and I am now on a 3 month trial)

You may want to have a doctor do a blood test to be certain you aren't pregnant, since some of the over the counter tests don't detect very early pregnancies, however, yes it is perfectly normal to experience fluctuations in your period when taking any type of hormonal contraceptive.

Some people may bleed more than usual or experience breakthrough bleeding, while others may skip their periods. Many women will even use their birth control tablets to deliberately skip their periods during times when having one may be inconvenient, such as for a special occasion like a wedding or long planned vacation.

Other common side effects can include: nausea, headache and weight gain.
