Oxycontin For Methadone Withdrawal
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I take 100mgs of methadone every day for the past 12 years. I ran out of methadone and can't go to my Dr for 2 days. Will OxyContin 20mg help with the methadone withdrawal? If anyone knows please let me know.

Everyone metabolizes different drugs in different ways. I switched over to actually win the past the legislation of general practitioners not being able to write pain meds anymore. All I could find was a Doctor Who would write me the Oxy 20mg and I was taking 260mg of methadone every day. I was kind of frayed at first two but the 20 mg of Oxycodone do you just phone for me and I never withdrew once. Hope that gives you a little bit of hope. I’m telling the truth so I hope it helps. I know how scary it can be thinking you’re gonna have to withdraw good luck man.

Also, you will not get sick. Methadone is very long lasting and to go just 2 days without it is a walk in the park basically, you probably don't even need the Oxy. Its psychosomatic behavior actually. You can go several days without Methadone without any withdrawal symptoms. Clonidine is good for that.

Yes, it will help get you through several days and probably even longer. Opiates are cross tolerant just like benzos, meaning for example if you run out of Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, Ativan will hold you and you will not go through withdrawal. I've been on MMT for over 25 years and I think I know what I'm talking about. Good Luck

Doctors replace what they think is one bad medicine for one that is even worse you're still hooked on one of the other the methadone is even worse if you take oxycontin is prescribed you would be okay methadone kills people, I do not think you would be safe to mix don't understand how you can be out of methadone before your doctor's appointment doctor's appointment should have been made in enough time in advance or you would have had enough methadone to last at least a couple days after your doctor's appointment my advice to you is to gradually get off of methadone and stay away from the opioid pain medicines all together. I was prescribed oxycontin 40 mg for about 15 years for a bad accident I was in was prescribed for chronic pain severe chronic pain the best thing I ever did what's eventually stop taking oxycontin the doctor tried to put me on methadone I read up on methadone is just as bad or even worse then oxycontin you need to gradually get off of it the methadone all together and just learn to live with the pain like I do your life will be so much better not having to depend on the methadone or the pain medication it is much better to hurt then to be having depend on any kind of medication like that I've known a lot of people to stop from taking methadone but also I've known people to stop from taking oxycontin but they've all abused it but methadone kills I'm surprised you're still alive

Hello John. No it will not. I have been on methadone for over 30 years, been there done that. You say you have 2 more days to go to see your Dr. Well, as you know, methadone is a long acting medication. You would be fine the first day, especially taking 100mgs. Without it, you might not feel your best, but won't withdraw. But the second day you may start to get sick. You could try to take it for the second day. Everyone is different. It may take the edge off of feeling sick and your pain, but does your Dr do drug urinalysis? Because if he does and you take the oxycontin it will show up, and if you signed a contract, that for sure would boot you out. And you definitely don't want that.

You never said if you take methadone for pain or are you on methadone maintenance? I know they do urine labs, but don't know how they handle failed results. Sorry about that. Meaning something in your urine that's not supposed to be there. But you know you might be okay.

I am not a Dr, but taking 100mgs a day is a high dose of methadone, and like I said, it's long acting and every one is different. For me, I would get sick because I don't get a high dose. When all the opiates crisis started with the Government, mine was cut back way back, but I do get a breakthrough med to take for my CRPS and severe rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis. With Chronic pain, 3 back surgeries, fusion deep compression, and lung disease, I only get 40mg. But was on 120mg, so that was a big cut. I suffer everyday. But good luck John.
