Out Of Breath

Updated

Hello,

I'm a 61yrs of age Scotsman and for the past 1.5yrs started getting severe breathlessness bouts. Especially, if I attempt exercise or go up any gradients such as steps or hills feeling like a goldfish out of water - so to speak. I had been taking Prednisolone in Thailand over the past ten years or so previous to my return to the UK. This steroid use because I had 3 nasal polyps’ removal operations in Thailand that where a complete and utter farce, lasting only 2 months tops on the first operation then less on both the latter ops. I started taking Prednisolone because I saw that they used these medications. Thus, before and after the ops to reduce my nasal polyps and to stop the secretion pouring down my nasal passages. Alas, not having done any groundwork on this drug from hell I never realized it would give me all sorts of side effects, the worst being respiratory problems. I took them on a daily basis, then whenever I tried to stop taking them all hell let loose with my breathing.

I had just been back in the UK for 3 days when my breathing became critical and I was admitted into a hospital. They found I had a virus on my heart that made it swell like a balloon and another prognosis was I had myocarditis. After my discharge, I was then again admitted into a hospital (3 months after having a very successful nasal polyps’ removal operation that at this brief moment in time, completely changed my quality of life) with breathing problems and my blood showed I had kidney problems, diabetes and strangely enough - my myocarditis had disappeared. I was a smoker up until 12 years ago and stopped immediately when I had a mini-stroke.

I was again given a new diagnosis that I was suffering from Churg Strauss Syndrome, now renamed 'Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (EGPA).'

Seemingly it's life threatening and I put all this crap down to the over use and abuse of Prednisolone. What I’m aiming for, is if anyone can give me any advice on how to help my breathing problems during any exercise to give me an easier time given that it's really making me depressed. Any advice would be highly appreciated albeit to see a certain specialist or medicines to help my ailments.

Thanking you in advance.
