Odor Of Eliminations While Taking Eliquis

I hate to be indelicate but I have noticed something strange since taking Eliquis. My urine and bowel movements smell different and I wondered if anyone else had noticed this. I would describe it as sort of a toasted oaty fragrance. I am not making this up or being weird. I am concerned and hope I am not along.

Hi Suz
FYI. Im taking Metamucil to loose weight at 81, about two weeks now seems to be working. A side effect was the smell from Apixaban in my sweat disappeared which I appreciated but was concerned why, so I would take Metamucil then about two hours latter take my medication, this seemed to work, as a slight smell came back.

Coumadin will do the same thing there's a awful smell with it it's your body is creating it through your pores start using body creams and heavy deodorants I don't know what else to tell you

My husband's urine has a chemical odor as well. He's going off eliquis now and hopefully the odor will go completely away. He had embollisms from surgery in the fall and had to be on it for only 5 months.

I’ve noticed a smell too from taking Eliquis. I smell fruity for a minute and then it switches to burnt smoke. It’s horrible.

I had a stroke in August this year. Been on Eliquis for 4 months. Started the old urine smell this past week 12/11/23, and I can’t stand it. I’ll be talking to my doctor about Magnesium. Thank you for sharing.

Same thing happened with my husband so I know it’s the Eliquis. I’m at my wits end trying to keep my home to not smell like a Porta John. Help anyone.

It was the Eliquis after all. Urine malodorous after 1 day of restarting. Might look into xarelto

I noticed my irine smelled bad right away but no other real side affects. But now, maybe 6 months along, I can't get away from a sour smell. Like others I thought it was my bedding, no. Then maybe my face cream was rancid, no. My hair? Nope. Now I realize it's like my urine but in my nose. Perhaps my pores are emitting it. Yuck, has anyone found a remedy other than getting off Eliquis?

Have stopped Eliquis for last 2 days for a procedure. Long time urine is gone. Smells almost like coffee. Never thought it was Eliquis but I think I have my answer. Will know definitely if it returns when I restart.

I've definitely noticed a different odd smell when I go to the bathroom in my urine and especially my stool ever since taking eliquis and I also have noticed I feel more tired than usual.

I have been off Xarelto for 3 weeks now and no odor at all. Prior to taking Xarelto, I was on Eliquis for 6 weeks and the urine odor was awful. Followed you around - hung in the air. Both of these drugs caused this. My blood clot is gone and my blood clotting evaluation is normal and thank heavens I am off these two terrible drugs. Five months of my life was enough for me. Many more side effects including swelling, sore joints and general malaise. My kidneys were even hurting.

My father was using aspirin for longtime without any smell, after he got stroke, and they take the clot out, his problem with high blood pressure gone, and his smell changed and become bad after that while he's using the aspirin after the stroke by two month, later they change to apixaban his smell continued, due to his problem with the sleep and muscle we give him some supplement, I notice after he use the Magnesium Tauratethe bad smell gone, I hope this can in help for you. This is the supplement:

Vitamin B-6 (as Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate) 25 mg 1,471%
Magnesium (from Magnesium Taurate) 400 mg 95%

My doctors switched me from Eliquis to Xarelto and there is the same odor, at times stronger than others. Quite an objectional odor I might say. Toward the end of 45 days on Eliquis I was experiencing definite kidney pain. Other really hard side effects were: swelling right below knees; continuous mucus drainage from sinuses; terrible cough; overall feeling of being sick and wading through mud. Xarelto's side effects are less and I am able to attend church and meetings and accomplish needed tasks until around 2:00 PM and I just do not have the strength to do much from then until bedtime. I do not sleep as well as normal and at times will have feelings of unreality. I am rarely animated which would be my norm. Anyway, will see doctors and get a scan this week and hope they will either remove the clot or take me off this class of drugs. PS: My clot is provoked and not something I am prone to.

My urine color was yellow - so no blood. Just a really awful odor. 4 days off Eliquis and started on Xarelto. Urine odor not as normal but much better. Joint pain is the same but congestion has lessened. I was definitely reacting to Eliquis in poor ways.
