For back pain, how often is it safe to use the 8mg. methylprednisolone dose pack? I am 65 y/o female in fairly good health except for spinal stenosis, chronic bronchitis and mild hypertension. I had a 2 epidurals 2 months ago and not time to have it repeated for 3 more months. ## You should only take it as directed by your doctor, it can be repeated, if they approve of your doing so, but you should always be careful to check with them. The FDA lists its typical side effect as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain, fluid retention and elevated blood pressure. Are you on any other medications?

yesterday the doctor prescribed methyiprednisolone 4mg for inflamation. The first night I took it I was very ill, severe headache centered in the jaw areas ( migraine sufferer) rushing sound in the ears and unable to sleep. I felt horrible. Is there a way to lessen or wean one off of this horrible drug? i can't do this!!! Geneva ## If you have only taken it for one day, I'm sure it's safe to quit. Consult with you doctor, though. I thinks I really depends on why you were prescribed this. As for me.... I will never take it again!! ## Those can be normal side effects of this medication, according to FDA reports. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, and fluid retention. However, they typically go away, shortly after you finish your course of treatment. And no, if you took...

In the last four months I've been prescribed dosepacks three times by two different doctors plus shots a few months before that. After reading about the dangers im scared but can't undo what is done. Am I in trouble here? ## Doubtful, usually such issues would be noticeable either while taking the dose pack, or shortly after finishing, according to the NIH. Have you experienced any fluid retention? Or sudden weight gain? The FDA lists those as possible warning signs of issues. Are you on any other medications?

I took a medrol dose pack last week and finished it Wednesday December 28th. On day 5 of the pack I began to experience numbness in hands and fingers and pain in my arms and elbows. I have an intense backache and my trunk is tender to the touch. I'm also retaining water in my abdomen. My prescribing doctor and pharmacist never heard of these side effects even though they are listed on the package insert. I'm concerned if this is permanent and don't know who to ask since the health care professionals I spoke to never heard of these side effects. I am extremely worried. ## Yes, these can be typical side effects of this medication, according to FDA reports. However, they should go away, now that you've finished your course of treatment, but it make take a couple of weeks. H...

Have you tried any antibiotics?

Three months ago I took the six-day course of methylprednisolone. I did fine, no side effects, but it only helped me for two weeks. It is now two months later and I only made it through day two of the six day regimen and I had horrible side effects so I had to stop. Now I'm considering going for the epidural injections in the spine. Am I going to have severe side effects from that? I'm scared. ## It is possible, all medications, regardless of how they are administered carry the risk of causing side effects. The FDA lists the typical ones for steroids as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, fluid retention, and weigh changes. What are you taking them to treat? ## Thank you for replying to my question. I really appreciate any and all input you can give me because it loo...

Can I still take methylprednisolone 4mg after it has been expired for 2 years? I use it for a lung disorder. ## Hello, Kim! How are you? This medication does not become dangerous, once expired, but it may have lost efficacy and not work as well as it did, when new. Thus, according to the FDA, it would be best to dispose of it and obtain a new supply from your doctor. Its typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight changes, nervousness, and insomnia. Is there anything else I can help with?

Will this medicine help a sunburn? I used a tanning ban and got really burned all over. I'm on day 5 using a cream prescribed with silver but was wondering if methylprednisolone oral 4 mg would help also? ## Don't take the oral... you'll be suffering side effects of the oral longer than you would of the sunburn.... ## Methylprednisolone will not do anything to alleviate sunburn, or the pain it causes. It is used to treat allergic reactions, inflammation and immune disorders. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, nervousness, and fluid retention. How did you end up getting burned to badly?

Hey guys! Hope everyone is doing well! I am a 31 year old male who just finished a 6 day methylprednisolone 4mg course yesterday for a possible pinched nerve (Had been having some tingling in my arm and chest paints). I previously had several tests done on my heart, and they all came back clear. I took all of the pills prescribed from 6 on the first day, to 1 on the last day, and only had 1 day during the trial period when I had high heart rate, heart racing, feeling of anxiety, shortness of breathe. The rest of the days, I felt decent. Today, my first day since ending the medication, I started experiencing these symptoms again (high heart rate, shortness of breathe, tight feeling in chest) . I have also started feeling my pulse more prominently in my temple area of my head, as well as ...

Back in September I was diagnosed with five perforated disc my doctor didn't gave me a prescription for a six-day course of Methylprednisolone. I took it and finish six-day course without any side effects whatsoever! It took all the pain away and sadly it only lasted for about two weeks after that the pain came back. I was told to wait and not take the steroid again for at least five or six months. So I was living on different pain meds for a long time and became allergic to most of the opioids so my doctor prescribed me the same six-day course of Methylprednisolone again. It is now December and I barely made it through the second day of the pill regimen. The side effects are too much for me to handle. I had nausea, severe heartburn, elevated heart rate, sleeplessness, panic attack ...

I know not to take any of the Ibuprofen NSAID family, those of the dangers of interaction with the steroid. I've been taking regular Tylenol but they only help me for an hour or two of the most. Is there anything stronger that anyone can recommend to help me with the pain? Thanks in advance. ## Beyond these over the counter medications, you would need to see your doctor to have something prescribed for you, since these are the only medications available without a prescription. Is this the only medication you're taking? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, mood swings, and insomnia.

I've done the 4mg pill regiment. I did fine. But only felt about 2weeks of relief. It's been two months ago, now I'm on day two of new six day pill regimen and it's causing me bad nausea this time around. Has anyone taking the shot? If so please give details? How many shots? Any side effects? How long dose it help for? How often can you take it? Thanks in advance! ## Hello, Ronnie! How are you? I am sorry about the problems you're experiencing. The shot and pills are about the same, so your period of relief will be very similar, so will the side effects, according to the NIH. You may also experience dizziness, insomnia, heart palpitations, and headache. As to how many shots, or how often, that really depends on what your doctor feels is safe for you. Are you on any o...

I'm on day 3 of a 6 day prescription of Methylpredisolone prescribed for acute bronchitis. My face is extremely flushed and I think it's the med. Is there any danger in stopping before any other symptoms should occur? I'm not interested in subscribing to the health newsletter but hope you will still address my issue. Thank you ## That can be a normal side effect of this medication, according to the FDA and yes, it could be dangerous to stop it, rather than tapering it, as prescribed. Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, nausea, mood swings, and nervousness. They are usually harmless and should go away a few days after you finish your course of treatment. Are you on any other medications?

I went to the doctor for a cold sore outbreak and was prescribed this 6 day steroid dose pack... This was at the first of the month... How long does the side effects last? ## You shouldn't take steroids for cold sores, it can actually make them worse, because they wake up the virus that causes them. As to the side effects, which the FDA lists as possibly also including nausea, acne, headache, insomnia and fluid retention, they shouldn't last more than a week, or so, after you fishing your course of treatment. What types of side effects are experiencing? ## I agree 100% with Verwon and hope you are doing well. I can't believe a doctor prescribed steroids for fever blisters, unbelievable.

I was prescribed a medication two months ago I have five perforated disc and after finishing the six-day course I started to feel relief right away but it only last for a couple of weeks now my pain is back and it's only been two months can I take the regimen again or is it too soon ? Somebody told me that I could only take it once or maybe twice per year because it could be dangerous but other people tell me that is not the case at all and I can take it again whenever is necessary ? ## Hello, Ronnie! How are you? In a way both are correct statements, it shouldn't be taken long-term, or more frequently, unless your doctor instructs you to do so, because there can be risks, according to the FDA. But you can take another round of it, if your doctor feels that it's necessary. T...

I have shoulder pain and am a diabetic patient. Can I take Predmet tablets for relief of pain? This pain started after catching a chikungunya fever. ## Hi Veena, sorry to hear about your illness and pain. Predmet contains the active ingredient Methylprednisolone, which is a corticosteroid indicated for the treatment of pain and inflammation (among other things). So yes, in the short term, it will probably help with pain relief. But keep in mind that this kind of drug is not meant to be taken over a long time or stopped abruptly, as some serious side effects may develop. So I would suggest working closely with your doctor while taking this medication, and then gradually lowering your dose until you are off it. Your doc should know this and I'm sure they will have you on an appropriat...

I was given a dose pack to determine if a condition I have is inflammatory arthritis or not. By day three of the mess, I was feeling better than I had in months! I could walk without a limp, and I just felt better. But now I'm on the last day and the pain is slowly creeping back in. Is that normal? Should I assume it isn't helping as much now because the dose is smaller? ## Unfortunately, the effects of such medications are usually temporary, so yes, that is normal, as the dosage reduces. However, it is good clue that you do have some condition causing inflammation. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, insomnia, acne, and nervousness. Is there anything else I can help with?
