I was prescribed the 4mg pack to help me with neck and shoulder pain. As soon as I finished the last pill, my blood pressure shot up to 170/100, my ears started ringing and whirring, my head started aching, and my appetite dropped. It is now 8 days since taking the meds, and I've been to the ER twice. I'm now on blood pressure meds to try and control the blood pressure problem. Has anyone else had these problems? How long can I anticipate having this before it finally subsides? I had perfect blood pressure before this mess. ## Hello, Sammie! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. Most steroids, including this one, can cause elevated heart rate and blood pressure, but they generally don't linger beyond 3 or 4 days after finishing the course ...

I just finished a medrol taper 3 days ago and my doctor gave me a whole new dose to taper. Is it safe to take it this close together? ## Hello, Kate! How are you? For the results, it is always a good idea to follow your doctor's instructions. The FDA warns that this medication may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, acne, and irritability. What condition is being treated?

I took a Methylprednisolone dose pack for 6 days for inflammation in my foot. 8 days after my last dose which was one pill the last day, I had blood work done for my routine physical. They called and want to do more blood work in 2 weeks because my white blood cell count was "slightly elevated". It was 11.3. Could the steroids have affected this? ## Hello, Gail! How are you? Yes, it could have, it could also have been caused if an infection had caused the inflammation, and sometimes due to the inflammation itself, according to the NIH. Other side effects of this medication, as listed by the NIH, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, and acne. It is routine to recheck in a few weeks, to be careful. If they are still elevated, it could mean you have some type...

I just took my first full day and have terrible pain and pressure behind my eyes. It hurts to keep them open and I had trouble sleeping. Cant feel this way and be able to go in to work. Is it safe to stop after day one? ## Hello, Angie! How are you feeling? I'm sorry about the headache and sleep issues. But no, it isn't safe to just abruptly stop this medication, it could cause some complications that may make you even more ill. It is best to follow the tapering schedule. Those can be normal side effects, as reported by the FDA, you may also experience dizziness, nausea, and acne. Have you consulted your doctor? They may have an idea on something that could help alleviate the side effects, so you can work comfortably.

Should I be taking 4mg of Medrol daily to help control my Arthritis? Been on this for 11 years now and health issues showing up. Torn achilles tendon right foot. Worn tendons and damaged ligaments left foot. Is it safe to be on Medrol this long? ## Hello, Oliver! How are you doing? I'm sorry about the health issues you've been experiencing. There are always risks to taking medications for a long period of time, that is why people are always advised to only continue something, as long as their doctor deems it safe for them to do so. Other long term effects, as reported by the FDA, may include weight gain, fluid retention, acne, and high blood pressure. Has your doctor tied these issues to your use of this medication? Or do they think there is some other cause? ## Thanks for the q...

Hi. I finished a 6 day cycle for poison ivy. The pi is drying up, however I now have hives all along my hip and an itchy rash across abdomen. Could this be a reaction from the meds? At first I thought it was more PI coming out-but looks more like hives and it had been almost 2 weeks since exposure. Thanks. ## Hives can be symptoms of an allergic reaction, as reported by the FDA. Other symptoms may include swollen glands, trouble breathing, and throat/facial swelling. It would be a good idea to inform your doctor to have this checked out, because if you are allergic, you will need to avoid this medication in the future, because such allergic reactions tend to worsen with repeated exposure, there are several NIH articles that you can read that discuss this. Is there anything else I can he...

However, right the day after i finished the whole thing, i started having a very bad headache all day long. Today is the 4th day and the headache continues. I have been taking two advil pills one in the morning and one in the afternoon 200mg and it keeps the headache away for about 6 hours. I dont know what i need to do and how long will this continue? Also is this also a common side affect of this pill especially since i am done with it 3-4 days ago. ## Hello, Choman! How are you? Yes, that can be a normal side effect of this medication, as listed by the FDA and it may take a week or so for things to improve. You may also experience acne, fluid retention an...

I am currently taking a 4mg Dospak 21's for an infection. I am having the red face side effect and am only on day 2 of the pack. My question is: how long will it take for the redness to subside? Is it ever permanent? ## Hello, Carol! How are you? Such side effects typically are not permanent, they usually go away within a week or so, of finishing your course of treatment. The FDA lists other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, insomnia, nervousness and acne. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was admitted in the hospital for 4 days, due to a severe reaction to poison ivy. Both of my legs were really swollen, red, painful, & hot to the touch. The doctors ran a complete CBC blood count & it was confirmed that my white blood count was high, my potassium was low, & that I also have an immune difficiency. They treated me with intravenous antibiotics & Methylprednisolone for 4 days. My swelling, redness, & pain did subside however, I am uncertain as to whether my progress was because of the antibiotics or Methylprednisolone. I was discharged after the fourth day & prior to being released, I did inform my doctor & nurses that my entire family at home was sick with the flu. I woke the very next morning with a bad cold that turned into the flu which also...

my name is kay can my husband take the methylprednisolone 4 mg can he take soma 350 mg with this he is in major pain and this is what they gave him plus 800 mg ibuprofen and tramadol help can't handle the crying. ## Hello, Kay! How is your husband doing? I didn't find any problems or interactions listed between the Methylprednisolone and Soma, however, taking Ibuprofen with the Methylprednisolone can increase his risk of stomach ulceration, according to the FDA and taking Soma with Tramadol may increase the amount of sedation he experiences, so he may experience a lot of dizziness and drowsiness. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was prescribed prednisone and an antibiotic for a sinus infection. The Methylprednisone came in the 6-day pack of 4 mg pills. However, my prescription said "1 tablet a day" so I assumed I should take 1 a day for 21 days instead of following the instructions inside the pack. Is this a normal dosage? ## No, usually it is still prescribed to be taken as instructed on the package, however, only your doctor can say definitively. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, insomnia, nervousness, fluid retention and acne. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I was prescribed metylprednisone for smell loss. After the first dose my remaining smell started to fade away. So I stopped taking them. Is this common? I will never know if I have inflam...

I'm on a 6 day 4mg pack of methylprednisolone. It was given to me for sciatic and nerve relief. I just finished day 2, still have horrible pain, trouble walking, using the bathroom, get random headaches and diarrhea. The only way I am semi-comfortable is when I am laying on the side that hurts. I haven't had pain in my back, only from my thigh to toes. I still feel the pain when I stand and sit. The only relief I get is when I keep the leg bent while laying on it. I'm desperate for any advice. I've been to the er 4 times, given every muscle relaxer pill, and a shot of morphine. I am scheduled for an mri after the 6 days are up, but freaked out because laying on my back is extremely painful. ## Hello, Hollie! How are you? This is not an analgesic, it is a steroid medicati...

Usually, it is started at 6 pills a day, then 5 the next day, then 4, then 3 and so on. The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, acne, irritability and fluid retention. Is there anything else I can help with?

My Dr prescribed this to me for hedaches I did not know they were steroids until after I took the 1 dose 2 pills for breakfast and 1 for lunch. I did not finish the fist day dose. I do not want to continue on them however I do not know how to take my self off them please help. ## Hi lolypop, Usually for drugs like this, the safest way to stop taking them is to tapper off under a doctor's supervision; if possible. However having only taken the medication for 1-6 days, I almost wonder if you'd even experience withdrawals at all...? None the less, if you are concerned I would definitely encourage you to talk with your doctor about setting up a tapering schedule to ensure that everything goes smoothly. My understanding is that some medications can be taken in fractions (actually cut...

I am taking the 6 dose pack for bursitis and am having side effects such as heart palpitations and shortness of breath, I keep having to take a deep breath in. is this normal or should I stop? I called primary and he said yes but orthopedic dr said this was normal side effect ## Hello, Jessie! How are you? The shortness of breath is concerning and if your primary told you to stop taking it, it would be best to trust their judgement. If you need a steroid to help reduce inflammation, there are others that you can try. The FDA lists the typical side effects as including symptoms, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, acne, palpitations and insomnia. Are you on any other medications?

I just finished the 6 day does pack yesterday, and I am feeling ill today, weak, some nausea, racing/pounding heart if I try to get up and do anything other than lie in bed. I was prescribed Methylprednisolone for a persistent upper respiratory infections that was unresponsive to a 10 day round of amoxicillan. Should I be feeling this poorly? ## Hello, Susan! How are you? Those can be normal side effects of this medication, as reported by the FDA and they may persist for a week, or so, then they should go away. Are you on any other medications?

is this type of steroid medication good for arthritis? ## Hello, Gray! How are you? It really depends on the person and the type/severity of the arthritis. Steroids can sometimes help with the inflammation that arthritis can cause, which in turn, can reduce the pain. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, acne and weight changes. Has this medication been prescribed for you?

I just stop taking Levofloxacin when can I start taking prednisone again? ## Hello, Fran! How are you? Did your doctor instruct you not to take them together? They tend to potentiate each other, but that usually just means the dosing has to be carefully adjusted and the person should be monitored during treatment. Unless instructed otherwise, when they were prescribed, you should be able to pick up with the Prednisone. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, acne and weight gain.

I was prescribed Medrol by a pulmonologist today. Instead of a dose pack I was prescribed 20 loose 4 mg tablets. The instructions say to take 4 tablets daily for 5 days. Can this be right?? In the past I've always been prescribed dose packs that decrease the dosage daily? Please advise. ## Hello, Kenzen! How are you? While dose packs are sometimes still prescribed, it's been found that short-term use of some steroids, doesn't require tapering. It depends on which one it is, the dosage and how long someone will be taking it. If you are concerned, please double check with your doctor or pharmacist, before taking them. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, acne and insomnia. Is there anything el...
