Hi, I’ve been on prednisone dose pack 6 day/4mg. I’m on day 5 and have one pill to take tonight and one tomorrow. Today however my blood pressure has been 130/83 to 151/86 which is abnormal for me and I feel high anxiety. Can I just not take the next two doses and be ok? I’m scared it is going to elevate my blood pressure more at this point. ## Those can be normal side effects, when taking a steroid like this, it would be best to finish your dosing protocol, unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. The FDA warns that you may also experience other side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, acne, and weight changes. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? ## Speaking from experience here having been on prednisone on several occasions I can assure you that you...

I was give this for a cough/cold. My symptoms are not that severe, so I was thinking of starting with 3 pills and tapering to 2 then 1. Is this dangerous? I just hate the way I feel on prednisone. ## Hello, Eileen! How are you? It would be best to take it as prescribed, starting with 6 tablets and tapering down to 1. This is not Prednisone, it is a steroid, but a different one. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia and acne. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I'm on a 6 day/4mg medril dosepak what can help with the insomnia? ## I only have 7 pills (missed) out of a 6 day 4mg pack of methylprednisolone. It was prescribed to me in the past for my back and was effective. Can I take these over a 2 or three day period s...

I was prescribed methylprednisolone yesterday and took day all 6 pills, now I have a horrible headache. I've had ulcer symptoms before and I take protonix daily, so I take as little excedrin as possible. The headache is horrible. I took an excedrin this morning, and now I want to stop taking the steroid dose pack all together, will that be ok? ## No, you should follow the instructions and taper, otherwise complication can arise that could cause even more serious health issues. Headaches can be a normal side effect of this medication, according to the FDA, along with nausea, dizziness, insomnia and acne. If it's okay with your doctor, you may want to skip Excedrin and try just taking regular Tylenol for the headaches. Is there anything else I can help with? ## How often can a Med...

How many "rounds" of methylprednisolone should cure itchy hives all over body. If rash doesn't respond to methylprednisolone should I continue taking? Have completed two packs, then went to another kind of antihistimine, and now given methylprednisolone again! How long are you supposed to take this medication for the rash to go away? ## Do you or your doctor have any idea of what's caused the rash? The reason I'm asking is because if it's something that you're repeatedly exposed to, then that could explain why it isn't going away and why the medication isn't helping. Usually, Methylprednisolone works with just one round of treatment. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, insomnia, irritability and acne. Have y...

Is it common to get an injection of steroids, for sinus problems in the morning and then given the 21 pack of reducing dosages over six days? ## Yes, a doctor may choose to go that route, depending on the severity of the condition being treated. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, fluid retention, acne, and weight gain. How are you doing? Did you experience any issues from taking it?

My 17 year old daughter was prescribed a 6 day Medrol pack and 6 day Z-pack for a sinus infection. On day 3 she got hit with significant depression that has gotten worse each day even though the dose is decreasing. Talked to the doctor today and he told her to stop taking it (she will only miss the very last day of 4 mg). Wondering how long it might take for her emotions to stabilize. ## Hello, Donna! How is she doing? It may take a week, or so, before the side effects fully go away. Others, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include acne, headache and insomnia. Has she shown any improvement, yet? ## My m.d. put me on Medrol pack.I did not sleep last night after only 1 day of this med.Second day after my dinner dose I started having anxiety and depression. The medrol pack was #4.I want t...

Hello. I was prescribed a Medrol pak (6 days 4mg) for a sinus infection. I felt great while taking it. Finished up on 8/12. Couple days later started getting awful hot flashes Few days later jittery in the mornings and loads of anxiety. Then started having trouble sleeping...tossed and turned all night with waves of hot flashes. I'm 6 months postpartum and nursing a baby. Do you think these symptoms are withdrawal from the Medrol? It's right at 3 weeks now. I've had sweaty hands, jitters, racing heart. When will it end? What will help it? ## Anyone have an idea on if this can still be withdrawal side effects? ## Hello, RacerD! How are you? Has there been any change? Congratulations on the baby! It can take a few weeks for all of the side effects to go away, according to repo...

I started taking the medication yesterday and took 6, today i take 5, then 4, and 3, etc so for 6 days total. I am taking this along with Augmentinj 875 mg, every 12 hours. I have had a horrible sinus/ ear infection for at least 3 months and haven't been able to taste food or smell anything. Body aches, headaches, horrible anxiety and terrible fatigue. Mid day yesterday I started feeling so much better, my sense of smell came back last night and I cried. I enjoyed dinner so much I could finally taste food. I've never taken this medication before and was afraid to google it. Upon looking I see many negative things. So far I have had a great experience with this steroid pack and wish I would have taken it sooner. I hope my symptoms don't return or i have withdrawals. I'm a...

It has been a terrible 4 weeks after taking the dose pack, and I am slowly getting back to my normal self (not there yet). I have now developed in tolerances to certain foods... itchy mouth, throat, etc. I now carry benedryl with me at all times, and have been prescribed an EpiPen. I've never even had pollen allergies in my entire life... now this? I'm afraid to eat!!! Has anyone else developed food intolerences/alergies after taking prednisone? I am still dealing with other side effects as well. ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? No, that isn't something that usually happens from taking this medication, according to the FDA, so that's very unusual. People sometimes discover they are allergic to the medication itself and may experience symptoms such as swollen throat, hives, a...

I started taking Methylprednisolone tablets USP 4 mg today and will finish my last pill Easter Sunday in the morning before Breakfast. My question is may i have a glass of Wine with my Easter dinner? Selma ## The reason you are usually warned not to mix most medications with alcohol is due to the fact that it can enhance the side effects, like the associated drowsiness, dizziness and nausea. Thus, drinking one glass of wine could affect you like you have drunk 2 and so on. However, it you are taking the last one in the morning and not planning your wine until dinner, the problems should be minimal, but you may still experience some, so I would just suggest to be prepared for them, in case they strike and, as an extra precaution, make sure you aren't going to be driving anywhere. Are...

I've taken a methylprednisolone dose pack early October, and I am still experiencing typical withdrawel symptoms, 2 1/2 months later.. low blood pressure, nausea, dizziness, muscle pain, heart palps, alergies, etc. I reacted very badly while taking it, having to stop it the fifth day. How much longer will this go on?? ## I had a similar situation. I stopped taking (weaned off) on December 19. Four weeks out and I'm still having side effects. ## Mayhem, how are you doing now? It's been almost 5 months after my last dose, and I am still dealing with problems, due to the dose pack. Nobody seems to know what is wrong, or how to fix it. I am really frustrated. My biggest problem is that I seem to be allergic to almost everything I eat, yet allergy tests show no allergies. I have ...

What kind of food is recommended to eat when taking this drug so I wont feel nauseous before breakfast? ## Usually, unless your doctor has instructed otherwise, it should be taken with a meal to help prevent that nausea, as in while you are eating. There are no specific foods listed, just that it should be taken with a meal, which usually means during a meal. The FDA lists its other typical side effects as possibly including dizziness, headache, acne, fluid retention, nervousness, insomnia, and weight changes. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change?

I started taking the 4mg 21 tablet pack incorrectly. Thought I was supposed to take all the pills each day at the same time with food. I am on day 4 tomorrow... Should I follow the instructions correctly for days 4, 5, and 6?...or call my doctor at this point? No real bad side effects...taking it for a poison sumac infection... I've done this before and the instructions always said 'all tablets taken at once each day'... The print on this package is so small I missed it... ## There shouldn't be anything to worry about here, unless your doctor has stated otherwise. Usually, they can be taken spaced throughout the day, or all at once. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, acne, fluid retention, and weight gain. Is there a...

My Dr prescribed this yesterday. I have taken a total of 10 pill=40mg. I am terribly sick. Throwing up, diarrhea, extreme headache, my body feels like it's on fire but after taking my temp it only reads 94.7. I feel horrible. Muscle weakness, blurry eyes. Kind of scared, not sure what I should do. ## Those can be side effects of this medication, according to FDA reports, since it is a steroid. You may also experience acne and fluid retention. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? If the symptoms get severe, you may need to see your doctor about trying a different medication. What condition is being treated? ## This was prescribed for lupus. It was suppose to help the inflammation of my joints. I stopped taking it after the second day. Horrible side effects for me. I am on a short course of medrol for a back issue, but I also suffer from chronic migraines. I know it is often also used to break a cycle of chronic migraines. On day 4 of medrol pack, and I've had severe migraine. Can this sometimes be a side effect. Instead of helping, causing migraine? ## I am a migraine sufferer for 30 years. Working on MOH, and relieving chronic migraines. Also, trying to find a Headache specialist is near impossible short of going to a Headache clinic like Mayo. ## Yes, this medication can cause headaches/migraines as a side effect, according to FDA reports. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, nervousness, and acne. Betsy, have you tried consulting a neurologist? They are usually the ones that treat such issues.

my dr priscibe me zempred 8 tab ,for sun burn please give some side effect for the prolong use ## Zempred contains the active ingredient Methylprednisolone, which is a CorticoSteroid. Methylprednisolone has some serious side effects if taken long-term, including weight loss, glaucoma, osteoporosis and psychosis, especially when used at high dosage. The most serious side effect occurs after the adrenal glands cease natural production of cortisol, which methylprednisolone will replace. Abrupt cessation of the drug after this occurs can result in a condition known as Addisonian crisis, which can be fatal. To prevent this, the drug is usually prescribed with a tapering dosage, including a pre-dosed "dose pack" detailing a specific number of pills to take at designated times over a s...

My prescription for methylprednisolone tablets have not been opened. I got it on 8/29/16. Is it ok to take? It says it expires on 03/18. ## What condition do you want to take it for? If it has not been opened and has not expired, it should be fine, but only a doctor can tell you when it would be appropriate to take it. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, palpitations, insomnia, weight changes, mood swings, and fluid retention. Are you on any other medications?
