Methadone: Getting Away From The Liquid Handcuffs (Top voted first)

Methadone...if you please

She'll sneak up on you,
Like a thief in the night.
She'll smother you, drown you
Til you have no more fight.
She'll bring a grown man
Down to his knees.
Methadone...if you please.

She'll ruin your life
With that first single dose.
She'll keep you forever
From those you hold close.
She'll bring a grown man
Down to his knees.
Methadone...if you please.

She'll rid you of pain
but f*** with your brain
so you don't even know
that YOU'VE GOT TO LET HER GO.
She'll bring a grown man
Down to his knees.
Methadone...if you please.

If ever the time was right, it's NOW
To throw down and run
believe it and how.
Don't look back, keep going
Go as far as you can
Get rid of this poison
so you can breathe freely again.

Therefore, as described throughout this whole verse
absolutely nothing could ever be worse
than this legalized, paralyzing bright red juice
dressed up, disguising a very tight noose.
Remember my friend these words you've read
you are able to read because you're not yet dead.

She'll bring a grown man
Down to his knees.
Methadone...if you please.

I must say, that was a very creative and well thought out poem on the dangers of Methadone (or liquid handcuffs) as you call it.

It honestly doesn't make a whole lot of sense as to why it is even prescribed in the first place, as all patients end up doing is replacing one addiction or dependence for another. Although I think the actual concept behind Methadone would've appeared to be a great idea had it not been involved with so many other side effects and addiction issues.

Hopefully futures generations will begin to start taking a new approach to pain management so the rest of humanity isn't at the mercy of Methadone for treating pain. Is Suboxone really any better though?

Re: David (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

In the last 20 + years I've dealt with chronic pain, I started out on Vicodin, then Xtra strength, then Ultram, pain pump, dorsal column stimulator, twice, then Duragesic patches, 150mg changed every 48 hrs. Instead of every 72, didn't make my pain go away completely, then 11yrs ago I changed Drs. My new one suggested Methadone, a 10 MG. pill 5× a day, WOW finally I got complete relief for the first time in 25 plus years, I now take 9 per.day and finally I can be pain free. So my opinion on METHADONE is try it if nothing else works.

Ive been prescribed Methadone for 13 years now for CHRONIC pain, previous to it i was on Fentanyl, oxycontin, pain pump, stimulaters, Norco, Vicodin, and Tramodol, I started taking 6 10mg pills per day and in 13 years my dose has increased by 3 pills, if you've never had chronic pain then you have no clue what people have to go through, im 62 and for the last 13 yrs its the best ive felt in years

Re: Rod2000 (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

I agree Rod, my first time on a methadone program 45 yrs ago, travelled to S.E. Asia. So when arrived back to so called reality I needed it soon after getting home from overseas. I was married, raised two children, moved out of the city, and had great life being in a family situation. Unfortunately 7 years ago I came off a horse, suffered neck issues, pinched nerves etc. The dr I was seeing had me on a cocktail of meds. He recommended ibuprofen which was totally useless. Also brought on severe abdominal pain. If taken properly methadone is a saviour. No one should have to put up with pain.

I've been taking Methadone for 14 years, in 14 years my dose was increased from 7 10mg pills to 9 pills. I take them because the Duragesic patches I was on was awful, my dose was 1 100mg patch and a 50mg patch which I had to remove every 48 hrs, instead of every 72 like normal people were doing. I told my Dr. that I wanted to get off of them which I did, I could write a book about ALL THE MEDS they tried. I had two dorsal column stimulators implanted in my back, they both quit working, then I had a pain pump installed in my back it too also quit working after a year and a half. I tried a different pain Dr. and he suggested methadone; my wife and I spoke at the same time, he's not a heroin addict, he said just give it a few weeks... that was 14yrs ago, the reason I take them is I have chronic pain in my left leg, I haven't had a problem with leg pain, I'm 63 years old and I feel great. I know that people take them or abuse them, I was offered 25.00 for one pill, my doctor and most doctors do random drug panels and if the panel shows no pain meds in their system, they drop the patient out of their system. Serves them right, there's addicts and there's pseudo addicts, I'm the pseudo addict, I take the meds for pain. The addict takes them because he likes the rush.

Kinda sounds like you enjoyed the methadone, I had a nurse one time tell me that if you get all the crap out of your system you won't hurt
anymore, hmm. Apparently she took the pain killer not for pain but for fun. I hurt first, then started on the meds.

My eldest daughter Marisa died from an accidental methadone overdose. 10/17/78 -11/04/05. I was on the poison 5+ yrs. Amazingly I got off after losing her. 6 months of hell. 180mg. But the grace of God kept me alive. I was then prescribed suboxone. It's saved my life. No more car wrecks from nodding out. I lost my soul. 5 yrs are black out. If you want to live and feel free, get off that s***. God bless. Rest in peace my precious Marisa.
