Lo Loestrin Fe Missed Period (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

I started Lo Loestrin Fe four months ago. I am currently in the first week of my fourth pack. The first month, I had brown spotting for about 5 days two weeks before my period came. My period during the first pack lasted around 7 days, like it usually does, and arrived on time. The second pack, I had brown spotting instead of my period. I took a pregnancy test and it came out negative. However, my period then came the second week of the third pack (which was really weird to me because my period always came during the last four pills of the pack). At the end of the third pack, I had three days of brown spotting when I was supposed to get my period. I am currently on the first week of the fourth pack, patiently waiting to see what will happen next. Can my diet and exercise have something to do with the changes? I'm worried this pill messed up my cycle. I have never missed a period and am NOT liking this. My doctor didn't say I would miss a period on this pill. What do you suppose is causing these problems and what should I do? Thank you!

I've been on LLF for like 5 months now and I'm 1 pill away from the end of the pack I'm on. I started lightly spotting in the middle of the pack. I missed the first pill due to the pharmacy not having it in stock but as soon as I got the pack I took the first pill and continued on. 5 days later I had intercourse, no condom, pulled out. Now it's time for my period and I'm stressed out because all I'm doing is spotting and that never happens. Should I be worried?

I'm very athletic and have been taking LLF. I'm on the second week of my second month on the pill. I had spotting when I first started the pill but now I don't, just occasional brown and mostly white discharge. I am active with my partner but have always used a condom. I am now 23 days late. I'm stressing out that I could be pregnant but I need advice! HELP

I have been taking lo loestrin for 6 months now and my periods have always been regular, I never spot they come right on time. I was on antibiotics 1 weeks before the the week I start the brown pills. I did have intercourse and we don't pull out or anything. I am now a week late. I have not spotted or have had any symptoms of starting. I took a pregnancy test And it was negative but I don't think (if I'm pregnant) I'm far along yet to be positive. Very nervous. Could I be pregnant and could it have been the antibiotics ?

Funny timing... I actually had the same exact thing happen to me this month! It was my first real period since starting on this pill. Of course, cramping during my period is normal for me, and really we're supposed to still be getting periods every month. The timing is quite coincidental. Perhaps there was a slight formula change? I personally wouldn't panic, and I'm sure your Gyno won't be surprised. Obviously if it goes on for more than a few days there might be some cause for concern. I say call your Gyno, but other than that, don't sweat it. :)

I am having a similar issue. I have been on LLF since September 2012. I did not have a period while on the pill until May 2014, and my gyno said that was normal and not to be concerned. Since May, I've had a period every month, but the past few months I've also had spotting/bleeding for another 4-5 days after my period. It's been very stressful. I am switching pills soon, but was wondering if anyone else didn't have a period on LLF but then suddenly got one again?

I'm no longer on LLF (new insurance doesn't cover it), but my last two months on it were the only two months in years that I had any bleeding while on this pill. I'm a bit shocked that it wasn't just me. Perhaps there was a formula or dosage change we weren't notified about.

I hope you are right about the dosage change. It has been very stressful. I feel like most of the stories on here from people are about how they had abnormal bleeding/periods their first few months while on the pill, but it's the opposite for us.

Did your period go back to normal once you started a new pill?

I have been on this new BC for about 4 months. I have had one period and just a little spotting every 40 days or so. I get the cramps and bloating and everything normal with getting my period but no period. My prior bc I was getting a period every 2 weeks so I am just confused and I feel like my body is wanting it to come and it not...Also has anyone felt like they were always hungry. Since I started this bc all I want to do is eat..I was not a big eater before but feel like I am never full anymore and just need more. I have a very sensitive stomach and cant have anything with a lot of estrogen and my body really wants none...I am one to get very sick from it...I am just not sure what to do

Hi I am a little worried because I haven't have my period.. I have been taking LL FE for almost 8 months, the first months I was taking them wrong so my doctor made me start all over again since July... the month of November I had to take Nyquil because I got sick.. I don't know if that could of affect my period because of the mix of medicine. I had intercourse twice in November and I took my pills every single day not at the same hour but what happened twice was that I took them at 11:50pm and another at 11:58pm (blue pills) I haven't finished the pack yet but I haven't got my period on November... my boyfriend and I always use protection. can somebody please tell me whats going on... is that normal????

Hi, Kate - I'm so sorry I never got back to you. I must have missed the notification I usually get in my e-mail! Since I started taking a generic (It's called Junel Fe or something, but I take the generic of even that, lol... it's called microgestin or something to that effect), my periods have gone somewhat back to normal. Basically I get my period every month, now, but the flow is probably half of what it used to be before I started taking birth control. That's actually pretty significant, and a good thing for me, because I used to have very heavy periods when I did have them. The cramping and pain have also decreased considerably, so I will probably keep taking this generic for as long as it suits me. I have noticed that I break out a little more often on it, but a lot of it is probably due to a lot of other factors. Other than that, I'm pretty happy. In a way, I'm glad I didn't have to go through the tumultuousness of dealing with whatever change happened with Lo Loestrin Fe... something definitely happened along the way.

My daughter hasn't had a cycle in almost 3 months. She is 14 but the gyno says this is normal with this type of pill. Have anyone else been told this?

I’ve been taking Lo Loestrin Fe for 3 months now since I had my iud removed. I’m getting my period on day 14 of the blue pills but never during during or near the brown pills. Is this normal? Because I’m not getting my period when I’m supposed to and I’m not taking any active pills for two full days, I’m concerned that I’m at a greater risk of getting pregnant around that time. I do have an appointment with my doctor next month but was curious to see if anyone else had a similar experience with this birth control pill?

I started taking Lo Loestrin Fe 6 months ago. It messed up my menstrual cycle. 1st month I got my period and the 2nd month it was lighter. 3rd month no period. 4th month I had my period. 5th to 6th month, no period at all. ABOVE all, the longer I took the pills the more I got sick - the 5th and 6th month, daily headaches/nausea, I was vomiting every week and had terrible terrible headaches. Diarrhea and vomiting. And my mood swings were terrible. I really felt that my body was rejecting it. April 2nd 2018 I was off Lo Loestrin Fe and no birth control pills for a month now (no intercourse at all) and I see the changes and I feel so much better. No more headaches and vomiting. And no period still. I am seeing my OB-GYNE tomorrow because of the no period issue which I don't like and will try to switch to a new brand/kind.

Hi Alyssa,

Oral contraceptives can mess with your hormones to the point of screwing up your cycle and changing days or weeks that you'd normal have your periods. My gf actually experienced a similar situation while she was on the pill and likewise was really concerned about it on several occasions. I hope this helps you feel more at ease, since you're not alone.

If it's something you just can't handle I would strongly recommend looking into natural alternatives to the pill. Clary Sage Essential Oil, while not a birth control pill, has the ability to stabilize your hormones and help get your cycle back on track. It's also very beneficial for relief from painful periods and cramping. That may be something you want to research and look into more. In my honest opinion, the two best oil brands are DoTerra and Youngliving, but your local health food store brand would suffice if you don't need extreme potency.

I do think diet and exercise play a significant role in the matter, but not quite as much direct impact as the prescription you're taking. Unfortunately, in any medical situation, a patient has to be their own best advocate. Doctors often prescribe medications according to their experience with how well something has worked for other patients and, when something goes wrong, they are often reluctant to attribute it to the medication.

I hope this info helps!

Hi, Brooke: While I figure you should buy a pregnancy test and use it, also give your gyn a call. They will probably tell you the same thing, that it's not at all abnormal to miss a period while on Lo Loestrin Fe. I think you should only worry if your pregnancy test comes out positive. My period came back last month and I'm by no means pregnant. Also, good for you for using condoms! Smart girl.

I've been taking Lo Loestrin Fe for about 6 months now and had never missed a period before. But I was supposed to get my period over the weekend and it never came. I've only had sex twice this month, used a condom both times, and take my pills at the same time every day. What could've gone wrong? Should I be worried that I'm pregnant?
